[Mashes Merry-Go-Rilla]
[Accidentally Dashes Backward]
ECH.

I don’t know how this diary thing goes, alrighty, so let’sdothisshit.
Yes, I’m DudetteDesigns, and yes, mashing Bella’s lvl.3 is my free ticket out of a combo almost 99.9% of the time.

The team I want to get good with is Parasoul / Bella / Squigly in that par-tic-tacular order.
Assists go as the following: Napalm Pillar, LNL [H] / Excellebella / Cerecopter, Ashes To Ashes [s.HP]
Need help deciding which Bella assist is best, call 911 please.
I’d like to learn Eliza in the future so I can have an ElizaBella team.

My Bella is above my Parasoul and Squigly skill-wise. Since I backed the beta, I mainly played her. The thing is that I wanted to make a team, but I didn’t know which character(s) I wanted.
So I just learned to combo with each one, and now my work is all over the place. It’s sloppy, messy, whatever you want to call it. I have plenty of combos for these three, but my problem is execution against another players as well as getting in to start the combo.

I suck mainly against Peacock, Fukua, Big Band, and Painwheel + completely wrekt against good Filias + Doubles. Typically I can handle the rest of the cast.
Then I get bodied by god-tier players no matter what they’re playing, bUT THAT’S NOT THE POint.
Point being I don’t know how to deal with zoning, grabs/tech in general, and weird-ass mix-ups (PW + Filiass stop pls). Those are my main problems.
I actually probably have a lot of problems that I don’t know about, and I just need to find them. u_u"

What I know I really need to work on is:

Parasoul
- More unexpected mix-ups
- Abuse napalm way more, I hardly use it.
- Utilizing Spiral Flare, floating with j.MK, Egret Call/Charge, Detonate
- Countering other Parasoul’s j.HP
- Getting past solid Peacock defense pls.

Cerebella
- Confirming off an air grab, how do you people do that pls. I don’t know how much time I spend in training trying to get it, I just never can do it.
- Utilizing command grabs
- More Tumble Runs and properly confirming off Kanchou
- Chaining from HP into Pummel Horse, ‘cause that would help a lot.
- More reset options beside Merry-Go-Rilla every five seconds

Squigly
- Expand on Seria combos
- Dealing with Fukua; this is probably the character I absolutely cannot handle her with.
- Reset options beside grab and Falling Woman [L] fake-out

The Team Itself
- Properly incorporate assists within combos for more damage
- Rely a bit more on assists and stop trying to always use one character. It’s a team for a reason, and I can’t seem to keep that in mind.
- Stop making stupid assist calls and being caught in Happy Birthday
- Use assists for mix-up advantage (ex.: Squigly’s s.HP while Parasoul does a c.LK on the other side)
- Learn how to keep corner pressure up with assists popping in every two seconds

I don’t really know what else to put. If someone does actually want to fight and help me out a bit, add me or message me? Nowadays, I can only fight on weekends, so you’d have to wait until then.
Yes, I’ve read a lot of threads on all three of them. I would really, really, really appreciate tips for what I’m doing right/wrong in a match and how I can improve.
And tips on how to survive against other cast members. ;___;

Also to the side is my Valentine/Parasoul team.

Parasoul

Improved with mix-ups and resets. Work on utilizing Napalm tears a bit more.
Don’t be afraid to back up and zone or call in an assist to keep distance; get better neutral game and stop jumping into battle.
Work on double-snaps.

Valentine

Stop mashing out Acquisitive/Countervenom and wasting two bars; do not even resort to it unless it’s a finishing super.
Learn to mix-up and reset using j.HP and other moves. Be quick, she’s fast for a reason.
Use Dead Cross a little bit more, it wouldn’t hurt.
Grab are important in order to get good damage; use them.
Learn resets using j.LK.
Learn to properly continue a combo after QCF + PP > adc > j.MP.
Work on double-snaps.

Cerebella

Improved a lot with grabs and other things. Finally learned to confirm off airgrab.
Utilize Deflector. If I’m not gonna Diamond Dynamo after Diamond Drop, start using Tumble Run to catch up.
Battle Butt is useful against Big Band when they keep using Giant Step or Brass Knuckles.
Work on double-snaps.

Squigly

Stop mashing Daisy Pusher. Be more careful after Center Stage Seria, and stop immediately using Battle Opera if they’re too close.
Seria cancel combos improved.
Find out how to trigger the infinite using Falling Woman [LK] in the second air sequence.
Jump around more and start charging both of your Serias in a quick manner.

