At this point I'm done being angry, I'm just curious as to the series of events that lead to this decision being passed.

@Flotilla should be able to fill you in once he finishes editing the first post.

Kinda off-topic, but I was unaware Nintendo had an official forum. How recent is it?
Pretty fucking up to date, actually. All of the subforums look active.

As a matter of fact, to add to what I said, Capcom's OT section has more posts (353k) than any other section after Street Fighter (440k), Resident Evil (449k), and Monster Hunter (379k). Playstation's OT section actually dwarfs any other subforum and makes up 10% of all threads (couldn't find post statistics, just a thread count that I had to deduce by counting the threads on a page and the number of pages). Nintendo's General Discussion section alone (nevermind online gaming or other gaming) beats all Wii U discussion and 3DS discussion COMBINED (meaning, Wii U+Wii U eShop+Wii U Virtual Console+amiibo+3DS+3DS eShop+3DS Virtual Shop = ~452,000 posts < General Discussion = 485,000 posts).

Edit: Putting this in comparrison to Skullgirls: OT all together has 56k (18k general, 30k gaming, 8k Anime), compared to 219k total posts, with OT having 0.5k total discussions compared to 3.4k total discusions. Meaning, roughly 25% of Skullheart discussions are in OT threads, which take up roughly 15% of threads. With all of Playstations games that they release, their OT makes it to 10% of threads (just shy of Skullheart's statistic). Imagine if you could only discuss Uncharted there how high their percentages would be (just one thread on the first page (of 12.5k pages of 30 threads a page), "The Random Thread", has 23k posts). I just eyeballed Nintendo, but I'm pretty sure all OT posts actually outnumber all other posts. Skullheart really isn't that bad.

On top of what has already been brought up, to whom is this a 'joke of a forum' to? Who's respect are you trying to earn by removing OT?

I remember Cynical said something about some scrubs on facebook who hosted tournaments there because they didn't want Skullheart to see them. If some little party of 10 mashers or non-fg players on Steam forums is emailing a bunch of complaints to Skullheart mods about how awful the forum is, I'm going to laugh when these changes fail to bring those people anywhere near here.

This is what I don't get. Let's pretend that this is the case -- that the staff wants Skullheart to be more accommodating and welcoming to outside communities such as the Steam community. Those people have their own forums, they've already established their own social hierarchies that are removed from others. They're not going to drop their friends and familiar surroundings for another site that does basically the same thing, official or not, just like how anybody from Skullheart who doesn't already frequent the Steam forums is suddenly going to have a change of heart because they altered a couple of things. I mean, the Steam forums are pretty official too, right? That's where you buy the game.

This restructuring is supposed to focus discussion on Skullgirls, whether it be casual or competitive. It is not dividing casual Skullgirls and competitive Skullgirls, it's dividing non-Skullgirls from Skullgirls.

First of all, I would like to thank you and all of the mods for takings steps forward to make changes and clean this place up. While I don't agree with some of the choices that are being made, I understand that you guys are all doing your best to do what you think is best for the community. Hopefully everything will work out and we can all be happy together. That being said...

Taking away things such as OT will in fact divide casual Skullgirls from competitive Skullgirls players. It may seem like you're just taking away things that aren't related to SG, but you have to remember that these non-SG related threads are where many of the casual players socialize and spend their time. If you take away their ability to talk about their shared interests, then they won't have anywhere to go unless they already actively post in the SG related threads. Many of them will likely be frustrated and simply stop showing up, which I don't think is what we want to have happen.

The people that are most frustrated by these changes are those that have developed friendships with other members over the last year or so, as they will no longer have a place to comfortably talk to one another. Sure, they could go to other sites and join forums that are related to their interests, but that's not what this is about. They joined this forum because of SG, but many have stayed and continued to use this forum because of the culture and friendships that this environment has fostered.

