I need help finding Valentine's partner(s)...

So I've been playing Skullgirls since day one, but usually by myself in arcade mode. I would like to start playing in local tournaments here in NorCal (if there are any) and I want to level up my game and find Valentine a partner.

Could you folks make some suggestions for potential partners, explain why they make great partners, and solid assists?

Or better yet, if you could lead me to a thread with great suggestions.

I really like Fortune, Fukua, Big Band, and Double, but I'm open to any other characters.
 
fortune...not as good for.....synergy for val

val does well with double butt ala back dat ass up

big band all you need is beat extend L nothing more nothing less.
some people use take the a the train for specifics
fukua........has a lot of stuff. shadows H or shadows L will do you well but drill will do you even better.

but the most important assist you're missing is UPDO from filia. and she's a great team player as well as point.

Just try a mix and match of teams, currently I'm experimenting Valentine with Bigband and/or Squiggly

Great advice! I used to run with Valentine and Double, but I dropped Double because I neglected to actually learn her and only used her for the Hornet Bomber assist. I might actually sit down and learn her this time around.

I just dabbled with Fukua and I like what she has to offer, but I'm trying to get used to not having an air-dash. I also played around with using 236+HK as her assist and I love what I can do with it. It's a great move for extending Valentine's combos.

Speaking of assists and Valentine, what's a good assist for Valentine? I want to know just in case I want to run Fukua as point. I tend to us her 236+HK or Throw, should I just stick with those?
 
236 hk is just not good for val with fukua on point at least during netural....well its just not good. why? fukua is not fast at all. not fast enough to cover the assist. You even think about throwing out this assist and you'll get counter called or even better with a smart fortune.... fortune will fiber upper and punish from there.... if you even try to punish you'll get j hk with both you and the assist.

val is just not good for assist she's meant for point. if i had to pick an assist for val it would either be throw or c mk. or even command throw.
 
Okay, I'll mess around with Val & Fukua in the training room for a bit. I have to step my Val game up and get a better understanding of how Fukua works.

Fukua can cover assists very easily with fireballs or shadows, and if you hit them with an anti-air shadow why they are trying to hit your assist you get a free combo, I've seen MMDS do it way too many times. But that's a moot point because Val's best assist is still cr.mk because its a fairly long range low that gives you a little bit of lockdown+a low, which is the best val is gonna get.

As for DP assists, fiber isn't as amazing as updo, pillar, or beat extend but its a viable assist and really good alpha counter (probably the best in the game), it isn't a traditional dp assist but it still have invincibility most of the time (I think the assist version has invincibility regardless of head). My suggestion is to play Val/x/Double. You can pick whoever you want as your second character between, but mk hornet bomber is the best assist in the game and if you like double you should absolutely put her on your team. In the beginning I'd suggest playing the val/double duo right now in order to learn double, and eventually add another member to your team if you want to.

Fortune has tremendous synergy with Val. I'm not really sure why anyone would argue against it. Val's one of the few characters that can confirm off of fiber relatively easily/consistently.

When you consider that Val really likes DP assists, you start weighing your options among them. Updo is probably the best to use judiciously for damage/countercalls because of how its knockdown works, but Fiber is typically better on block imo because it has multiple hits. Not enough to act as a lockdown per se, but enough time to go for a crossup that at least forces your opponent to face away from your assist even if they block it. Fiber is much more forgiving for a bad call than Updo would be in the same situations.

As for the Fortune side, Fortune loves/spends a lot of meter, and Val is great at building that for her, and they tend to cover each other's bad matchups well.

Double is just.. Double. Outside of Double being extremely rewarding in her own capacity, bomber gives Val so many extensions/utilities, probably more than any other character.

TL;DR: if you're not playing Team Duck, play Team Omni.

Hey guy's started getting into skullgirls and started using Valentine. Can anyone suggest who are the best assist characters for Valentines?
 
Also Big Band (L beat extend) and Cerebella (Cerecopter or H LnL)

yeah Eliza works for pretty much anyone. But a mixup Val with "Ask" Your Head Assist is pretty much golden.

makes for a good High Low, Low Grab Set up.

Alright, I have Val with Axe assist. Now what would I choose? Big Band beat extend? Napalm Pillar? Where should I look?
 
for right now see what you can do with just Carpenter's Axe assist. But yeah if you want to slap a band or a parasoul onto your team those assists are okay. If you want Filia go for cr.mk assist it's a nice multi-hitting low can help you do some mixups.