Overall

Start fighting against people who are above your skill level so you can actually receive help.

Gurl Mash your controller until it is mashed potatoes.

but then i’ll end up like the guy who wrekt his fight stick

I think I have useful advice against countering other Parasouls' J.hp.

j.lp > J.mp (depending on the char and how high they are up in the air) > j.hp

:D
...
......

It works for me, so...yeah.

That’s probably better than a j.LP > j.HP.

  • Val's lvl2 isn't worth mashing out. It's designed as something to turn the tides against predictable players. I find it good against Squigly players that love to divekick. If you do have to mash out something, mash EKG. And since you're doing a Val/Parasoul team, if you have 2 meters to waste, you can always dhc into bikes.
  • Val's resets are essentially cross ups, and low/throw setups.
  • air dead cross is essential to neutral game. Stops over-eager filias and whatnot. you can also follow up with an air jump and/or air dash to keep pressure. Be wary of Big Band tho.
  • j.lk isn't so much a reset in itself. You can do air combo > adc j.lk and you'll cross them under, but that's just about it. Otherwise it can be used as a crossup jump in and be followed up with a grab or a low.
  • Val's double snap is easy. Launch, j.hp adc j.hp, *land* s.lp c.hp, j.hp adc j.hp....

I mostly only use the lvl.2s on predictable players, and that’s it. Even then, sometimes I manage to mess it up.

Versus ScabbyTheAloof

Bella

- Airgrabs still exist. Keep using them every now and then.
- Runstop resets, also cute c.lk > c.mk reset.
- ROCKS.
- Using a smaller combo instead of your regular BNB is okay. Try to work with it.

Parasoul

- Way more Napalm Abuse. Keep pressure steady with napalm tears/shot + Cerecopter or Squigly assist.
- Float around more w/ j.MK.
- Stop using the same reset option if it's not working (so be careful with Spiral Flare).
- More reversals like Napalm Pillar into Egret Brigade.

Squigly

- Continue using Center Stage (possibly into lk+mk SSBO), helped catch Parasoul during Napalm Shot multiple times.
- More Fallen Woman fake-outs after the end of the combo; seemed to be working well.
- Stop mashing Daisy Pusher; caught multiple times after he Diamond Drop'd or Merry-Go-Rilla'd.
- JUMP AROUND MORE WITH DIVEKICK OR J.HK.

OVERALL TEAM

- Improved w/ relying on assists just a tiny bit. Continue working on it.
- Improved w/ snapback, even if it was just for a moment.
- Parasoul reset: abruptly stopping and into Ashes To Ashes assist, worked well. Use it more often.
- Cerebella's Cerecopter is good for your neutral game.

Note to self.

From "Cerebella Combo Collection" thread ~

Try kanchou combos

c.lk, c.mp, s.hp, kanchou,
c.mk,
j.mp, j.hk,
s.hp, pummel horse,
c.mp, c.hp,
j.lp(mash), j.hp,
s.lpx2, s.mp, s.hk, cerecopter, dynamo

universal 8.8k

More notes for myself.

Pretty fucking helpful video regarding Filia resets.

Notes to self.

Main team from now on to forever is Cerebella/Double with [H] LnL/[M] Bomber. Doesn't make too much sense for Doubleboo to be anchor, but it works most of the time.
Main team BnB is Pummel Horse setup.
Looking to possibly add Eliza to team, but if not, stick to a duo.
Work on protecting Double during neutral game.
Learn Cere resets/burst baits.
Learn new neutral game tricks for Eliza.
Neutral game for Double is okay; make sure to protect Bella w/ Luger or something else.

The key to salt prevention is the possession of apathy.

lol i suck

I went against Fenster several times in QM with Solobella because I figured using Double at that time would be a bad idea, but that's beside the point.
The point is that I suck at reading resets. :^)
Holy shit, I need more Solobella pressure. All I use is Titan Knuckle and LnL, I need to use j.HK/j.HP more.
I also need to learn new resets for Bella besides runstopping and Kanchou, but I can never seem to remember them when I learn them.

RIP me

I can't beat Fenster either FWIW

fml, usually i pick up on the same resets when other people use them.
for some reason, i can't pick up on them when fenster uses them.

Oh, you were that Darubisshu-Yu person. As far as neutral, I don't remember everything, but *I think* you started to go into patterns into upback when on the defensive that was easy to read, and you didn't approach too much from the air when you should've tried some more jLK/jMP/jHPs when you were close. I also think I could upback out of most combos and approaches since I don't remember you going for any tight low resets (could also be misremembering that). I'm always free to play so we could just have a set on steam if you want to practice.