I believe that there are better solutions than simply removing the troublesome areas. I know you guys have talked about this a lot and explored various solutions, but I think you guys have grossly underestimated the importance of the OT threads.

I would love to read the constructive issues people have with the OT section, most people here have shared their feelings on why it would be bad to lock the section away, but we haven't really heard the other side. The only ones, so far, who are outright against the OT threads are Colossi and Raptor. (And I guess Isavulpes, but he's seems more against the posters than the section itself) The rest around here have shown to not entirely care if they stay locked or not. (If your reason is exactly the same as Raptor's, that's fine, it'd be nice if you at least mention it)

I have a suggestion, if the OT threads are considered to get unlocked, what if... there's some kind of top 3/5 promoted threads of the month/week, chosen by the Mods, located on its own box near the top of the main page? Which is only exclusive to the Skullgirls gameplay threads?

That way the both the SG threads and the OT threads can continue to be signaled on the activity log for regular forum members, while new members can easily focus on the promoted (more helpful/relevant) threads.* And hey, they were suggested by the mods (and maybe devs), so they must be good/helpful, right?

*Just in case: I am not saying that new account made members will not see the activity log, until they've posted enough to become regulars, that would be stupid and hard to program. I'm saying that the promoted thread box should be big (and shiny) enough for new members to immediately look at it.

I could not word my feelings on the subject better then you have even if I tried. Thank you for your insight. In any event, I hope some of these "restrictions" don't conflict to hard with the community (or more so then it already has) as I am beggining to make a number of friends on here I'd like to get a chance to socialize more with, but with a lot of the threads being discontinued for open discussion or replies, it makes it near impossible outside of specific threads or messeging each other (but not too many people have time for that either unfortunately, and we would more or less need to be following each other to keep each other posted on our progress on Skullheart.) Is there a way to impliment a "Friend List" option where you can add individuals through this site and know who among your friends are online or not without the need to follow every member you like (not that is a bad thing of course.)

Okay just confirmed.
The mods here are beyond stupid. Stay ass guys.

You didn't bother to read a single line in this thread, did you?

Going to make one post with all the arguments against this that I've seen and made that I think are compelling so no one against it can say they missed any part of the argument against taking OT away. And that'll be the last thing I post on the matter, cause if you read that and still say "take it away" then nothing I can say matters anyway.

Edit: Actually, nevermind. I forgot I tried to leave already. I'm done with this topic for real now.

I read like the first 6 pages, has the topic really changed in the past couple of pages? xD

Huh...I just read in the other thread that we can no longer discuss and speculate on movesets for charcters not in the game either. Yeah, this is going further than killing the off topic stuff. Speculation is a whole new avenue of fun for some people. Speculation is what's really driving my interest in Street Fighter 5; what music will be there, what they'll bring back, how Charlie's 3rd eye gem is going to affect his moves, is Q there, is this Bison's last stand, etc. It's engaging and interactive. I get some people unreasonably demand things of the creative team, but killing all discussion of this type seems narrow and just...wrong to me. How narrow are the topics going to be now? I haven't checked, but are the lore and world building type threads going to be axed too? If so, that's a flat out disservice to Alex Ahad's brilliant plotting.

Congratulations, your post is the 420th post on this thread! Click to claim your reward! #yoloswagnoscope360eryday

But no, real talk. It shouldn't be that difficult to understand where everyone is coming from in this argument. If you really don't want to read through the 419 comments before you, and who the hell would, then I suppose you could just wait for Zidiane to summarize everything for you. Or we could just pass a dooby and chill out for the holidays, cuz we all just wanna be friends.

You missed the part where admins went from 'This is a definitive change' to 'we're listening and might change it', which is pretty important if you ask me.

Also people in here are very emotional. Ya'll adorable and need an hug.

Damn. Well I ain't compilin' no list of arguments, don't got no time fo dat shit. You're on your own Ken, you can figure it out. Or not, whatever. I already wrote my wall of text, Imma just sit back for a while and see what happens.

