EVO 2014 Lineup Announced, Skullgirls Still #BiggestSideTournament

Why wouldn't it be again, though? Was it not considered successful as a side tourney?
It was the biggest side tourney last year. However, the stream was using one of the official channels. So this year if we want to stream we will likely have to do it ourselves.

Poverty-style.

As in the past, I'll bring the grand prize of one water bottle and a Kind granola bar.

This makes me sad. I was seriously considering starting a training regimen and flying out if SG made it to EVO.

I guess I'll have to start playing something more mainstream if I ever want the opportunity to compete in some majors.

Or you could go to EVO and play in the side tournament. Then hang out with the guys. The community is full of awesome people.

I went to EVO for the side tournament. And I wasn't the person who traveled the longest distance for it either. Inuchiyo came from Japan just to play Skullgirls. And I'm sure a few UK players did as well (not sure if just for SG).

lol who cares if it's not gonna be on stream. I am sure the matches will be at least recorded. I'll 100% be at EVO this year to smash some nerds.

So we can all agree that there will definitely be people playing SG at EVO one way or another, and there will be a recording if not a live stream.

Out of curiosity, though, what is the barrier to us holding a stream at the venue? Is it just the lack of reliable internet?

Oh man, that's totally a bummer. There's no way you can play SG now. Like, there is a literal barrier that now prevents you from enjoying this game. That just really sucks.

I feel so bad for you bro.

Look I don't want to come off as an ass, but this is the mentality that burns me. So SkullGirls isn't a main tourney at Evo, boo hoo. Come out here anyway and play for god sakes. We need numbers, this is the exact reason why SG wasn't included at Evo, because we have no numbers. It's this mentality that the reason why SG is slowly dying.

Please for the love of everything that is skullgirls, please come for SkullGirls sake. If we want to prove something, we have to do it in numbers.

The lack of Evo allowing people to use bandwidth at the venue.

hmmm i'm not surprised. I am however kinda bummed that there is a chance melee won't make it. I know we all like Skullgirls and all, but it would be pretty sad if nintendo decides to say no.

Yeah, I'm more content with just being there. Underdogs all the way! >w<

I doubt Nintendo would say no considering last year was a PR mishap

Heck, I went to EVO twice, the first time was for the event and mostly SG the second time was ONLY for SG, I even extended my stay to go to Salty. A big event like EVO, or any Major for that matter, when you get to hang out with the people that love the same things you do, play and step up (I've stepped up a lot after playing SG with the guys at EVO.) your game is an unforgettable experience.

As for all the difficulties involved to go to events, like money, ride, etc... I saved money for 11 months to make the first trip. Road trip with people from the community, those are usually mad fun and crazy.

Unfortunately I won't be able to return this year, but I'll continue to support this community for life, and I'll be back in 2015 to get my revenge and to MM Ken again! o/

Even if it is a side tourney, being at EVO is still pretty big. Hopefully we'll be a main game one of these days but that time just isn't now.

Still though, that gives us no excuse to not go and play Skullgirls. We gotta show our love and support.

170 people?! why isnt that a main game if it is that big?

I think all your problems is the "not console edition" situation... But i think we will remedy this soon and next year they will need put SG in the main!!!!

Really gotta love that instead of just letting AE2012 rock for one final year, we're supposed to sit through a game whose final roster we don't even know yet. Getting ready to watch a buttload of Month 1 Hugos, Month 1 5th character, and whatever glitches Ultra has, cause after Cross Tekken I really don't have high enough hopes in Capcom to think it won't.

Didn't they do this when Super SF4 first came out and it was apparently a hype EVO tournament?

-sigh- Another year, another side-tourney at EVO. Can we make this turnout the hypest ever so they can ACTUALLY consider us for a main game slot next year?

It's based on participation over the entire year and not just the numbers at EVO. Based on the turnout SG gets on average + the games it has to compete with, I don't see it ever having a main spot at EVO. Best chance is another breast cancer donation drive or something.

In general I agree with the premise that because Ultra is essentially the same game from an engine/system/mechanics/moves standpoint that there isn't as much adjustment needed for new players, and so a shorter time after release is acceptable. However, the fact that they are also introducing new characters that are unlike the existing ones in significant ways - particularly Hugo - makes me think that the tournament will probably not be as interesting to watch completely until the end of the tournament when the gimmick players have been rooted out.

But even then, that's not an argument for including SG, only for using AE 2012 instead. And because SRK is a Capcom-oriented site they want to do things that will please them, so there's no way they'd run 2012 unless there's a huge backlash. And that's not even necessarily a bad thing, it just is what it is.

No Skullgirls, Persona or Tekken? blech. Unless there can be promises of a hella awesome party room like last year, almost not worth dropping that ~1K on.

Yeah, I went to Evo from the UK just for SG. I'd love to go again this year if I can afford it!

I appreciate the biting sarcasm. Are you going to be at EVO or are you just being a dick for being a dick's sake?

Injustice killed Skullgirls' chances
:BIN:
ST, MvC2 and CvS2 were all further up the line than Skullgirls.

Welp, SG won't be a main game at CEO either: http://ceogaming.org/rules

So will there be a side tourney there too? This is like the only event I can ever play offline for this game >_>
People still play Divekick enough to warrant main game status? Wow.

I doubt I'll be able to make it otherwise I'd run it but now I don't know. :/

That's a shame. I hope something will happen there. With no SG and Persona, I guess it gives me an excuse to finally pick up KoF so I have something to play in a tourney this year...

As long as there's a skullgirls tournament of some sort, side or otherwise, I'm going, I don't give a fuck.

I want to meet skullpeople, drink and laugh with skullpeople, and learn a lot during casuals.

Doing the same thing. haha.
Hopefully the side tourney will be hype like last year. That was hella fun.

Christ guys go and ask the people running the tournament if you can hold a tournament. You're not going anything on a silver platter, go out and get it on your own.

Too bad that infamous Duckie post got lost in the old Skullheart.

I wonder if he had it saved in a doc so we could bring it back.
Paging @DaRabidDuckie just in case.

can I get the cliff's notes of the infamous duckie post that I somehow didn't see?
Also...are Duckie and Duckator the same person? Cause I feel like they're not.

Duckie is DaRabidDuckie, perhaps best known as the guy who mods sticks and loves his shimapan.

Basically the post was along the lines of 'stop making excuses for not going to tournaments', and there was some drama that followed.

Unfortunately there's no known copy of the thread left, but it was basically "If you want a competitive scene go out and make one you lazy bastards."
Also...are Duckie and Duckator the same person? Cause I feel like they're not.
Both ducks, different people.

I'm pretty sure I'll be a both FR and CEO.

Doubt evo, doe.

If ten or more show up, I wouldn't mind running things, maybe a pixelsarus piece for the winner since Jessica is there every year.

inorite

But fuck flying across the continent to evo.

CEO miight happen but probably not because since I did it last year I wanna switch it with UFGT but damn :(

Civil War?
