Street Fighter V

So if you block DPs now, you get a counterhit, and in-turn, a crush counter.

Meanwhile KA in Rising Thunder...

People are going to get crushed.

all I need to know is one thing:

is kikouken a charge move, or a motion move?

charge.

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!

That was totally uncalled for. Some people actually like charge characters and would rather not be stuck exclusively playing Bison.

Let's cut the bullshit. Rashid is a tailor-made power fantasy for a specific Middle Eastern demographic (male youth, surprise surprise). Occupation: rich guy's son? His hook is that he just does whatever, wears google glass, and likes to post to instagram? Oh, but he's, "nice," and uses the wind or some shit, great.

Look, I get it. Lackadaisical character design is SF's thing, whatever. This is just embarrassing, though. The equivalent American character would be an aimless white ivy league graduate with no job just going around fighting people on his senator father's dime.

Fuck, even Ken's showboating is backed up by his internal competitive fire, and endless need to compete in martial competition (which is his occupation, btw: martial artist). How this shit am I supposed to like Rashid? He's just an unemployed, bodybuilding, man-child genie.
"Utter fucking douche," seems to be the order of the day for SFV, though. Banana-Hair Ken is almost as unlikable as Rashid, to me.

I don't care. I like Kikouken as a motion move.
I don't like SF4 Chun but Alpha and Third Strike are my jam.

I like Chun as a hybrid.

Maybe a little early to give up on Rashid no?
We've got his visual design, moveset and a few victory quotes to go on.

This made me laugh, but even if this was the complete limit to his character, I'd be fine with that. Visually, he gives me C. Viper vibes, one of my old mains and fave designs of IV.

Also, as an fairly lazy person, I could find motivated, honorable fighters like Ryu, Guy and Fei Long to be 'power fantasies'. I'm not massively convinced against power fantasies in video games personally, its too subjective for me.

You have answered your own question ;)

I just like Rashid because he's very clearly an arabian nights inspired character.
just put into a modern setting.
I will say though, he does really feel like he's designed to really try hard and appeal to the hip young crowd.

but my love of arabian nights kinda pushes through on that.

Like Ken's "internal competitive fire" isn't meant to appeal to a very specific demographic? Or Guile? Or most of SF?

In any case, I like Rashid's design. Hell, I'll go a step further and say I think the design in SFV is better than (most?) previous iterations of the game.

As for the story? Well SF's story is shit to begin with. Rashid's story being shit is simply a tiny bit more shitty icing on the extra shitty cake.

Oh, every character is meant to appeal to something, no doubt. It's just that Rashid is meant to appeal to young people who dream of never having any responsibility and having unending access to their rich father's bank account, indulging in some contrived, jet-setting single's lifestyle, traveling around the world and spending obscene amounts of cash on gaudy bullshit like green monocles.
  • Ken's character was also born into wealth, but is not motivated by adventure or money. Instead, he does it for a sense of personal achievement, much like Ryu. He also maintains a loving relationship with his wife and son. He actually cares about the things in his life.
  • Guile is serving in the military, with distinction. He's a patriot with a sense of duty. Also, aside from his out-of-regulation hair, he avoids any showboating or wasteful nonsense.
To those ends, I find them far more likable than a guy doing it because he's rich and bored. Of course, further revelations about him could always change his portyal. I'm just betting it won't.

Actually, there is hint that he is fighting to save someone he cares about, a friend, i don't know.

Hey, using all that money and free time to actually help somebody is the kind of thing that would make him more bearable, yeah. I guess we'll see.

Do we know of this game will support PS3 sticks. I know MKX and USF4 do.

Kind of meh on his design. Feels like the 'scouter' just clutters the design and was unnecessary. Doesn't help his personal bio isn't exactly appealing either. So far gameplay wise the more footage I see he is the closest thing to El Fuerte so far which isn't a positive for me either. Anxious for TGS reveal.