Long story short:
This move was hasty and sudden, and got some people, mostly skullfans, pissed off.
It then turned in this stupid 'skullfans vs skullplayers' war I've taken side myself in the past("is skullfan an offense" thread, anyone?) and people throw cheap sarcasm at each other(You need to watch better comedy shows)
Some people exagerated and went very mean
But then we managed to calm down a bit, say sorry when we had, and the admins showed more interest in the community's opinions.
In large I'd say we're against closing the off-topic section, because it works to bring us together. Some skullplayers are neutral, only three/four openly approved the change(I'm not sure if Colossi is one of them, but his opinions don't matter anyway because he's a huge baby)

I lost much of the conversation because timezone, and this is my current opinion about it:
The off-topic should remain, but needs a lot of cleaning. Mayyyyybe less dicks. I know, I know, it's hard for me too to not talk furiously about dicks. We should give an hand too, though. And not in the dirty sense.
I think that this topic started dividing the casuals and players even more, but later united it, hell gilt even convinced me to finally start a diary.
As I said earlier, I want you admins to know I appreciate your trying, but you exagerated. I'm kindly asking to reconsider this. Again, a cleaning is definitely needed, but not so drastic.

How dare we get attached to something.

Hey, mine was not sarcasm. This is my favourite community.

I gotta go now, must take the dogs for a walk. They are obviously cuter than yours,Skarmand

Alright, guys.

Putting some of my favorite threads to rest? Yeah, sure, okay. I'll get what I got out of them from other threads now. I can live with that.

Burning Off-Topic? I can live with that too. Most forums have it; personally, I think shooting down all non-SG discussion is a good way to aggravate people, having just gone through a similar experience at the now-shambling remains of Exploding Rabbit; but I understand what you intended to accomplish with it. I can live with that too.

But making moderators read your posts before they're posted?

I understand that some people have decided to metaphorically flip and burn a couple cars as they exit the city, but does it really warrant this level of control? Only websites like Nickelodeon's forums pull stuff like this, and that's because they're websites for small children and they want to keep them from getting their feelings hurt.

This had best be a temporary thing, and even if it's not, I am still far less than happy about it.

In the Non-Gameplay Character Forum, yes, it absolutely needed to be done. Hopefully it will be temporary, but I have spent a large portion of my morning deleting and editing blatant troll and derailment posts, then issuing warnings and bans to dozens of users in that forum. I already have two teaching jobs to deal with, but instead I spent my morning dealing with assholes far less mature than the kids I teach. I couldn't keep up with how many people posted and how frequently they were doing it. I'm sick of it and this is the solution.

And no, this isn't me being excessively moderaterly. This was obvious targeted derailment from some very petty users that have done this in the past and gotten away with it. So now no one gets to post anything in that forum until we've checked it's an actual post. Maybe when those users grow up a bit we can move past needing an idiotic measure like this.

@CHAOS_FANTAZY
It only applies to the section of character discussion (waifu praising).
But yes I'm laughing at that too but I guess Cellsai wants to give himself that work to do, or he /has/ to, or something, idk.

I even got all my on topic posts deleted, and I was contributing the most to the thread!

EDIT: Oh there he cleared it up

Just another guy that 99% lurked in OT; I understand the decision the mods made, though I'm one that agrees that the sudden lock was a little too much. I've tried the "git gud" route for SG by watching people play, hanging out in Training, and trying to make sense of tech talk but 1) I think I'm finally burnt out on SG after its current 2.5 year tenure; I'll come back after Beowulf is done 2) I've been spending more time going through my game backlog, so time for practice in any fighting game is a low priority unless it's the current game I'm playing 3) if I'm gone from a fighter more than a couple of weeks, chances are any sort of "training" I had spent on it (whether it was a couple days to a couple of months) have probably evaporated, sending me back to "super scrub status" and finally 4) I've tried numerous times to get several online games going; most times people leave before I can accept. Seeing as how my few matches playing Persona 4 Ultimax had extreme lag on my end, online play would be frustrating no matter what (at the very least I did go to some cons this year and got wrecked in SG for the hell of it). So yeah, I'm a "skullfan" but I hardly give a crap about labels.

