Now I will start off, I've never actually played any of the Killer Instinct games, but I feel this topic deserves to be made. Killer instinct has had a huge following for years from what I understand, and it had a unique and colorful cast when it first came out.

I know that most people aren't looking forward to the new Killer instinct, mostly due to it's practices and being on the Xbone, but I feel the game deserves to be mentioned somewhat. It has changed heavily since the Evo build, and I think regardless, it'll be an interesting game to watch in my opinion.

Killer Instinct was always fascinating because of it's crazy and long combos.

What do you guys think/feel about the series and the upcoming Killer instinct.

- The characters got some radical modern redesigns which personally I found a positive since the old ones look dated for 2013 (Spawn Glacius, Midriff top w/ ripped holes Jago, etc), but they have nostalgia outfits available if you prefer that.

- Music wise the game is doing KI series justice if not possibly surpasses the previous titles tracks so far. Jago and Chief Thunder themes is just really that good. Have to wait how the other characters themes turn out to completely judge though.

- Game is missing some superficial additions like No Mercy, but I can live with that. Like if a MK game shipped with no Fatalities.

- Game looks more visually appealing then say SSFIV mostly because of the little things such as the particle effects on the fireballs, stage is changing in the background as the fight happens (Bell falls down, Tornadoes, etc)

- Like VS and Injustice it has 2 continuous life bars.

- gameplay is relatively easy to pickup with the combos, but the amount of systems layered into the game can create some interesting mind-games.

- Won't be 1080 Ip, but 60 FPS guaranteed.

- Game initially released with 6 characters (Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius, Chief Thunder, Sadira, and B. Orchid) with 2 more characters shortly after for S1. S2 of characters is planned apparently so game can turn out to be a keeper after a year has passed.

- Online will utilize rollback netcode

- Story Mode won't be shipped initially? Still planned once more characters are in.

- Numerous Color palettes for each character

-Training/Dojo Mode looks really promising based on the MS streams showcase

- DH is very open to community feedback it seems and would have a public Beta test.

In short the game can be great, but like Skullgirls suffers from a limited roster size which can make its first few months in the fgc rough, but can overcome this if they have a loyal and active community. Also if you are outright against anything to do with XB1 then there is also that.

It's hard to think that I've been bumpin' that KI soundtrack for almost two decades. Rare was such a wicked company back then.

The new Killer Instinct looks like it's coming together okay. I'll admit I'm still a bit bothered by Glacius' redesign, but I like that DH is at least preserving the characters' over-the-top personalities, and not just focusing on a "realistic" look for everyone. I don't even really mind if No Mercies are left out. I've always felt Ultras and Ultimates were more KI's thing, and MK could keep the Fatalities.

Unfortunately, while the new KI is probably the nextgen game I'm most interested in, it's on the console I will probably never own. I'll happily wait three years for the finished game...and the Steam release (lol).

I really think KI is the only thing going for the Xbone, and while it does look good, I seriously can't agree with the whole concept of "Seasons", it's neat, yes, but something about it just rubs me the wrong way.
Also no Fulgore in the first release?
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

The season decision is fit for the time constraints microsoft imposed.

and i'd rather have 6 unique and balanced characters than a roster of 40 with 5 ryu semi-clones or broken beyond repair

Seasons doesn't rub me the wrong way any more then disc exclusive fighting game updates ($60+ another $40 now) that requires you to buy the same game again (SSFIV, UMvC3, Etc).

It was either Fulgore the "face" of KI or the "Chun Li" of KI that would make the initial 6. Considering there was only one other female in the game (who was new) DH probably leaned more towards B.Orchid (aka boobs of death) to help even out the gender split.

The art style is warming up to me. I think Jago looks pretty badass actually. So does Saberwulf.

I'm glad somebody made this thread because, I love Killer Instinct. I loved it because of the strange cast of characters and I always liked it better than MK and Street Fighter. I'm personally looking forward to the new KI and even though I don't agree with everything there doing Double Helix is making the best out of what they got. I read comments saying "why does the game only have 6 characters" or "this game doesn't look like the original KI".

The game only has 6 characters because Double Helix only started working on it a year ago and they will add more later. The original game came out in 1994 and people are complaining about it not being like the original KI, but the game has to change some in order to keep up with the times. I like Killer Instinct and even though I don't plan to buy an Xbone at launch, I do plan on buying one and playing this awesome game.

The only thing I don't like is that there won't be a disc copy of the game and that Microsoft is so money hungry that they can't even give Double Helix an extra year to work on this game, but other than that I think the game will be awesome.

So anyone got a favorite KI character? My brother and I always played Jago and Sabrewulf, so it was kinda funny that those were the first characters revealed for the new KI. I did my first Ultra combo with Sabrewulf, and stuck with him ever since. After playing Ki so long, it actually took me a while to readjust to charge moves in SF, because I had gotten so used to charging with both forwards and backwards.