As for the resets thing, I don't remember the matches that well, but I definitely remember feeling by the end of our last match that your defenses against even the Basic Parasoul bHKs I was doing was getting worse. Could've been nerves in a tight situation, so maybe just stay on the lookout for Parasoul overheads?

I can't beat Fenster either FWIW

You had some Vodka already and weren't teleporting at all though. I think if all you did was that one Peacock reset thats just ground string xx teleport + assist (that I think you used to use when you had squiggly on your team?) I'd get bodied 10-0 everytime by that ._.

or just play fukua, I can't play against her at all

You may be right, maybe I should try to run it back when I'm sober. btw I can't really teleport crossup with assists with this team. I'm trying not to rely on that too much anyways since it's going away.

My nerves were getting worse because I had been fighting for a few hours straight. I just became run down in general; I was scared to do more jumping hits because I never could tell if you were going to grab or something else.

I'm seeing a slight improvement in my Bella neutral and resets. Still need to learn a few new burst baits, but I don't really know where to find any new ones except Dragonos's video.
Trying to work on just playing Double and Bella individually. If I know how to function and fight with one of them and know how to utilize every attack they have, I would probably be able to make my team function much better.

Looking back into a third member, but I'm not sure who to look into. Painwheel, Fukua, Valentine, and Big Band are on my "Absolutely Not" list.

I don't know how I ended up reading this thread, but it looks like good timing.

Runstop resets are all you need, except if you find team setups (can't help you with such a filthy thing).

Bella burst baits are never worth to go for, except if you want humiliate a newbie that doesn't know about them. They are easy to see coming, often leaves you at a disadvantage/with limited options if the opponent doesn't burst, most of them are airborne so most chars don't have any reason to mash, ground ones are rare and require precise setups I didn't really take time to study yet (position/character specifism all over the place, yay), and she has no 50/50 grab/BB mix ups (that's a lie, I know there's a possibility, I should really check some day when I'm done being depressed).

Damn that post was useless.

okaygood
because
i really didn't want to learn any burstbaits tbh
if i need them really bad or whatever, i bring double out because i can consistently bait with her
But thanks for the advice.

trying to pick up PW
i'm slightly scared

You already play Double, right? Painwheel is sort of like playing a Double that has other buttons in addition to j.HP and c.LK. It's fun times

I suck so hard with PW ;____;
also dropped Double

I mean, what are you having trouble with? Combos, resets, neutral, defense?

Neutral and defense. What exactly do you do in the corner, and how do you establish pressure?

As far as neutral goes I kinda feel like once you've gotten them to block anything you're in good shape, since you can fly cancel whatever they blocked and then go for a billion more mixups. Painwheel's a hard character to pushblock, too, since everything she does it multi hitting and she can bait pushblocks easily by fly cancelling whatever multi hitting thing she just did right before they pushblock. Good moves to try to make them block are like, j.MP (super disjointed, beats most other buttons if you space it right), j.HP (the armor on this is good if you think they're gonna push a button), j.HK (if you're directly above them), or H Nail (from far away, fly cancel this immediately, follow the nail in and do j.MP).

Being in the corner with Painwheel blows so hard that it has its own thread: http://skullgirls.com/forums/index.php?threads/painwheel-stuck-in-the-corner-what2do.505/

thanks for the advice uwu
also i suck at airdash mix-ups as filia because i'm not fast enough on this d-pad ;___;

You don't button dash?

I tried it, and it felt too weird, so I didn't bother with it after that.
I guess I could give it another whirl.

Trying to settle down with a team again; Parasoul, Bella, Filia.
My Parasoul neutral is getting better, I just need to continue improving on transitioning from Tear Toss > Napalm Shot > Detonate. It's really helping me create some space. Tossing Filia out every now and then w/ Updo also helps, baits people out and lets me detonate to protect her.
Working on Bella synergy combo; going from s.hk > assist call > Pummel is a bit difficult just because Pillar and Updo move their character a pretty far ways away, and it also has a stingy timing.
Working on Filia mix-ups. Button-dashing is helping me reset much easier than double-tapping on the pad. Need to work on neutral game with her.
I need to play against someone; I keep trying to ask Twerk on the weekend, but when I'm online while he is, I'm either streaming, in another game, or sometimes he isn't even online.
Need to learn Painwheel/Fortune match-up.
Need to work on dealing with Peacock while playing Parasoul; might try to fight Peanuts at some point.

