Beast's Fury - Updates & Discussion

Well,to their benefit, it had awesome sprites...

Maybe they could ditch the main idea for now, do some contracts and try something smaller, simpler and cheaper in the future.

The thing is Bethesda games actually come out and they are good.

Mmmmmm Bethesda games sure do come out, but whether or not they're always good is highly debatable haha

Anyways, is the dev team still pushing forward at this point or are things actually coming to a halt?

I hope Evil Dog, wherever this goes, gets to a nice project. He seemed like a decent guy. Despite what's been said, he was consistently here and replying and taking points down, regardless of whether he got to it immediately. So hopefully things look up for him and the ppl who did the game's art and animation! It feels like the parts could have come togethor on this one. They just....didn't I guess.

If the dev(s) truly cared about promoting their game and making it a reality (see skullgirls page well.. everywhere) they'd probably try to stay in contact with the little bit of exposure they got into the community, this thread and website being a good example.

I'm honestly surprised this thread has stayed as active and not entirely into the gutter as it has thus far.

It's actually kind of interesting. We're seeing a dev give another dev some advice on what he should do in making this game while other people are giving their opinions and concerns on a project. It probably stayed alive so long because a lot of people don't get to see this kind of thread pop up a whole lot. I actually learned a lot from it.

I just noticed that I have been blocked from the @beastsfury twitter page. As far as I can remember the only tweet I ever made to them was saying this latest crowdfunding campaign would be a disaster.

This is a prime example of their god awful PR system. Bury their head in the sand and block users on Twitter instead of actually addressing issues.

I'm just really saddened to see this project end out like this. The leaders seemed like they were genuinely interested in taking advice and learning how to run a proper crowdfund when they started out, but then seemed to rapidly close in on "We know what we're doing" and barrel forward, ignoring anything contrary to their vision.

I couldn't agree more which is why I made my post prior, hopefully other independent developers wanting to make fighting games in the future will look at this as more of a learning lesson rather than a warning bell.

Uh... Yeah so you know how I said Beast's Fury is DEAD?

Well fucking the jokes on me apparently cause they are still doing stuff.

...

in the form of background characters which people can pay for at the low low low cost of $400?! WHAT THE SHIT IS THIS? OH SO YOU GUYS DIDN'T MAKE THE GOAL BUT NO NO DON'T TELL NO ONE THAT SO WE CAN SQUEEZE A FEW MORE DOLLARS OUTA PEOPLE AND GIVE THEM 2 SECOND ANIMATION LOOPS OF A BACKGROUND CHARACTER. AND NOT WORK ON THE ACTUAL GAME. GUH--- ARG... SIGH... they somehow managed to piss me off again. How? How can they do this? I thought they would have said "Alright we tried but in the end we didn't make it, this is a sign, round up next week and we'll pack everything up." BUT NOPE WE GOTTA GET MORE MONEY.

To fair the animation is fine and smooth so again I can't blame the animation crew on this project. But the leaders who are steering this ship are god damn blind. HEY PEOPLE! IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU HAVE COOL BACKGROUND CHARACTERS IF YOUR MAIN CHARACTERS IN THE FIGHTING GAME YOU ARE MAKING STILL DON'T WORK PROPERLY!

Come on artists of this game, you guys deserve better, i would do so much if i had the set of skills you guys have
(and i'm working to get there, even beyond, mark my words world!)

So, they are basically hoping to people to get the hopes to donate money to get their characters on the background to be able to do the game?

I'm sad, i am really sad.

Characters doing whatever you want in the background? I'm gonna drop $1600 for this:
  • seated at a desk, the character clicks a mouse to close a Kickstarter campaign and then open a new tab to repeat in an endless loop
  • a programmer studying a textbook, his t-shirt reads "learn from your mistakes"
  • the character head-on-tatami-mat bowing in apology in front of a pile of money bags that have "refund" labelled on them
  • a character wearing a straight-jacket doing the chicken dance
Purely coincidental, but all my commissioned characters look vaguely like the Beasts Fury creators.

alright don't chew out Evil Dog too much. At least he admited that he didn't know how to program for a fighter but he was willing to learn on the fly and he was at least making some progress. He was doing a fuck ton more work that any of the other designers behind BF, that's for sure. But yeah this is just a shifty underhanded plot to get some more money. Funny thing is that they only have 5 spots open for this. So they are doing all of this shit just for 2,000 extra dollars. >:V

Wait but didn't SG charge $1000 or some such for background chars? Though that $1000 came with all the other rewards for the indiegogo, which balances out. So is this just $400 for straight up the background chars?