My brother was weird though. He barely played fighting games, but somehow he became wicked good with Jago in KI. Like, he dissected the game, knew how his normals worked, was doing combo breakers everywhere, and not even mashing anything. For some reason though, he just couldn't carry that skill into any other fighting game. He'd play as Ryu in SF...yeah RYU...and he could barely even manage to do a fireball! I'd tell him, "Just pretend that guy's a barefoot Jago!" but it didn't seem to matter. I think he and Jago just had some strange mystical bond!

My favorite character in SNES KI was Cinder.

...Yeah, I know he was a scrub favorite but hey, I was 6 back then and I freaking loved mashing combos in Practice Mode.

I think Cinder got killed by Glacius. How did they explain Thunder not being in again?

Sabrewulf became a 'drug addict' in a nutshell that self-harmed his own body due to depression.

I usually played Spinal in the original KI since he could shape-shift into the opponent for a sec or two when in combo, teleport and I loved his laugh of blood-lust insanity when he won. In KI 2, I started playing Orchid more cause I she switched from the Kali sticks to Tonfas, which appealed to me, but I wasn't that good.

Cinder is a man made of fire, so DH could probably just use his powers as an excuse to bring him back, kinda like a Dr. Manhattan thing. It might be kinda cool if he seemed less human as a result, like he's still piecing himself back together while he fights. I dunno, we'll see what they do.

The only canon victory stuff I remember is Glacius beating Cinder and Orchid winning the tournament. Since Thunder's still looking for Eagle, that means DH probably isn't pulling anything from the comics. If I recall though, both the comic and canon plot suggested that Orchid, Jago, and Thunder were the only "good guy" characters in the first story. If that's the case, then that means so far all of KI's "heroes" are really pissed off in the new game, which is kinda cool.

I'm as big a fan of KI as Max or Mike Z, and the game is shaping up really well, but it being on the Xbone means I'll sadly have to skip out on it.

Hope the impossible happens and we see a PS4 release someday.

Especially Jago lol. Tiger screwed him over enough that made him rip his shirt off in anger.

lol, and then he forgot he still had all of those tiger tattoos, so now he's even MORE angry! The guy just can't catch a break. He probably keeps wearing the mask so he can hide his whisker implants!

I think Jago is pretty damn cool looking in this game. I was never really a fan of a lot of the 90's designs, but Jago actually looks pretty badass now.

DH talking favorably about the idea of guest characters.

Will it happen?

I've always loved this series and Orchid is my favorite character. Sadly the sequel being XBONE only means I'll either have to bum some casuals at meet-ups or even worse cave and buy a console when the price fall so I can bask in Orchid's new found Tomb Raider-esque glory.

Only problems are, which one? and, who owns Battletoads?

My favorite characters are Orchid and Fulgore. Orchid because she can turn into a tiger and her design was awesome. I liked all the characters though because I knew at least one person who was a beast with that character.

PS: I thought that Battletoad character was real. I was so close to actually walking over to GameStop to pre-order an Xbox One.

Yo, forget the Toads! How 'bout that Dark Queen!? Omg most underrated evil babe in the biz. All she has to do is warp her opponents into the Turbo Tunnel and they're done!!!

Looks too much like Jessica Rabbit after a dip in a pool of oil.

Yeah, she's not the craziest design, but she gets the job done. Managed to scare more kids away from a game cartridge than Dracula ever could.

She would work better as a new color for Sadira.

Y'know, instead of using up slots, that's probably how they could handle Rare/M$ cameos if they wanted. Joanna and Juno would be fine palettes for Orchid. I think Riptor actually had a Battletoads palette before, and a Master Chief palette for Fulgore would be easy enough. Piñata colors for everyone might be kinda funny too.

And then of course you could have alt outfits. A Kameo outfit for Orchid would make sense, Kuros could be an armored alt for Tusk, Cinder could have a Splosion Man alt, Spinal could have some Ghoulies outfits, and Jago could have a Fable/Lost Odyssey alt or something. Combo and Glacius would fit right into some GoW alts, although they could probably just give those to everyone anyway.

*sigh* I just wish Banjo & Kazooie could be in Smash. I've always wanted them to show up somewhere, but I just can't see them in KI. Maybe Conker and Banjo themed stages could work.

I only played Arcade ROMs of of KI1 and KI2 on MAME briefly because I found Fulgore to be cool. Is there anyway to play those 2 games online like in GGPO?

Conker could work as a guest character(but they may have to get a new VA as the old one makes fun of new rare and xbox on his youtube channel) and unlike banjo is already from a a game where blood is abundant and there is no need for them to be just cameos of other rare properties, KI only has 15 characters plus the new one they just made season three and four could have some rare characters appear which I think a lot of people would enjoy and will give them more time to develop new character ideas.

I am indifferent to this game at the moment the original reveal and the EVO matches made me disinterested with newer builds its starting to get back in my mind but it really has nothing that makes it stand out from other fighters besides its old mechanics. Plus being an xbox one exclusive means I am never going to get it unless microsoft feels generous and pulls an alan wake on us.

What has me worried is how will current 360 arcade sticks work on the Xbone, ive heard they're not compatible, so how long until adaptors are released for them?
