Forums for the Skullgirls Comunity. The indie fighting game with tournament-level gameplay and high quality 2D art!

Hello Skullgirls community! I'm very happy to announce that in partnership with the Skullgirls Tour and will be holding a fundraiser drive to bring international players to Combobreaker 2017!

StreamMe has graciously provided our organization with $2000 to bring international players to Combobreaker next month.

Starting on Saturday, May 6th starting on, the players selected to be sent to Combobreaker will be announced. Be sure to tune in and find out who you'll be competing with!

Additionally, any extra funds raised will be used to fly in as many additional players as possible. Every player selected will be from a different country of origin. Any additional funds past that amount will be added to Combobreaker's Skullgirls pot bonus!

The stream will feature several exhibition sets. Expect the stream time to run around 6 hours. We're in it for the long haul! Some ideas for exhibitions we're currently kicking around are as follows

-Japan exhibition (Japanese players only, with ENG commentators)
-European exhibition (same deal, but with European players)
-Brazilian Kumite
-NA exhibition (East vs West coast? The fabled hype match that never happened? What a great way to finally settle the score...)

We're currently looking for three backup commentators for this event. If you'd like to volunteer, please let us know!

Skullgirls: Second Encore + is soon to have a physical release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, now available outside of Japan. Pre-orders will start this Monday, October 31st through Limited Run Games. However unlike the Japanese version, this physical release of Skullgirls will be completely in English. That is, unless a minimum of 10,000 pre-orders are sold. If that milestone can be reached, Lab Zero will be able to pay the licensing costs for the Japanese character voices to be included in the Steam, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita versions of Skullgirls for the United States and Europe.
This version of Skullgirls will contain everything you'd get with the digital copy of Skullgirls: Second Encore and then some. You will receive every character in addition to voiced story mode, challenges, and survival mode all on one disk. However the package isn't limited to just a single disk, you will also get a physical copy of 19 songs from the Skullgirls Soundtrack, a decorative slip cover, and a fully colored instruction manual that will surely be full of hot gameplay tips and never before seen lore.
In addition, if you're feeling the holiday spirit and know someone who could use a copy of... Pre-orders for physical copies of Skullgirls: Second Encore begin this Halloween...
Even with Indivisible's development going full steam ahead, Lab Zero Games finds the time to show Skullgirls some love. This week's Salty is all about tweaks and balance changes, and a lot of them!

Lab Zero are still hard at work on patching lobbies into the console versions of Skullgirls, as community manager Render revealed in yesterday's blog post. While lobbies are still undergoing preliminary internal testing, lead designer Mike Z has been hard at work not only on their implementation, but a significant amount of bugfixes, quality of life improvements, and balance adjustments. Every character gets changes this time around:

Proposed last fixes for SG2E
Skullgirls: 2nd Encore - Foray Into Irregular Scintillating Heavens Each Day (FInISHED) (← This is a joke)

Bug fixes:

  • Fix getting backward inputs as a reversal after ground techs occasionally! Now, if you do the move the way your character will be facing, it will correctly come out.
  • Allow everyone to negative-edge snapbacks! Oops? (brought to my attention by ShadowFury333)
  • On all platforms except the PS Vita, made the “Leader / ## Wins” text smaller, and moved it down further, to maybe give space above it for stream overlays. MAYBE. (Broken Loose)

After recent events concerning the organization of several tournaments and our successful efforts to improve turnout at specific events, the Skullgirls community would like to communicate the following to those considering adding Skullgirls to a future tournament lineup:

Later this year, Hidden Variable Studios will be releasing a Skullgirls game on Android and iOs supported devices. While the game will not be a Fighting game like the Skullgirls you know and love, it will instead feature RPG elements in its progression system and contain elements of teambuilding and deckbuilding. One might not expect the game to be able to match the speed and intensity that one would find in Skullgirls, however Hidden Variable has gone to great lengths to make sure that the game will be lively enough to keep the attention of fighting game fans as well as those that enjoy the Skullgirls universe and want an accessible mobile game. Lab Zero CEO Peter Bartholow has stated that he is looking forward to fans of Skullgirls checking the game out.

While Lab Zero is working with Hidden Variable to make this game, it is not being made by Lab Zero so don't expect it to share any similarities to Indivisible. One last interesting bit of information is that on release the game will be set as a prequel to the events of Skullgirls, however it will continue to explore other parts of the setting in the future as the game expands.

In addition, if you're interested in the game, Hidden Variable will be accepting fans into a Closed Beta starting today so people can...
