Evo 2015 salt

So, what you're saying, is that instead of EVO I should go to Blizzcon or Quakecon?

I've wanted to go to QuakeCon for YEARS because I play arena shooters like a self respecting adult man and all the bums around here play PC wise is fucking Dota. Go to Quakecon with me Alex, there's a new Unreal Tournament I want to go so bad.

I live in the city Quakecon happens =D I missed it last year and I actually hope to goto it this year =3 Always wanted to go!

Don't be tooooo greedy yo. The people who run the side stream are really nice to have us on their stream so we can show off our game. Be glad with anything we get!

Or Lab Zero could just release all of the beta changes as a new game and charge us full price. It works for ArcSys every 6 months.

They could call it Ultra Skullgirls 2.0 Extend!

While my sarcasm went unappreciated, that is kind of what I meant.

It seems crazy to me that P4U is getting a second chance (and main stage at EVO) while SG still carries the baggage of vanilla. But the changes and characters added to SG are immense relative to beta.

The vast majority of criticisms (combos are too long, not enough characters, no male characters, etc.) have been settled. Hell, the changes in beta relative to live are pretty freaking massive themselves.

The reason Persona got in over Uniel

1) wait, shit.
2) uhhh.
3) ???

Also take it to the Evo salt thread!

Title change would be cool yes but encore was our chance and we/they/God/everyone blew it.
Don't think we'll get another shot unless Robo update comes with name change.

Does UNIEL have more players than P4U? P4U is actually weathering Xrd's launch fairly well.

Also, two Smash on main stage seem to excite only Smash players. Everyone else... not so much. While there is almost certainly nuance and pacing differences between the two, it is lost on a lot of people who are casual watchers.

I'll almost certainly end up watching some of EVO, but I'm a lot less vested in this one despite being a big fan of both P4U and Xrd (probably the only two main stage events I'll watch).

it came out for everyone JUST last year. how can Ultimax get a second chance when it didn't have a first one?

and the Arena Evo was hype. seeing Mitsuru get dethroned in finals by Aigis was epic.

Because P4U is really just a rebalanced P4A with a handful of new characters. Like I said, SG is in effectively the same situation if SG had the nerve to charge us full price for the beta changes, Squigly, BB, Robo-MF, Eliza, and Beo.

Don't get me wrong, I really love the game. I don't play much SG these days and all my time goes into Xrd and P4U... but it really is just getting a second go-round.

with as much that was added into Ultimax, it's more than just characters, it's safe to say it was a better iteration. like going from second impact into third strike or something along those lines.

it is not the same situation as Chronophantasma to Chronophantasma extend or whatever they're calling it.

As someone who played Ultimax regularly, it was more then a simple rebalance patch and 'handful' of new characters.
Changes from top of head [so I might have missed some stuff] from first Arena to> Ultimax

- 'Shadow' playstyle [tourney legal] being added which noticeably changes how you would approach when picking certain characters.
- 'Unlimited' playstyle [obviously banned] added if you wanted to play the SA incarnations.
- New Stages
- New Music [A shit load of them to be specific]
- New UI
- More Navigators [Like one for nearly all the playable characters now as opposed to the handful before]
- New Story Modes
- Big character rebalance
- Better Lobby System
- New specials/supers/animations to existing characters
- Golden Arena Mode
- Game mechanic changes/additions
- and of course the addition of I think nine more characters. The previous game had like 13.

No idea if the new balance patch from arcade will arrive to consoles before a reasonable amount of time before Evo since I haven't been keeping myself up-to-date on that front.

First, it is a bit premature to say it isn't the same as the BB case. We've no idea what they are adding right now aside from a new mechanic (Guard Cancel Overdrive), a new character (Nu), a new story/mode (the remix heart thing), and completely new balance. I could be missing something (and probably am because I really don't follow it all that closely). In any case, we don't know.

That said, it is unimportant. While I do get crabby as fuck at having to buy the same arcsys game twice, whatever. My point is that SG is effectively a new game too and yet is still treated as anathema based on its vanilla showing.

More characters.
A story for each character.
New stage for each character.
New music for each character (is this one right?).
Better balance.
New mechanics (dizzy).
Lobbies (remember, that didn't come until PC launch).
Better training mode.
Voice-packs (eventually)

The major difference is that you didn't have to buy it twice... and if you had, maybe SG would be given better treatment.

