Skullgirls Slapfest

"Membership is Invite Only" :(

Yeah, it appears I joined, but my steam seems to think I didn't :/

Skullgirls Slapfest: Painwheel Edition (4/7/15)

Featuring a Painwheel lesson by renowned Stevie Wonder cover artist east coast tourney regular @WarpedEcho!
Together we'll be showing you the ropes, and answering all your Painwheel questions, like:
  • Why is j.MP so good?
  • Can I really just armor through whatever I feel like?
  • Does Painwheel even have any good assists?
  • How can I best demoralize my opponents with Hatred Install combos?

This one's for all of you out there that sexually identify as attack helicopters.
If anyone has ever told you that a person being a helicopter is impossible, they're wrong.

Casuals at 9pm EDT, tutorial at 10.

Skullgirls Slapfest (4/21/15)

Sorry for the last-minuteness. In the interest of full transparency, I'm going to come out and admit it: I have a problem. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is way too good. I seriously can't stop playing that game, holy shit. Story is a little phoned in, but the gameplay... the gameplay... god damn. I hit 'em with Thundaga and then turn into a teleporting ghost lightning bolt and zoop zo-zoop zoop zoop.

*Ahem*

Anyway, tonight we're playing The Price is Right. The goal is to win by timeout; if you kill your opponent, you lose. I'm told this was originally a @Night Phyre jam, so shoutouts where shoutouts are due.

Lonesome Lenny is banned, for obvious reasons.

Casuals at 9pm EDT, minigame at 10.

Skullgirls Slapfest (5/5/15)

Tonight is Unconventional Assist Night!

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in a world without Beat Extend assist? Or Hornet Bomber? Or Lock 'n' Load? I know I have.

This week's Slapfest is dedicated to the assists that rarely get any attention; your Center Stages, your Egret Charges, etc. You can check out the full banlist here.

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

...yeah, maybe I should have come up with something Cinco de Mayo themed.

Skullgirls Slapfest: Parasoul Edition (6/2/15)

Featuring a Parasoul tutorial by dangerous wanted criminal top 8 combo-breaker-placer @Skarmand. Together we'll be answering all the important questions, like:
This one's for all the single princesses, who don't need no man (or assists, I guess).

Casuals at 9pm EDT, tutorial at 10.

Gah, I'd really like to do this (especially this Tuesday 'cause I'm trying to pickup Parasoul), but I'm almost always working Tuesday nights ;_;

Do you guys stream/record/archive any of this?

Skullgirls Slapfest (6/16/15)

So I keep hearing about people running these "kumite" and I think it's about time we try our hand at it, but with a Slapfest twist!

Players will take turns volunteering (or nominating an officer) to face a lobby full of people playing their most-hated character one-by-one, while the others spectate, talk shit cheer them on, and offer advice. Hopefully facing the character at a wide range of skill levels will help people learn a thing or two about the matchup, and it won't just turn into a giant salt-fest...

I suspect we'll be needing Fukua players.

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

Skullgirls Slapfest: MacGyver Night (6/30/15)

In order to pay tribute to the patron saint of resourcefulness, we'll be playing teams of 3 random characters.

Who knows, maybe you'll find something you like.

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

Skullgirls Slapfest: But What if You Get Snapped??? (7/14/15)

For tonight's event, everyone will be playing their teams in reverse order or, alternatively, the least competitively viable order (unless of course that's the order you normally play...).

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

Skullgirls Slapfest: Ms. Fortune Edition (7/28/15)

We'll be joined by deep-dish homeslice @Elda Taluda, who you might have heard of before. I think he won some stuff or something. Together we'll be going through all the stuff you really need to know, like:
  • How fair would it be to give Fortune a second head?
  • When's Real Cat voice pack for Fortune?
  • How does her detached head talk without lungs?
Casuals at 9pm EDT, tutorial at 10.

Skullgirls Slapfest: Pokémon League (8/11/15)

Everyone enters the lobby with access to the entire cast. Lose a character during a match (even if you win), and you can no longer pick that character. The last person with characters left wins!

Play it safe with solos, or risk it all by playing your main team. The choice is yours.