I dunno the details, but if it's $400 for a background character, that's a great way to build some extra finances for the game if they're dead set on finishing it. It's a comparatively trivial thing to do a 2-3 frame animation of a background character, so for $400 the BF crew can put a bunch of that money back towards the game.

I would find it fine, if the case was: "we got the mony to fund the game, we are doing it", but i doubt someone will pay to get their character in the background.

Maybe they will try to develop something more and try another indiegogo?

Their example has a lot more than 3f of animation, though.

Uhh...feel free to yell at me for this but, isnt just wasted time and energy continuing to talk about them at this point?

I mean, it's really clear at this point they dont give a shit about this, still trying to milk as much money out of this as possible while still delivering nothing. And if Cellsai is telling the truth, banning people for any negative thoughts and feelings.

I'd just say leave them and let their shitty little project fail again, and again, and again.

well we can talk about it here cause the BF have moved off of this thread. And yeah you would think that these guys would
be doing this to save up money to help FINISH the demo. But no, I get the feeling most of that 400 dollars is being spent on the actual animation of the background character. Look i'm totally fine having people pay to have their character in the background all animated and stuff, it's neat. But only open that option up when the demo, no scratch that... when 80% of the game is done (at least most of the characters are programmed and made to play the way they are meant to.) is done. That everything gameplay wise is complete. It's just another misguided step and i just don't get. Are they doing this on purpose to make the worse decisions possible and completely ruin all chances of their game being taken seriously by people in the FGC or Developers that could support them and you know... give them money.

I think why this stuff gets on my case is that I'm not a game designer, but i know that if I made a game and had people funding me i would do my best to get a working demo out as quickly as possible and to have it play the way i envisioned it would play. The graphics would not have to be super shiny just good enough to get the point across, and most importantly I WOULD NOT WORK ON TINY LITTLE EXTRAS THAT CAN BE WORKED ON THE GAME AT A LATER DATE!

Priorities... fuck man... it's basic shit you pick up in school...if you can't do that then everything you do runs the risk of being fucked up cause you didn't prioritize on working on the most important things.

and this whole "You can have you're own background character for 400 bucks" thing is just another example of this warped priority that Beast's Fury has. It's child like and it baffles me and pisses me off seeing grown men do this shit with other people's money.

No matter how much the thread lambasts the game for being poorly put together, you don't have to so damn insistent to call their product shitty / don't give a fuck about it. I don't think that's the case and it's kind of ridiculous to do that.

Take the higher road or something, there's more than enough vitriol here already.

I can understand maybe taking these early, but we've got 1 stage and 2 wip chars. Put most if not all the funds Evil Dog's way so he can:
A)improve and gain a better understanding of fighters to help build this
B)Fix the damn demo

If -and only if, which I have many doubts on tbh- the artists got paid right, who cares? Even if the project dies, you worked and got the money. Contrary to what you may think, it's not easy and we can't really afford to be nitpicky on what we get to work on.

Some didn't. One of the developers (Evil-Dog? Don't remember) was really prideful about the fact that some people of the Beast's Fury community were willing to animate for them for free.

Yeah I remember that and I was mad at it. I hope they left the project.

Yeah, willing to work for free doesn't mean they should actually work for free
I hope the artists and any other no-pay employees were able/are able to find some compensation for their work

But that's what is though I dont see how you can look at this project, with it's busted characters, squabbling of other's people money, and waste said money on littlest of details than the actual important such as making a character balanced or at least "presentable" and then say that calling it shitty is an unacceptable reaction.

It is acceptable to call the game bad and express your feelings about it, but when all that is being said is just a constant barrage of "this is terrible", it gets redundant.
There's no need to continue insulting the game when plenty of people have already.
I think this game is just as terrible as everyone else, but I don't think this is really warranted.

You know what that's fair, the game can speak for itself for terrible it is.

No need to be politically correct about this, it looks completely terrible.

That being said, there's not much left to say that hasn't already been said.

There will probably be more updates to make people facepalm down the line, though. So this thread probably has some mileage in it yet.

If nothing else, this project should burn into everyone's mind how not to run a kickstarter/develop a game.

You haven't contributed anything to the conversation in any respect and all the stuff you could have said has already been said pages ago. The fuck did you gain by saying "WELL THIS IS POOP"?

Also this thread is over unless someone wants to contact me to say the final word. This is circles