Closest thing to El Fuerte... there is something wrong with what you just said. cause from what I have seen he is like nothing like the Mexican Jumping Bean. He's more like Juri with his limited cyclone kicks. His V-Skill has him either jumping in a high punishable ark or rolling for a long distance before he can input his moves. And from what I have seen from him he doesn't have a command run (the main thing that El Fuerte has and must use to win)

Long Story short Rashid is about Crossing up where as El Fuerte is about mixing up with a high low or grab and doing resets. soooooooooo yeah.

His moveset always seemed more like Guy's to me.

That was the first character I thought of when I saw that blurry phone view of his trailer. I thought Guy got a heavy redesign.

again, I can say that it feels like they're trying to make Rashid a bit TOO positive and trying to be with the hip "in with the times" crowd.

i mean it's not like arabs have had any nasty stereotypes associated with them or anything.

I'm not saying make him a terrorist.
all I'm saying is let him smack-talk in dialogue or something.
everyone seems to have varying degrees (except for Ryu, but him shit-talking is kinda against the whole "answer lies in the heart of battle" kinda deal)
it's more of the fact that he's too trendy and too nice.

just dial it back a bit.

I mean, Elena is just an unambiguously and unironically nice person. She doesn't have a hint of meanness or smacktalk in her dialogue. She even takes a selfie with Akuma in her USFIV ending. I really don't see the issue with having a character from a frequently demonized denomination just be an unamibuously nice and friendly person who likes fun and friends.

Elena falls into the same deal as Ryu because of super spiritual nature. (even though one of her taunts in Ultra is her saying she doesn't like your dance)
like, a better example would be Dudley.
super nice, not to mention GENTEEL, but he'll also say things like "you have no dignity" and "gutter trash"
like, I know I get they're trying to make an appealing character, but it's so ham-fisted.

Wait a second...

Rashid's Bio said:
  • Occupation: Eldest son of a wealthy Middle Eastern family
  • Fight style: Parkour
  • Skills: Puzzle Solving

...Prince of Persia, is that you?

While I think Kai is kind of over reacting I think the idea of someone who appears to basically be the son of an oil sheikh or Saudi royalty is also the nicest person ever because he is so care free, having to never worry about anything since everything ever is provided for him, etc. becomes someone you might not want to sympathize with.

I want to stress this is not my mindset for the character, but I can see why someone could think, in Kai's words, that he's a douche.

(Missed this earlier) Last they said was "they're looking into it", I think the USFIV port scared the hell out of them as far as using tech that wasn't theirs, especially since increased input lag was a problem, hopefully they'll actually look into it and see the driver isn't a problem, but as it stands it does not unless you're buying it on PC, so tournaments could be an issue, yeah.

CORKSCREW CROSS?
It really looks like it.

Karin's Alpha Counter and her anti air super have a sort of wind effect too though, the Alpha Counter has the spin as well, so I'm hoping for that. Dudley is fine though, game needs a boxer.

Not gonna bite on this one since I can think of several characters that can

A. Have a move that knocks back far
B. Could do it in a way that makes a character spin like that.

It can only be a new face or a returning, but even the returning can be hard to predict due to how they can be radically redesigned.

Corkscrew Cross seems too obvious like another Cody Criminal Upper. Ono seems to picking these on purpose to throw people off. Not to mention that corner spin is already a thing in this game in general.

Thank goodness we won't have to wait until the 19th.

Is there a reason SF games don't allow counter hits during the recovery of attacks? I mean on it's own I think DPs being counter hit state is a little silly. A DP punish was always going to be a heavy punish, did it specifically need to get punished harder? I don't think so. If they just made recovery frames counter hit that would make more sense, to me at least.

My feeling as well, though I'm curious what the deal is with that.

Ono posted these pictures and said he is taking the stage on the 17th at 2:30, so then what is happening on the 19th? They going to finally talk about the story stuff they've been hyping up?

I think this comes out of an overreaction to DP spam in IV. They even mentioned at Evo one of their official goals was "if you guess wrong and DP you should be punished", or something like that.