Like I said, I enjoy P4U quite a bit, but it is effectively getting a second chance. When we watch it at EVO, it is going to look and feel similar to its P4A incarnation with a few more characters and better balance. We're not talking a new game. We're talking Ultra Persona 4.

Of course, I'm not saying P4U needs to be treated worse for all of this (I'd be thrilled if BB, GG, P4U, UNIEL made main stage)... but SG needs to be treated a little bit better than 2014 EVO. Hopefully, we get some dope treatment for last years fuck up, but only time will tell.

On P4AU 2.0: It ain't gonna be out in time for Evo. I think there's a 6-month exclusivity period on ASW's NESiCA arcade games coming to consoles, and they're surely going to take longer to make the console version for the inevitable console-exclusive content that will be included.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Wizard is pretty excited about all the money.
Seriously though, I'm willing to bet that if even the most casual of players saw a Smash 4 match and then saw a Melee match, they would be able to tell the difference.

On P4AU, it's more of a real sequel then CS:E, and I doubt that CP:E is going to be much better. While P4AU is not quite a full sequel, it's better then most other ArcSys expansions.

While P4AU is not quite a full sequel, it's better then most other ArcSys expansions.

Now this, I will admit to freely.

People actually like and play Killer Instinct? o.O

well without looking at the numbers im 99.9% certain it has more players than skullgirls does despite being on only 1 console.

There's a reasonable chance that ST will have more players.

Killer Instinct is an interesting title in that it’s seeing frequent updating... [] Would it have returned to Evo if that wasn’t the case?

Mr. Wizard: No, it would not be in Evo if the game wasn’t updated with fresh content.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 feels as if it’s fallen off a bit since Evo 2014. []...was it always considered a lock?

Mr. Wizard: It was always considered a lock.

Bu... I... Wha...

Seconding this because Skullgirls...

Mr. Wizard said:
No, [Killer Instinct] would not be in Evo if the game wasn’t updated with fresh content. Keeping players coming back for updates and new characters is what every game needs, and it definitely contributed to Killer Instinct coming back a second year

And I think that T7 being in the line-up invalidates a lot of what he said.

You have to be naive to consider that Evo nowadays is not picking games because of payoff potential. The "work your locals/major" is BS after you look at some of the free rides certain games got for main spot. Developers are looking at this event as good publicity/marketing opportunity to push more sales for relatively low cost.

I mean look at Smash, they had to pay several thousands of dollars as an active community just to get entrance while Injustice [at the time it recently came out] somehow magically made more space available despite the contrary continually insisted that room was tight. Reason is because Nintendo gives zero interest to support Evo.

Also lol at Wizard change of tune toward Persona. http://kumagawa.tumblr.com/post/29247988904/welp-looks-like-persona-4-arena-wont-make-it-to Atlus or whoever must have whistled a sweet tune in his ear. Highly doubt French Bread would [if it even could] moneyhat into evo.

That article just only echoed what was already common knowledge.

Ok then so glorious Shadow Chie still in her prime will be at main stage then.
gonna have to get past both Shos and Yu.

and considering how godlike Sho, PerShona, Yu, and Adachi are, it's probably gonna be those 4.

Shadow Chie isn't as high as you'd expect in the tiers.

Oh I know S.Chie isn't actually that high lol [King Narukami], but she can easily fool the ignorant spectator that says "top tier!" the moment she touches an unfortunate victim at full bar with no burst and witnesses all that health just disappear in showy fashion.

You forgot Yosuke since he is still good in this version.

so i know combo breaker has skull girls as a main event, but it has a ton of other main games too. do we know if it will get real main game (stage, stream) treatment? if these madcatz evo plans work out, i'm not sure how one will be more worth it than the other based just on one being under the'main game' label.
Evo attendance confirmed irrelevant. Combo breaker it is. (well, I'll see)

They haven't released the stream schedule yet, but SG is actually a side stage tourney according to the website.

you all need to stop reading into this so much. marvel gets the viewers and the entrants. simple as.

I'm not reading into anything. I'm pointing out an obvious contradiction to make a point that everyone already knows.

Everything he says about why games get in are complete and utter lies and the reason they're there is because money. In one form or another.

Players need to be excited and playing the game year round for consideration into Evo. Keeping up with your local scene and supporting it there will go a long way
This past year has basically seen an endless amount of well attended tournaments for Tekken7.
Also, my local FG scene is going strong for MKX
