Note: This PSA Assumes you are using head-on Fortune although most beginner Fortune's usually stick with head-on first. This thread's purpose is to note common mistakes beginner Fortune players make. (Maybe one about Fortune misconceptions would be cool one day)

Other note: This doesn't mean you can't add common headless mistakes. But I have to ask that you please note which form.

I have seen beginner Fortunes do this constantly and frankly it's pissed me off enough to write this, *ahem*

STOP DOING CAT SLIDE AFTER REKKA

Seriously, stop. This is not safe and is -10 on block even PW can punish this. PW!!!! (It's a 2f punish window for pw but hey)

STOP DOING EL GATO AFTER REKKA

This isn't even a mixup it's not a blockstring and characters can jab you out. Super, call assist, chicken block, etc.

and most importantly,

AFTER YOUR REKKA HAS BEEN PUSHBLOCKED DON'T DO ANYTHING RASH LIKE CAT SLIDE OR EL GATO

This is because of the previous reasons but now they have absolute guard and el gato will likely whiff and slide will be the freest punish thanks to PBGC

IF YOUR NORMAL WAS PB'D GAUGE YOUR DISTANCE

This part makes me sad because some players will still autopilot rekka and that rekka whiffs and IT SENDS FORTUNE TO THE OPPONENT for an easy punish.

You can do many things when this [space where rekka will whiff] happens:

Nothing, L Fiber, a secret thing maybe I dunno about.

2LK 5MK IS NOT A BLOCKSTRING (In beta not in retail)

I dunno why but this can either benefit you or ruin you. @Mike_Z why? ;__; (I actually know why it's because of the 5MK buff 2LK nerf maybe but it also seems to have messed up the usual blockstring) edit: I didn't test varying distances but only up close and it works in retail but not beta
it was fixed

IF YOUR 5MK WAS PB'D BE VERY CAREFUL

This is because 5MK is ridiculously easy to PBGC and when you do 5HP or whatever after it you will eat a super or anything really.

Maybe do rekka after the first hit of 5MK oh and use L rekka in blockstrings whenever you feel you have to as it's +/-0 on block ON THE FIRST HIT ONLY the next reps are not safe or safe-ish but minus on block

I think that's all I remember. Maybe that helps.

Edit: pretty much all of these assume head-on fortune btw.

Dang, well for anyone wondering what to do now.

Your favorite normal 2MK works from 2LK on block just fine!

2MP works too also but I thought it'd be funnier if I mentioned the "useless" normal again.

As an added note this blockstring is harder (not as easy) to pbgc

I didn't know the matchup and all the stuff you said not to do was being done and I didn't know what to do about it at that time. this helps a lot

Bruh El Gato after Cat Scratch is life

in the corner headless with the head on the opponent to make it safe of course

Also, can I add another one?

Fortune has multiple air normals
Pls do something other than j.HP

Also learn tricky headless blockstrings/frame traps they are cool and look nice

Rekka > Slide staggered catches people a lot, but I do not recommend it regularly. But it does catch people off guard. In fact I do not recommend ever letting strings get past s.mk. I've found playing against good players that anything past like 3 hits is pretty easy to pbgc.

Son of a- I just noticed a typo I swear I hate contraction words they always screw me up.

Anyone can punish cat slide. I wrote can't by mistake, can't keyboards.

OK, but what if Im doing a blockstring and end it with the first hit of the rekka. Am I at least safe-ish?

I like cr.LK > st.HP > Scratch L (1 hit) for a blockstring myself

Edit: don't do this, Fortune hopefuls
it does not work anymore

You usually block after the L rekka but if you feel you can get a hard read you can do other things (go low, iad jLP, throw, other crazy things that are risky as heck at +/-0) but they all have their own risk. (Being +/-0 means you both recover at the same time)

I also changed the title I hope it's more clear what my goal is with this.

Fortune has the fastest normal in the game, so jabbing after l rekka can be good.

In general I don't think it's good to end blockstrings in L Rekka just because any normal into L rekka is very easy to PBGC. I get drill punished by sage for doing this all the time.

There are like 2 other characters that have equally fast normals tho. Her's is still really good, maybe even the best slp.

You sure that isn't you whiffing L rekka or are you doing a LMH string?

I don't think you can pbgc 2LK 2MK (but rekka will whiff here) unless you pb 2LK and even then pbing 2LK causes nearly everything but 2LK to 5HP to whiff and 2LK 5HP isn't a blockstring anymore. It's also why I wrote react to the pb 'cause you can just L fiber for free given you have the room dodge a reversal or block some supers in time.

The only time I see the pbgc happening is if you're against the corner so that you don't get pushed away but at that point I'm not really feeling doing blockstrings.

Edit: You also can't pbgc 2LK 5MK(1) unless you pb'd 2LK first. Same reasoning applies. (In retail of course since 2LK 5MK is no longer a blockstring in beta.)

Oh really
Well that's pretty dank news to me

Of course, not every confrontation has to be a blockstring

From a cr.LK (blocked):

>j.LK > Gato L
>throw
>another cr.LK
