The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

I think Sakurai randomly remembered how there was a tough event in Melee where you fought Dr. Mario with Peach who was in white, and was supposed to be "Nurse Peach"

The results of P:M's Turbo Contest are in!

For anyone who don't know about it, the P:M guys set up an official contest for players to try to make the best Turbo Mode combo without TAS.

naturally ganon is the winner

oh also
Sakurai said in his weekly column that there's a Wii U Smash Direct in the works and that it should be coming up soon, but no set date, obviously

So it's been 2 weeks since I asked everyone prior to launch what their top 10 newcomers were. Now that we've all presumably had some time with the game, once again I ask, what are your top 10 newcomers? Remember, there are only 15 newcomers, and Miis are counted as one entity.

For me it's:

10. Duck Hunt-An interesting character, but one that's quite difficult to use. I thought he'd be a perfect fit for me, but apparently not. I haven't actually played him much so maybe I just need to put more time into him.

9. Greninja-Definitely an interesting character to use, but a little too fast for me. I think I might be able to control him better in the Wii U version.

8. Dark Pit-Well, I liked Pit early on in Brawl, and Dark Pit is basically a slightly better Pit. So I guess I like him too.

7. Lucina-I've never liked Marth much but I really like how Lucina plays. It may make no sense but she feels like a Toon Link that sacrifices projectiles for slightly longer sword range. She just feels natural to me.

6. Villager-I'm just now realizing I haven't played Villager once since the demo. Nonetheless, he's still a fun character and I'm sure he'll see quite a bit of use from me once the Wii U version launches.

5. Robin-After a lot of time with Robin, I've unfortunately discovered she's quite the defensive character, AKA not really my playstyle at all. However, I haven't given up on her just yet, her magic is still pretty fun to use.

4. Pac-Man-In a not so surprising twist, Pac-Man is fun as hell to play. That Fire Hydrant, that key...glorious. I haven't actually got that much time to play around with him, but what I have played was super enjoyable. I can't believe how good of a job Sakurai did with this character, it's insane.

3. Megaman-I may not play him much, but I still love the hell out of the blue bomber and his stellar implementation into the game. Once the Wii U version comes out and I can play all I like, then I may play him more often in FFA's where I can just fuck around without really knowing what I'm doing. Tons of respect for anyone who can play him though.

2. Shulk-I'm really feeling it! Shulk is definitely interesting to play, and though I wasn't sure if I'd latch on to him at first, I'm very satisfied with his playstyle and stance changes. I'm so glad that one of the characters I wanted in the most will be a secondary!

1. Little Mac-The hypest fucking character ever reigns supreme. So happy he's finally in, he's a blast to play, and that his implementation is pretty much perfect. The only way he could be better is if his KO punch was a Star Punch.

Dark Pit, Palutena, Rosalina, (shockingly enough) Shulk and Mii Gunner. The others I'm okay with. Oh wait no, I'm terrible with Little Mac. I think Sakurai made his air game a little TOO horrible because beating Classic Mode on higher intensities is just torture simply due to the fact that the Hands knock him too far and his recovery options are too gimped to make it back. (I had to beat Classic on 3.0 in order to win with him)

Did you use counter at all?

Anyway I think my "new" top ten would be: Duck Hunt, Pac-Man, Lucina,Greninja, Wii Fit Trainer, Mii Fighter, Little Mac, Shulk, Robin, Palutena.

I've really gotten the hang of Shulk now and how you're supposed to play as him, I really enjoy playing as him.

Why is it so impossible to knock the smash ball out of the CPU's this game? A fully charged Shulk forward smash should definitely knock that thing out...

Maybe you can't really knock smash balls out....

Maybe he removed that feature...

If it's anything like Brawl, they're almost always going to stay in if they just got it, and becomes easier as time goes on.
What's most likely happening is you're just attacking to early.
It's irritating, but not unbeatable.

Also, someone pointed out we usually get specific game directs a month before their release.
Next Tuesday will be a month before release...

Or, we might have to wait until November because japan.

You can, by the way, knocking Smash Balls out of people is something you still can do.

Wii Fit Trainer i love, her playstlye is fun and she has all these little cool things and an amazing projectile. also her shouting out random fitness quotes is great.

little mac is fun to play cause of his ground game and can punish poeple super hard which i like.

