Evo 2015 salt

Apparently the WC should be getting cabinets or something somewhere, I don't know.

Still dumb.
Those arcades who decide to buy a T7 cab will probably close down from the cost of importing the things, because it's definitely gonna be really expensive.

I'm no stranger to cynicism, but really.

@all the "did you really expect SG to be main game wow wow" people

People probably didn't expect it, but they express their disappointment/sadness because they had their hopes and dreams. And that's good, we should be glad that they did, not belittle it. I for one definitely prefer that over "SG is dead" self-fulfilling prophecy threads.

I mean, while I knew it wasn't going to get in, I also thought about how incredibly awesome it would've been to be... pleasantly surprised. I had the Stevie Wonder Part Time Skullgirls video loaded and ready to go and everything. Mr. Wizard's "...we've never done anything like THIS before!" really had me going for a good minute. And then P4AU happened. And I was brought back to reality.

Don't get me wrong,
I get being disappointed in the result, I'm a little disappointed too, I was hoping and will continue to hope the SG will eventually get enough recognition to join the lineup.
That was more a response to people who were surprised by the result moreso than those who were disappointed by it.

@Muro I think the salt is more over the argument that the organizers use for SG not being a main game due to its initial release being close to EVO. For them to say that and then later allowing new games to be main games rubs SG people the wrong way. I know that there plenty of reasons not mentioned for why that was the case, but the reason they gave us was not valid.

smash 4 and melee? i can't anymore....

UNIEL hasn't been released in NA and EU so it being side tournament is expected. It still blew Persona out of the water at NEC though. Shit, it took Melty five years to hit 120 people at EVOLUTION but it took UNIEL five months to pass that number at NEC.
Stop. T7 wont be out in those regions either. Evo game selection is just whatever they feel like. Community couldve provided the copies if they wanted UNIEL there.

Really, really disappointing that UNIEL didn't get in but P4U did. The fact that UNIEL has gotten the numbers it has without even sporting an english release is evident to how large it could be at EVO.

I would very much like to see the numbers outside of its first major and NEC. Because outside of those 2 I don't think UNIEL actually does as well as people think?

SG it's first year had really strong numbers too as far as I know and it wasn't a main game at EVO that year so its probably them wanting to just get the bigger name games out there instead of the game that does well but is still kinda not super popular. dunnooo

That, or they got paid. Which seems to happen distressingly often.

Well besides NEC, The Fall Classic, and Summer Jam there haven't been too many majors. NEC had well over a hundred. Fall Classic had 38. Summer Jam had over 60, I think closer to like 80 but I was too lazy to add all the pool numbers from challonge.

It's also worth noting that all three of these events were east coast majors. UNIEL is HUGE in NorCal. Not sure if Socal is still into that game, but the combined presence of both scenes I think is more than enough to make it main game status.

But it is understandable that three same coast events isn't enough to judge the consistency of UNIEL's turnout. It has pulled better entrants than Killer Instinct at every event mentioned above, which apparently is enough to make KI a main game. I think UNIEL was just released at an awkward time, since it was right after EVO and there hasn't been enough time to judge whether or not it is lasting. From the three most important majors from the latter end of 2014 it did fairly well.

EDIT: Fixed all of my typos lol. Hate my phone.

The list is decent, though I don't know why 2 Smash Bros games got in. If I remember correctly, Melee was a huge time sink last year. I don't know how they are going to balance that on the schedule, but hey Guilty Gear and Persona got in so I can't complain.

Smash draws a LOT of fucking entrants. Melee doesn't really need an introduction. Smash 4 has a sizable competitive community + the Melee players who will enter it attempting to get free money.

The last KC monthly, we had around 70 people there, and the UNIEL setup lasted maybe 2 hours. No one signed up to play and the casual setup eventually turned into something else. +R, 3S, and SG all had more play time than UNIEL

Yup, we'll run tournaments for any game that gets enough entrants, and UNIEL hasn't had one since it came out, because the people that always talk about how its the best shit since sliced bread never show up to play it.

