Gaming General Discusison

well, it took almost 3 months to get an announcement of localization for TMS, so I assume it will be a little while for localization announcements to come for SMT4 Final.
I'm not one of the people freaking out about how Final isn't coming at all, I think it's way too early for that, especially since I think it's totally possible they'll hold it until after Persona 5. That said, TMS is not the norm, this is the longest wait for a mainline game to get announced since Nocturne if I remember correctly, that said, the game was announced 4 months prior to release, so who knows how that changed things.

That said, having a look around and seeing Hardin's posts on Twitter, it certainly isn't looking great.

TMS completely bombed in japan, I'm amazed they decided to export it at all.
They're trying to break even on the costs of making the game by releasing it in other places with as little money put into it as they can.
You can see that with them not dubbing it even though early info released indicated that they were going to dub the game and the songs, etc.

Is this were I post this?

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight has finally been released. It is the 4th entry in the fantastic Momodora series.
I wholeheartedly recommend that you check this game out if you like 2d-Platformers, and more-so if you like gorgeous pixel art.
I have not played it myself yet, but from what I can see and from what I hear it is visually gorgeous with an amazing soundtrack and an atmosphere that could kill.

"But Fumako, I played the other momodoras and I didn't like them, why should I check this out?"
This game is polished, man.
From what I hear it's got some dark-soulsy elements in there; from what I can deduce, what I see they're right in that it has atmosphere and hits look like they're satisfying.
If you didn't like the simplistic combat of the previous entries, don't worry; this game has a overhauled fantastic combat system.

Oh, the title and titlescreen also kinda remind me of touhou, which is nice.

"That seems nice, but I'd like more information from other sources..."
In the spoiler, my friend.

Little late to this, but can I just point out what an amazing title Kirby: Planet Robobot is? They combined the words Robot and Robot.

This is gonna be late but they confirmed before that it's not World of Darkness.
Yeah, you were late on that, shame I hadn't heard that yet though. Still, new Obsidian game, that's cool regardless.

They apparently want to release a World of Darkness game before the year is over, they have some weird plan of having tomes released with the games that could still theoretically work as game books.

I regret purchasing Skullgirls on my xbox. Should have done my research and bought it on PC. This is gonna sound a bit out of hand but anyone out there on steam who is willing to share skullgirls

It goes on sale pretty regularly. Just keep your ear to the ground and you should be able to pick it up and all the dlc for less than $10. Just make sure when you do buy it that it's going to include multiplayer.

Hey, dunno how I missed this, but I just recently discovered that both @Kai and Hiroki Kikuta are going to have work featured in another upcoming video game. Cool stuff! Good thing they managed to get funded despite that tight holiday rush.
I also noticed this game was part of that Square Collective thing I've kept hearing about, along with Dark Flame, Children of Zodiarcs, and a bunch of others. I've only seen the Collective's role described from a PR perspective, so I'm not quite sure what Square's actual arrangement with these developers is, but if they're seriously helping these groups out, then that's cool. Honestly, I never imagined a time where I'd be giving Squeenix more kudos than Konami.

Pretty nuts how many quality games are still coming down the pike too. I wouldn't be surprised if one of these gets released before M#9!

SEC doesn't help financially, but offers help with marketing and social media skills, stuff like that. Basically, they help developers help themselves, which is cool, but it's not quite as involved as I think some people might believe.

It was looking pretty tight for Pankapu, but going episodic and smaller meant they had a real shot, and they managed to pull it off. The story-within-a-story is actually pretty interesting, but you'll have to wait and see for yourselves ;)

Yeah, that's pretty cool! I also saw on their page that they won't take a cut of any funding unless the developers' campaign is successful, which sounds really generous. They definitely picked a great time to get engaged with creators in this way.

I just hope their relationships pan out well for everyone in the long run. I remember years ago when comics companies like DC tried to do similar things like this with indie webcomics, and it ended up terrible. While stuff like Zuda looked smooth on the surface, the management was apparently a total mess in the background. After a few years, only a few creators managed to make it out of these things without feeling like the whole deal was a big waste of their time. I'd definitely hate for that to happen here.

Anyway, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled on Pankapu for sure!

So who's been playing Hyper Light Drifter? I've only had a little bit of time to check out my Backer copy, but so far it seems pretty cool. Music and graphics deliver as promised, and the wealth of opening cutscenes have been a nice surprise. It looks like it'll be a nice challenging game with a lot of good production value. Hopefully its release can also help shake off more of that skepticism towards crowdfunded games that we've been seeing for the last few years.

BUT, I GOTTA SAY...

WHY NO BUTTON CONFIG???