Robin is also fun though i'm having trouble with her playstlye somtimes.

Koopalings are fun and i like playing wendy the more i try her.

Mii Gunner is my favorite of the mii's

right now those are the only new ones for me worth mentioning that i like.

As someone who main Ganon, after some testing and research, I've found that Palutena's playstyle is, basically, the same as Ganon's! They both have moves with tons of lag, but excel at punishing more trhan even Mac. Ganon can just punish using 1 or 2 moves wile Palutena needs to do a little more to get the same result.

Demon king and goddess of light, I've got quite the team.

My top ten's the same as the last time I posted it.
Even if I've found some newcomers not on the list more fun to play and some on the list unplayable, but that list is based more on what the characters represent and the ideas behind them and it treats Smash as a crossover first and a fighting game second.
At most, change my number 10 to Dark Pit because I can't play Lucina for shit, she's even worse than Marth somehow.

Yes. Doesn't always work the best though.
Or you could... I dunno, avoid their attacks? From what I've seen and experienced, you can easily dodge and or be out of the way of attacks entirely

10. Robin
Tactician swag is through the roof. Arcfire setups for days.

9. Female Robin
Not only do you have the sick fuckin' moveset but now of the opposite gender. This character has everything.

8. Kirito Robin
I hate Sword Art Online but goddamn this color is bitchin'.

7. Blue Robin
Too cool for school, too cool for any of you.

6. Pink Robin
Stylin' all over your balls in fuckin' pink. Get destroyed, pal.

5. Green Robin
Nature is golden, baby. That's just the Robin-way.

4. Ketchup Robin
Goes great with any meal, and any self-respecting Smash player.

3. Ness
"Ness isn't a newcome--"
FUCK YOU IT'S MY LIST.

2. Bowser Jr.
I've wanted this character since I was like 12, and now he's in. I'm obligated to like him. And I do.

1. Caramel Robin
Best color for best character. She just fits my play style, and I feel like I'm getting a little better with her every day. Plus Awakening is the shit.

All of Jigg's fabulous accessories are in my top 10. That bow is so fucking adorable.
EDIT: I'm well aware she has eight. The other two are both Jiggs. Jiggs for everyone.

Pic of the day.

Zael from The Last Story grabs some Superspicy Curry from Master Hand.

"No…! You mustn't let that curry lure you in…!!"

In the Wii U version, you can take photos of dream collaborations and funny situations with your trophies in the Photo Studio.

Except done a lot better.

I'm actually surprised Zael's in there as a trophy. I didn't think too highly of The Last Story and was under the impression that neither did anyone else.

I think it is them, actually (Mio and Mayu, specifically.)

Shit, Fatal Frame was the last game I expected to get trophies in Smash Bros, since it's an M-rated horror game.

By which I mean where's my fucking Eternal Darkness stage?

so uh

the amazon product description said a few things that probably shouldn't have

"Whether you’re creating stages on the GamePad, competing in challenges crafted by Master Hand and Crazy Hand, or outwitting your opponents in a brand new board game mode, there’s no doubt that the ultimate Smash Bros. game has arrived.”
you can go check it out yourself if you don't believe me (and also preorder the game while you're there, why don't you)

OK so if true this means the following:

* STAGE BUILDER IS BACK, THANK THE HEAVENS
* Board Game Mode=Smash World?
* Special Orders sounds kinda like Event Matches, which is weird since I'm pretty sure Event Matches was in with the other unused Announcer voices.

Now we just need confirmation on these and 8-Man Smash to be true and i'll officially cite this as the best smash Bros. ever (I already do, but then it would be official.)

I really hope the stage builder is better in Smash 4 than it was in Brawl. It was a nice feature, and I appreciate that it was there, but it was awful. I had no regrets deleting all of my custom stages in order to play P:M.

Speaking of Fatal Frame, can anyone find that drawing Kinuko(or was it someone else?) did of a Fatal Frame character in Smash? It's relatively prophetic right now.

Never mind, here it is:

Let's be real a Fatal Frame character would be awesome in Smash and it'd make for good advertising because Fatal Farme 5 is out in Japan.

I just appreciate the trophies though