People who talk up UNIEL are the same people who don't show up to locals or monthlys it seems.
Sounds familiar....

Haha, yupppp

edit: About Smash, yes having two Smash games is weird. However Nintendo is involved with EVO as a sponsor now, and a 14 year old game that was released two console generations ago is not getting them any new sales or publicity. Smash 4 accomplishes that. So having both Melee and Smash 4 appeases both Nintendo and the Melee audience that is both MASSIVE and draws huge numbers and thinks Smash 4 is hot garbage.

So yeah, as much as it sucks to have two games in the same franchise picked over other stuff, I understand why it was done.

Having 2 smash games isn't weird... They will both pull far more entrants than most of the other main games. The only games I can see getting more entrants are Ultra and perhaps MvC3 if it is less dead there than it is here...

It will also get ridiculous amounts of viewers.

The 2 are as different as Ultra to Xrd anyway. Hell, they are as different as MKX to UMvC3

Its kind of absurd people think UMvC3 is dead with how many entrants it still draws. I mean, its less popular than it was, but dead?

Everyone's new years resolution should be to stop saying games are dead and go out to tournaments and support the games you like. :)

Many people hate UMvC 3 for being broken. But I think is good having this game on the roster because it never fails to bring the Hype. Too bad I probably won't be able to watch SG side tournament.

What's gonna be said to replace that? Gamers are dead?

Anyway, I think there's a bit of disconnect between the people who say Mahvel is dead and the ones who say it's not dead. I think a game's status of "life' depends on more than just how many people go to majors to play it and how many people watch it, but also how many newbies get to the big leagues and how much new stuff is developed over time. Mahvel 3 may not be dead, but it is definitely dying because the same people keep playing each other at majors and almost nobody's willing to break out of their x-factor TAC infinite habits and try to make something new out of an almost 4 year old game.

Fall Classic had like 40, Summer Jam 80+, NEC 110+, Canada Cup had 32, Cali locals get like 30!
Can't really think of any other events?? You can judge if it is doing well or not.

I think this is a reply to me. I live in Australia, Marvel is pretty dead here. That's why I said if it as dead as here....

Skullgirls gets more consistent players offline than Marvel here, true story

Can we just stop talking about gameplay of UMVC3? You guys are making my head hurt xP

Also yeah UMVC3 isn't "dead" by any means.

If were going by those type of standards than LITERALLY EVERY fighting game is dead except SF4 and Melee, and maaaybe Smash 4.

What a beautiful place!

Remove melee and add marvel 2 or sf3, or ggac+r.

Come on, the hypest moments in EVO history (and many of its related memes) came from these 2 games!

Side tourney gets a proper stream of at least top 16 or lower and im satisfied. ..

Hi my name is Hilary and I like to use the term "Mahvel" unironically while arguing that a game is dead because top players are really good and said game is also dead because optimal strategies exist in the meta.

Considering how many side tournaments are possible this year none of the side tournaments are getting top 16 unless a stream strictly for said game lets it happen. I can see us getting top 8 though thanks to Madcatz, top 16 would be REALLY surprising. Only reason we were supposed to get top 16 last year was because we were basically the ONLY side tournament, now with BB, UNIEL, KOF, etc they'll be pretty busy so top 8 works for me.

Obviously top 16 would be the shit though.

skull girls certainly goes fast enough , top 16 would be neat

Persona over Blazblue was a surprise, but a pleasant surprise. More surprised how there was a 2nd anime game at all for main lineup.

Would prefer DoA 5 LR over T7 arcade as a main event spot. UNiB should have also took one of the Smash game spots. Sad no KoF XIII because I was never disappointed to seeing top 8.

Was this posted yet in regard of another year without main game SG?

Compared to other big genres (FPS, MOBA, etc), every fighting game is dead :P

So, what you're saying, is that instead of EVO I should go to Blizzcon or Quakecon?