Anyway, actual contribution to topic starts now:

I have a suggestion, if the OT threads are considered to get unlocked, what if... there's some kind of top 3/5 promoted threads of the month/week, chosen by the Mods, located on its own box near the top of the main page? Which is only exclusive to the Skullgirls gameplay threads?

I liked this suggestion. I have one of my own: just have a yearly spring cleaning (or some other measured space of time).

I'll admit I mostly lurked in the OT area because I liked the community and had some good times there. But there really is a lot of crap there that's clogging up the place (and hey, look what was in there! http://skullgirls.com/forums/index....than-there-are-in-the-general-discussion.413/ tangentially related ancient topic ftw!)

So maybe once the mods are ready to unlock some topics from there (if you guys ever do), how about we take a vote from users on the topics we want to get rid of? Some threads can be deleted without saying (e.g. topics from 2013)*, but we can keep the ones that OT posters frequented. Heck, I'd help tally the votes and give the results to a mod if that would help alleviate the workload from them while they worked on actual site problems/moderation.

And since the actual problem with OT is the Recent Posts/What's New getting clogged up, is keeping the OT areas off those lists a possibility? Or is everything there pooled together automatically because that's how the system works?

*Even if OT stays dead, you mods could still probably get rid of the super ancient threads just to get rid of them. I mean, sure, you could keep them there for archives sake, but I doubt some people will care if topics that got a handful or even 0 replies ever existed. I know I don't.

Unfortunately, that isn't possible. I'd very much like for it to be possible, since it's an oft-requested feature.

I have no idea where else to post this, so I'll try here
In regard to personal drawing thread, are we still allowed to post art of Skullgirls fancharacters? Like humanizations of the parasites and charas like Junko?

Yeah, I meant to include that in the art rules. Fan characters, anthros of the parasites, etc, are allowed. They need to be related to SG in some fashion though. We mainly don't want people copying over their entire dA galleries with completely unrelated content.

If I draw Ileum throwing poison nails from an extended limb, is that not the same as 'future gameplay discussion'?
I don't really see the difference to writing "I suspect Ileum -were she ever to make it into the game- would throw poison nails and be able to extend her limbs"?

My two cents,

I think in any forum, organization is key. Forum size/bandwidth limitations obviously fall into this category.

I also believe that it's important to weigh volunteer time requirements against forum upkeep time requirements when making any kind of forum-restriction rules set.

With all of that in mind, and as this is an 'official' forum now, it makes sense that most discussion that takes place should be related in part to Skullgirls; however, at the same time I think it is also important to realize that we as people do like to feel a sense of community with any kind of forum, and part of that community feel is the 'chat room' element of forums. By 'chat room' element, I mean all of the fan fiction related to Skullgirls, and the random B.S.ing that happens in between the serious posts.

I think fan fiction is important as it allows players an outlet to express their creativity with the same love of the game. Though it may not be gameplay pertinent, I still think that kind of mindset is important to a community board. I think quarantining all of the fan fiction discussion to its own section in the forum, with perhaps 1 pinned thread per character and no ability to create new threads, would be an amenable solution.

With regard to the Off Topic discussion, one thing you might consider is limiting the off topic discussion to just one pinned thread at the bottom of the forum list. i.e. players cannot create off topic threads, but can post to the one off topic discussion so it is all housed in one place and easier to moderate.

Anyway, I hope everyone finds some sort of peace with whatever finalized changes go down, and that ya'll have a happy holidays :) I still think this game is fun regardless of what happens.

The bolded one is the true one. It was pretty active and important to the forum, and a lot of people here have given reasons why.
