Third Strike is my favorite video game ever.

EarthBound is my favorite single player experience ever.

Melee is my favorite "nostalgia" game ever.

Top 5 would be something like...

1. 3s
2. EB
3. Melee
4. MVC2
5. Luigis Mansion

Honorable mentions would be NBA Street Vol 2, Super Mario Sunshine, F-Zero X, LM Dark Moon, Pokemon RBY and DPP preferably but I love them all.

Yo we got a Gen 2 kid? Me too! I love my pokemon Crystal meth.

um other games that i like are Shantae, Beyond Good and Evil, and uh Civ 3.

I really enjoy "roguelikish" games. Like Binding of Isaac, Nuclear Throne, Dungeons Of Dredmor and of course Nethack.
The Mother/Earthbound series are some of my favorite games. I'm stuck between Earthbound and Mother 3 as the best though.
Fallout 2 was a masterpiece and anyone who hasn't played it and enjoys the Fallout Universe should.
When I get a new PC I'm going to be playing Fonline2 which is a fan made MMO of Fallout 2.
When it comes to Strategy games it would be Crusader Kings 2. Given that the Crusades are my favorite time in history a game where you relive the thing is pretty rad.

1. Fire Emblem Awakening
2. Dark Souls
3. Warlock 2: The Exiled

I'm mostly interested in single player games with nice art and story.
-Psychonauts
-First Rayman series (mostly R3)
-Medievil
-Duke Nukem series

-Conker's bad fur day
-Disney Hercules
-Grim Fandango, the Neverhood and too many other point-and-click adventures

A while back, one my friends asked us to list our fav games for each platform we played, which was fun. For some consoles I could manage a #1 pick, but I usually had to go with a 2 or 3 way tie. Others I was too undecided on (PS2 & PC in particular), so I just left them out. Here's the abridged:

Atari 2600 - Cookie Monster Munch
NES - Legend of Zelda / Megaman 3 / Bucky O' Hare
Sega Master System - Golden Axe Warrior
Game Boy - Mario Land 2 / Mega Man V / Radar Mission
Sega Genesis - Sonic 3 & Knuckles / Rocket Knight Adventures / Streets of Rage 2
SNES - Megaman X / Chrono Trigger
Virtual Boy - Teleroboxer
PSX - Vandal Hearts
Sega Saturn - Street Fighter Alpha 2 / Guardian Heroes
N64 - Super Smash Bros. / Starfox 64
Sega Dreamcast - Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
Game Boy Advance - Metroid Fusion / Megaman Zero 2
Gamecube - Super Smash Bros. Melee / Metroid Prime / F-Zero GX
Wii - Megaman 10 (& Project M if you count that)
Morgan Freeman Entertainment System - Glory's Dreamland / Karting Ms. Daisy

There are waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many to mention. I'm something of a connoisseur of arcade style action games, so I could probably list like 40+ platformers, shmups, hack and slash, etc. if I sat down to it.

Some notable games from various genres off the top of my head in no particular order:

Odin Sphere, The Guardian Legend, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Phantasy Star Online 2, Cho Ren Sha 68k, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Bayonetta, Rayforce, Contra 3, Ghouls and Ghosts, Super Mario Bros 3, Touhou 10: Mountain of Faith, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, Vampire Savior, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Castlevania 1, G-Darius, Final Fantasy VI, Eschatos, Fighters History Dynamite: Karnov's Revenge, Chrono Trigger, Crimzon Clover, Rayforce, Darius Gaiden, Rogue Legacy, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Alundra.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky, will probably be on this list by the time I'm through with it.

Every Kirby game ever. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I really love how unexpectedly violent feeling the animations for some of the hat attacks are in Super Star, the way the camera and the sprites are jerked around like a hyperactive kid playing with toys. Kirby just thrashes monsters in that game. Kirby is manlier than Captain Falcon IMO.

Megaman X2 - I like a lot of the Megaman games but this one's my favorite. It's hard to say exactly why... somehow no matter how many times I replayed it, it still felt fresh. I've thought about trying to speedrun it but the speedrun for this game involves a lot of 1 frame tricks and man I don't have time for that.

City of Heroes - Played this all the time in my college years. Really liked the character creation in this game, both in terms of the costumes it let you make and in picking super powers for your man that complemented one another well (sort of like making teams in Skullgirls or other versus games, come to think of it).

Ancient Domains of Mystery - The other game I played nonstop during college. Like CoH I really liked the character creation in this. Like a lot of roguelikes it's extremely punishing, but the really punishing stuff is all towards the beginning of the game. Later in the game things get a bit more consistent although the threat of permadeath is still there so you need to keep playing sharp. I also like the combination of random elements with instanced elements; the puppy cave is always in the same place every time and always has a puppy in it, but the actual layout of the cave is different every time. A version with graphics has been approved on Steam Greenlight so I'm excited for when that comes out.

There's a lot of other games I've played and enjoyed obviously but those are the big ones that come to mind.

Super Metroid, pretty free. It's just "the perfect game" in pretty much every aspect.
People know I'm rather nitpicky on rather everything, but there are very very few things I'd do differently on SM, so hey!

There are a bunch of other really good or even 'perfect' games (such as eg KotoR, Journey, VVVVVV) but SM towers so far and away above them that they can't scrape even the bottom of the list

Since it wasn't just listed as "Video Games" I'll name Chess as well, but I'm aware that this isn't what you're asking for.

E: Okay, I will pass an honorary mention to Tetris.

The 'Uncharted' Series
Silent Hill 1, 2, 3
Resident Evil 1, 2, and Code Veronica
Tomba!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts for SNES

oh so many more but those come to mind first

Megaman X2 - I like a lot of the Megaman games but this one's my favorite. It's hard to say exactly why... somehow no matter how many times I replayed it, it still felt fresh.

The magic of good level design!

I think it's because the levels in x2 are really excellently paced and designed. All of them are very varied (new enemy types to deal with, very different terrain to deal with, etc.), and absurdly fast paced. The game almost feels designed to be speed runned, because the stages are just perfectly balanced around constantly moving forward and blasting enemies as fast as possible. There's very rarely any place in the game where you just have to come to a halt and beat up some dudes to progress forward, instead you blast them while constantly dashing and wall jumping forward.

X1 might have the aesthetic advantage (first of the series, very iconic, has the classic "Zero sacrifices himself" set up), but X2 is the best designed of the X series methinks. Maybe only 4 is on the same tier.

Oh, I forgot to add Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. If I was forced to be stuck on a island and had the choice of only playing one game for the rest of my life, it would be this. I could honestly replay it multiple times and never get bored.
