Holy shieeeeeeet that stream today. I'm blown away by how much work they've done.

-VERY fleshed out singleplayer/lobby overworld mode

-Bunch of pixel art assets already made for it.

-Walk around, talk to and fight NPC ponies.

-Find chests and pick up items to recover HP/Magic/Meter after fighting.

-Each character has their own unique special ability that they can use in the overworld. Arizona can stomp to stun approaching enemies, Velvet's elf carries a lantern that lights up dark areas, Pom's puppies are with her in the overworld and can sniff out hidden items.

-Level building tools made specifically for the lobby mode so the feature can be iterated upon and completed even faster.

-COMPLETELY NEW FIGHTERS in the form of RPG predator enemies. No more pallete swaps to imply mooks, these are ALL NEW ASSETS.

-Predators will be simple fighters with a handful of animations, each one embodying a certain mechanic/strategy of fighting games.

-Common trait among Predators is that they have low health but deal very high damage.

-First Predator is a basic shadowy wolf enemy, three attacks, basic, super telegraphed mid, low, and high attack. Goomba essentially.

-Overworld has music, two tracks so far.

-Very wip basic level shown off in detail.

-AI has taken leaps and bounds in complexity, AI has instructions on what to do based on distance from opponent, how much of each bar it has, what you're doing.

-AI building looks similar to Mabinogi Pet Custom AI if you've seen it.

AI has groundbreaking reaction programming based on hitbox positioning. Will jump or armor projectiles based on where the hitbox is and how fast it's moving.

-AI can apparently learn, don't remember the details

AI is performing combos the devs haven't taught them yet.

-AI can be programmed to have perfect 1 frame reactions to all attacks and to learn very fast, so at some point Nigh Unbeatable "Skynet" AI Opponents can be created.

-Accessories for lobby sprites in the works, something like 56/120 accessory tier backers have responded so far.

-Palletes in the works, something like 30/100 Pallete tier backers have responded so far, with 20 requests for Oleander palletes.

-A few backers have told the devs to just freestyle and make whatever accessory they want, Cheeseburger hat for Arizona discussed.

-Faust was on the stream before i tuned in, not sure what happened.

I prob forgot something but dang, that was an epic stream. Should i spoiler this to conserve page length?

So it looks like people want:

- George as a lobby sprite prop
- A Road Roller as a lobby sprite
- A Parasoul palette for Velvet

Stream a few hours ago. Really not much to report... just more lobby stuff and pixel art. Tien appears to have an actual idle. Devs were mainly showing AI, we got some really hilarious "in-character" AI for Pom, who keeps a set distance from you no matter what, summons puppies the moment you do anything remotely unsafe, and only lashes out if you attack her first. Mentioned she will be the hardest character to get AI working well with due to the complex puppet mechanics she uses, but eventually she will be a beast. AI checking things like enemy magic, amount of round time left, and remaining health and going into beastmode based on these things was mentioned. Devs continued to show off tech and combos the AI is continuing to teach itself with no imput on their part, In particular showing off a super conversion Ari's AI invented all by itself, acting solely out of predicted hitbox and hurtbox locations. Arizona and Velvet still the most "modeled" characters in the game, devs point out clipping and tiny defects in Arizona's vectors that Velvet lacks, mention wanting to do multiple quality passes on these things before release. Stream switched to piexel art for a few minutes showing off more backer hats, and that was about it.

Talk about a drop dead thread.... Where have they been?

Well... I just heard about this game I guess.

Funny thing is, I had just remembered that Fighting is Magic was a thing, but I found this completely unrelated to that (through a Skullgirls thing 'cause of the Z-Engine and all). I have to say I'm much more interested in the characters and lore here than in MLP, exceeeept for Paprika. Just compare her backstory to Velvet's, they're very similar in that they're completely different from the usual strong members of their races, but Velvet won through finesse and wits while Paprika just breaks the laws of physics to allow such a completely insufferable character amongst an otherwise-interesting tribe. Worse than Pinkie Pie.

If Velvet has at least one of Eliza's quotes, I am maining her and never looking back. Otherwise the unicorn and Tianhuo are contenders.

I also want playable predators. Gimme the bear!

More dead thread deliciousness. No real new features on yesterday's stream. Mostly getting the models and such ready. Oleander's book actually exists now, not fully palletized though. Paparika underwent a small redesign, and Tian has some extra frames, but still has the longest combos with no model to enjoy them with, so still a cardboard blob slamming into Pom basically. Tien's stage was shown, looks rather awesome. Not much else, barely a one-hour stream.

I wayyyy missed the crowdfunding, so yeah, no way here. But it comes out when it comes out. All chill.

Do they seriously have all the characters and stages done, though? I haven't been keeping up all that much, but from what little I saw there was quite a ways... maybe it was older stuff.

Yeah they have all the characters in the game but the goat. Last I knew, they still had some unfinished animations, but they were working on polishing those up, so who knows where they are at now. Not sure about the stages though, and their dynamic music was not ready last I knew.

No. The game will be released after beta is over. I'm pretty sure most of the work that is left is art related. My personal guess is that we will at least have the NDA lifted within two weeks(as that would loosely resemble their previous time estimate), but that all depends on the progress of the game.

It's been two months since a work stream, but from what we've seen the game is, more or less, gameplay-complete for most characters. All that seems to be left is to feature-complete the game (Story, Lobbies, Training, and AI, with the other things they've mentioned in passing probably coming later) and to iron out all that dang cardboard. So I'd say you're right.

I really hope the NDA is lifted soon, dying to see what they've been up to.
 
I've been playing for awhile, (and before closed beta started) it's very fun and I like it a lot!

Feels a lot like Skullgirls and borrows many of the defensive mechanics.
The offence is less than half as mean as Skullgirls, and some characters don't get powerful mix up options or vortex.

To be fair, I've found angry retail customers and cartoon supervillains less than half as mean as Skullgirls. Say what you will for Chairface Chippendale, at least he won't use Beat Extend assist. :P