not feeling confident in filia at all, but i don't know how else i'll learn to work with her besides using her more often in fight. she certainly doesn't need to be my anchor, i can't rely on her like i sometimes can w/ para or bella.
i think i'm too twitchy to play this character, but i really want to learn her. this is sad, in my opinion, because she's claimed to be the easiest character to learn.
yet i can't learn her and adjust to her fast movements, and when i sort of advance with her, everyone else's sorta one step ahead of me.
this is the first time i've really felt genuinely shitty over how i play. i'm teetering on the brink of giving up completely. i don't even feel comfortable in my own skin playing parasoul or bella, and i've played them the most out of all the characters.
i just don't feel myself going anywhere at this point, not with the team, but with the game in general.
welp.

Sounds to me like you're going through a plateau, which everyone goes through. I'm awful at explaining stuff like this, but here's a chart:
worker.jpg

Essentially it's the hard things to push past in life, where it seems like you've been stagnant for a while and you haven't made much improvement. There's tons of articles online and other people can probably explain it better, but it's completely normal (and frustrating.) The only real advice I can give you is to stick with it, and try to go out of your comfort zone little by little.

Speaking from the experience of us playing against each other: your Parasoul and Bella are good (I honestly can't remember the third character you played, I just remember it was a new character for you. Maybe Fortune?)

Don't give up! At the most take a short break of a few days to a week, it can help you get a new perspective and get rid of some frustration.

it was fortune, and i came to the conclusion that though i enjoyed playing as her, i didn't feel like she fit on the team.
i'm always spending weeks or days away from this game at a time; i have breaks so often.
what i notice is that i do come back from breaks and my mind isn't as cluttered; my neutral game improves after breaks before slowly deteriorating again.
i guess i could try filia as a second character instead of my anchor. i'd probably be more comfortable with bella in her place.

what i notice is that i do come back from breaks and my mind isn't as cluttered; my neutral game improves after breaks before slowly deteriorating again.
How much time do you generally spend playing during a week that you're not taking a break? Could possibly be burn out?

How much time do you generally spend playing during a week that you're not taking a break? Could possibly be burn out?

three hours a day? even then, aside from friday, saturday, and sunday, i can only really play during the week on tuesdays????
some of it's in the lab, some's in lobbies.

Doesn't sound like burn out in that case. It's easy for me to say "don't get discouraged," but I know how little that helps.

But if it makes you any better, I also have issues with playing "faster" characters like Filia, Val, and Fortune. I'm sort of just muscling through learning Val, but it is harder for me than Bella, Big Band, or Parasoul were to learn. I think that we all may have our own specific mentalitys that we bring to fighting games and it's hard for us to break away from our inherent mindset. For example, whenever I try playing keepaway I'll throw like two fireballs, then find myself running into their face again haha.

Is the main cause of your frustrations your difficulty in learning Filia, difficulty in getting results that you're looking for from the game, or something else?

Also, I do not agree that Filia is the easiest character to learn for everyone, as I said before airdashers fuck with my head.

Not many seem to understand that it doesn't really help, but I appreciate the faith you put in me nonetheless.

It's not even necessarily combos. I have several BnBs that get good damage and have good reset points. I'm sort of caught in the mentality that to be a good Filia player, you have to be flashy (and that's against my better judgement, tbh; I know that's truly not the case). I have no idea what to do regarding neutral game. If I try to j.HP and deal damage from a fair distance, either their attack has a bigger hitbox, or I find myself being randomly supered mid-airdash. The only neutral game I am able to work with is airdashing with j.MP and keeping a distance with Ringlet Spike, but that's not all there is to it, is it? How do Filia players manage to get up in everyone's face? I certainly can't.

Also, I do not agree that Filia is the easiest character to learn for everyone, as I said before airdashers fuck with my head.

I suppose "easy" depends on the player. Let me at least say this: a majority of the people I meet claim she is the easiest, but I always disagreed because I'm so used to Bella and Para that I think they're the easiest. That's definitely not the case for everyone.

SNIP
Filia is the easiest character to fuck people up with resets as every single button and such has a use for a reset.

HOWEVER neutral is the hard with her and you got to learn how to use your airdash and how to press your buttons otherwise you can and will be whacked.

To get into people's face once you play me (if ever) the way i get in is by using TK L hairball and then an air dash. thats one way i get in.

I use this sometimes, but I feel awkward when I try to do it outside of a spam match. I guess I just need to use it more.