Because it's a KS made game.

What I'm hearing about HLD is that it's not that good, too.

I'm really enjoying it, game is very relaxing, even when I'm stuck. I agree though, it desperately needs button configuration.

So who's been playing Hyper Light Drifter?

Importing my statements from Steam and another forum ^_^

So far this is pretty good.

Combat is surprisingly nuanced and the challenge level seems sound. Solid exploration with a fair amount of secrets. Good atmosphere and animation. Some technical issues like a few bugs and fps drops at times but very fun none the less.

Yeah, I was about to post about how much I enjoy the game as well.

Nice exploration, great animations, solid atmosphere, good traps and level design, and very fun combat. You covered the weight and sense of impact, but I also like the fast pace, freedom to improvise, and the surprisingly clever combos. Wall bouncing enemies with the dash attack, and then shooting them full screen with the laser rifle is endlessly satisfying. Especially the meaty squish when they hit the wall lol.

I'd say the challenge level is moderate. Not too easy, not too hard. I might consider boosting it with a nice no death run sometime or other, depending on how long it ultimately turns out to be.

So yeah should be well worth the money for anyone interested in a 2d sci-fi Dark Souls (as that's what the aesthetic and atmosphere screams).

I think people will need to be careful about how they filter certain feedback on HLD for the time being. It was a big deal on KS and attracted many fans, but I think a bunch of folks that followed the game were just expecting something easier than what it is. Sure, the dev could have offered additional difficulty settings here, but it's not like every game needs to have those clearly spelled out. The game already gives the player a pretty flexible challenge curve with constant Auto-Saving, free exploration, few enemy respawns, and warps providing quick access to upgrades.

I do agree with some folks that the cap on framerate is an issue though, but for those who aren't physically distraught by it, I don't think it affects the gameplay that much for right now. If your primary strategy is to just rush into a skirmish and mash buttons, you'll be screwed anyway. Smart players should still get by just fine once they work through the hiccups.

Anyway the game definitely has some quirks, but so far I think it's quite playable and well put together. I'd just like to be able to remap some of my buttons pls.

What you heard is wrong :3 this one is going straight to my "Real Man Games For Real Men" Steam library category.

I lol at that stupid RPS article that says the bosses are too hard. Haven't encountered a single one that took me more then a few attempts. GET GOOD SCRUBS ^_^

Jim Sterling seemed to like it earlier. I only watched about the first ten minutes, but still, it sounded positive.

Then there's Mike Z's stream from the Indivisible campaign... which I can't seem to find. That's odd. Well, he seemed to like it during an early build, so I guess it can't all be negative.

so I guess it can't all be negative.

Besides the dumb RPS article, who's saying anything negative about this? I am going to seriously facepalm if this excellent game gets a bad rep because ??? people are dumb.

You guys need to play shadowrun Dragonfall.

The game is amazing, the plot is incredible!

And glory's back story... Goddamn!

I wasn't a big fan of the fighting- especially waiting on every. single. enemy. to individually move in-turn. Made some of the later missions pretty dull, and it didn't help that these latter missions were also some of the harder ones 'cause of the aforementioned multitude of baddies. Also, there were tons of UI elements I completely missed until the very end. Like different item menus for spells.

But the plot was glorious. Utterly glorious.

Shadowrun's definitely on my more immediate backlog. I'm not into table top games, but like many such rpg's, I always thought the setting was cool as fuck (of course it has to be, since a cool setting is half of what they're selling with a table top rpg). Looking forward to it.

Also time to talk about my game some more!

Some WIP player character sprite animations for my game in development, for anyone interested.

My artist friend has requested constructive criticism for all of the above, so if there are any artists here or anyone who can think of anything, do tell :3

And a rather big development update.

We're currently brain storming a design for the first boss. Tossing sketches and reference material back and forth while throwing out ideas, etc.

if the wing flapping is the general idle animation, it feels slow and the last few frames feel like they skip forward. In an actual game with a background and more screen clutter it may look more passable, but here it just feels awkward and slow.

The rest is ok, but the turn seems a bit too fast compared to the wing flap, hence why that feels slow.

It miiight be slower due to browser speed playing the gif incorrectly, something he warned me about a few times. He has been altering the flap timing on the neutral one for the past week or so though. But I'll let him know about that, thanks! ^_^

Good catch, he might have already caught that one since the turn was actually a draft from a while back, but I'll definitely bring it up when we talk tonight!

Do you have any experience in art, by any chance?

*edit* Oh nevermind lol, I just viewed the gif in imgur, and the hand stubs are still there lol. They just become a little more shadowed and blend in with the dark grey background here lol.