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

Skullgirls Slapfest: You Are What You Eat (8/25/15)

For tonight's event, whenever you beat somebody in a match you have to play using their team until you lose. What's the biggest win streak you can get?

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

Do you switch teams every time you win, or just the first time that you win?

what happens if you play the other person's team and you lose?

Skullgirls Slapfest: Valentine Edition (9/7/15)

It's time.
It's finally time.
This Labor Day (yes, Monday) Val gets the Slapfest tutorial treatment. Joining me will be Valentine expert @Duckator, known of course for winning Evo, then winning Evo, then not winning Evo, and then going to Combo Breaker instead of Evo. Together we'll be answering all the important Val questions, like:
  • Why does no one ever use orange vial?
  • Why does no one ever use green vial?
  • What's the best way to immediately ruin my damage scaling?
  • Why does @dekillsage keep saying Val has a DP?
  • ...was that a crossup?

Skullgirls Slapfest: Choose Your Buttons™ (9/22/15)

Man, to think it's been over a year already since we rebooted this group. Time to shamelessly reuse old ideas because everyone's forgotten about them!

For those of you who don't remember, Choose your Buttons™ is a minigame where you pick your team then pick 2 buttons to be the only buttons you can press during the match. For example, I might pick Valentine/Parasoul and LK/HP as my buttons. This would mean that I:
  • Cannot perform supers (since I only have 1 punch/kick)
  • Cannot tag
  • Cannot pick Pillar assist (since that uses HK)
  • Cannot throw (or tech throws)
So choose wisely.
Any accidental rule-breaking means your opponent gets a free single hit. Oh, and no macros allowed.

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

Skullgirls Slapfest: Freaky Tuesday (10/6/15)

Since it's the spooky month and all, it's time for the return of Freaky Tuesday!

For this minigame, you have to play as your opponent's main team. So for example, anyone playing against me will have to play as Valentine/Cerebella. Order matters, assists less so, but you're welcome to pick the assists your opponent usually uses if you can remember them. Communication's kinda important for this, so be sure to hang out in the Steam group chat (at least), and/or the Mumble chat server (ideally).

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

And before you even ask why I don't wait until the 13th to do this event, the next non-casuals Slapfest that lands on the 13th is in Dec 2016.

When's Valentine sHP Kara-oke?

Skullgirls Slapfest: The Price is Right (11/3/15)

That's right, The Price is Right returns! No, I'm not talking about the show.

For this minigame, the goal is to win without KO-ing your opponent; in other words, win by timeout!

Once again, the use of the Lonesome Lenny super will be prohibited.

Casuals at 9pm EDT, event at 10.

Oh, and it's been a while since I've posted here; we've transitioned to just doing casuals every week.
Same time and stuff, so come play!

Do you mind EU players at all? I'm having a tough time with lobbies, but I'd rather not make anyone play laggy matches if they'd rather not ha.
We don't mind EU players, as long as the time works for you (we generally run from 9pm to 3am eastern). Hopefully the lag isn't too bad.

Skullgirls Slapfest: Double Edition (8/15/17)

Wow, has it really been almost 2 years since we've done one of these? Crazy.
Among the interesting events that have happened in the meantime, Skullgirls somehow actually got finished, so now's a fantastic time get back in the swing of things with these tutorials!

Next Tuesday we'll finally be getting to the second half of the cast, starting with everyone's favorite shape-shifting safe DHC, Double. Joining us will be @keninblack, who despite playing her for longer than most SG players have been alive, still has the yungest Double. Together, we'll get into the real nitty-gritty questions I know you guys have been dying for answers on, like:
  • Are there assists besides Hornet Bomber?
  • Can I really just open-palm slap my controller to combo with lvl5?
  • What's the most disrespectful way I can land a teacup on my opponent?
  • When she fires her Luger, is she really just shooting off little pieces of herself?
Casuals start at 9pm EDT, tutorial at 10.

More info on the Steam Group page.

Due to some technical difficulties during our initial attempt (apparently training lobbies don't work well anymore), we'll be doing a second take of our Double tutorial next Tuesday at 10pm Eastern Time on our stream.

The tutorial will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube as usual, but I encourage people to tune in to the stream if they have questions that they'd like answered.
