Project Annie...In Motion!

I'd like to give @Skullmageddon a ridiculously large shout out for being incredibly awesome for not only starting the whole "Let's animate the characters we want!" movement with Annie (I'm excited to see Minette and Black Dahlia in current progress!) but for also contributing to Fukua having some new and pretty badass frames.

THANK YOU SKULLMAGEDDON!!!!
You forgot to thank Annie.

Gotta say those new Fukua animations look sexy as hell.
Is there a video or reference to see the animation changes? I can't seem to find them.

THANK YOU SKULLMAGEDDON!!!!

D'awwwww Oh hush now :P

You may not know who I am based @Skullmageddon, but I've lurked these forums for long enough to know who you are. And while she's certainly no Stanley, your valiant Annie efforts have swayed me to her noble cause. And so I'm dedicating my artistic talents to getting Annie in the game, starting with this first frame. Anyways, this one's for you (set as spoiler for size):

I'm looking forward to working with yall in the future. Only 14,999 frames to go fellas!

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... any progress?

I'm a little ashamed to admit.. I'm doing her whole shading and highlights process frame by frame, this process is my first time doing it so I'm just at the half way of the frames.. and between some other things that had kept me very busy (mainly just work) I might take just a little longer time to being able to post it here.

I want it to look like this for every frame, so far I've only completed 8 from 17 frames..

It's lookin' nice Karla :)

Take your time, and keep up the good work!

Thank you for understanding!
I will continue with this awesome project no stop, slowly but surely.. progress is being made.
I was just wondering one thing that peaked my interest; when you were working with the devs.. making those brand new frames for Fukua.. drawing the outlines of those frames, did you also make what I'm making right now?, I mean adding the palette frames ,shadows and highlights etc.. (I'm not sure what this step of making animation that works on the game is called).
I'm a little curious to know since you were so involved into adding content to the game.

To answer your question, yes. I illustrated the lined frames first. Then I handed the unfinished frames to Mike along with temporary color frames (the result is the same as how unfinished frames look in the Beta). This allowed him to implement the frames, show them to the rest of the team, then provide me with feedback on the quality of the frames. Once they were deemed good enough, I would then clean up the lined frames. I then created the color and shade frames that coincide with each lined frame.

Long story short, each frame consists of a line, color, and shade cel. I illustrated all three cels for each new frame that I created.

I imagined you did something along those lines, Sounds like a fun job!, I'm sure after finishing this particular loop of animation I will be at least more experienced in doing this, and we can continue to add more frames to Annie.

The line work between her fingers immediately stuck out to me as super rough. Just sayin'.

Mike, is that you? I thought you only cared about threads that talked about actual characters :P

But yeah, that's one of the things I would have to go back and cleanup if I ever felt like doing so. Also, I don't think I varied my lineweight enough. Most of the lines come across as having the same relative thickness, while most characters in SG tend to have pretty varied lines.

If this were, let's say, an actual attempt to bring Annie into the game then I would actually just start from scratch at this point. I'd work at a different scale, start by establishing a standard character sheet and model, analyze and develop concept work, and plan things out more thoroughly amongst other things. But of course that is not the case, so I won't worry about any of that stuff :)

Time to start from scratch.

The thread was on the News page sidebar, so I clicked on it. I can avoid doing so in the future. :^P

Damn. And here I was, thinking you had some genuine interest in this thread's state of affairs :)

I kid I kid. It's actually somewhat refreshing seeing you make a post in here. Most people just blindly say "good job!" or "that looks great," but it's nice to know that you usually don't bother commenting on something unless there's something actually worth pointing out...you know, like all the mistakes I make :P

You know, with a little bit of 'relatively' non-committal help from you and just a little bit of trust in my work ethic and determination, we could maybe still attempt to turn Annie (or any other preferred character) into the real deal *wink *wink

Either way, that $10 would end up in the Annie jar.

I'm going to be honest here, Annie needs more darker colors. I think that way she will fit in with the art style better

I think they fit her, she doesn't age and has a family friendly tv show; she's like a cartoon character coming to life.
It's kinda like Pee-Wee for us.

Well if Pee-Wee was real and hunted a demonic beast that re-spawnes every 7 years

The amount of work adding those extra frames in Fukua took was not even close to relatively non-committal for the number of frames it was, and we'd still need to work on overall frame count and motions.
Plus I'm sure Alex would not be happy unless it was a character he wasn't as invested in as Annie.
Like say Beatrix or Roxie or Hubrecht.
