OK, I'll try a diary too.

Thanks for the in-depth info! Also, I watched the first hour of that FT50 YT vid. I wish I'd watched that about a month or so ago. Better late than never, I suppose. Great stuff. Now the wait's on for the weekend to get back to playing!

Last weekend included combo practice in training w/my 3 mains, another Wulf training session w/ @iDaNtE-_-_- and some solo Wulf matches. Then a bunch of solo Wulf matches vs. @SmashBlade using Wulf & other characters. I lost every match against both of them, but I did gain momentum in a few matches. If I can do that more often next weekend, there might be more progress w/this character.

Maybe it's time to start running him first in Duos w/Fukua/BB unless someone thinks I need to keep sticking to solo matches til more progress is made. Also, progress in P4AU, which I feel I'm slightly better at. Xrd... I'm getting off topic. I'd really like to be able to play during the week like so many people, to consistently improve, but will be content with what I can do in my situation.

Another good training session w/ @iDaNtE-_-_- where I made some progress w/uses for Blitzer and other things.
Had a set w/ @Shidoshi who's welcome to practice with me again next weekend. Green ping number was good for connection, and I'm glad to help out if you want.

Played vs. a tough KPDiel (I think?). Not sure if he's here, but ggs. I'm still a little off, a bit scattered between this, Xrd & Ultimax. Hopefully I can play vs. @Lawnba & @ShakyFingers next weekend, since they posted wanting to do so a while back.

Hopefully I can play vs. @Lawnba & @ShakyFingers next weekend, since they posted wanting to do so a while back.

I won't be around for games around then. I'll be too busy going 0/2 at Combo Breaker this weekend, so maybe next time! And maybe next time I can remember how time zones ACTUALLY work so I don't give the wrong time for when I'll be around for games.

Heh, about two months later. Fukua's line: "I thought you were done for" comes to mind for this journal.
I might not have posted again if 2nd Encore hadn't just hit & I started training w/Robo, who's brand new to me being a PS3-only guy.

I'd been reading the Robo subforum & watching videos in the months before release since I tend to enjoy cool robots in entertainment & was considering maining/subbing her. I put in a good amount of time in Training & online vs. & faced a superior Robo in one set.

Online was more busy, as I expected. And I enjoyed a rare Skullbats. My first set I used solo Robo because I thought I had too (whoops).

This weekend my goal is to get those jump cancels down in combos & see if she replaces Fukua as my 3rd best. I don't see myself ever dropping BB or Wulf, but I'm open to whatever w/Robo & Fukua.

If someone wants to play a set however long they have time for to see what works best w/ BB, Wulf, Fukua & Robo, let me know. Looking foraward to fun & improvement!

Ggs @Risen4life
-I went 6-30, using mainly a variety of my 3 mains & Robo. Even tried solo BB.
-Slight improvement w/Robo's combos.
-Had good momentum & neutral w/Fukua at times.
-Did some new (for me) BB reset stuff from a video I saw.
-Beo was hit & miss (dropped combos, etc), but he's still fun.

Two weeks away from Ps3 & bad sleep...I needed some training time, but was getting fight requests in Xrd & P4AU.
Juggling three (almost four) fighting games in only a weekend can be tricky...

Ggs @ink_deer

-I wish our connection was better, but you still manage those combos.
-Something crazy/unexpected always seems to happen in a set we have, and it's fun.
-Seems you're playing Bella now too (really well).

And anyone else of various skill levels over the weekend. I try to encourage the people who struggle for those wins vs. me w/PSN messages since there's no lobby chat for PS3. Thanks for everyone who played!

Didn't get any responses over the weekend to people from here that I sent invites to, but that's OK. We all have different schedules.
Almost no one was around for random lobby play, so I went into Quick Match. After a few lag-fests (how do people combo in lag?) I found two people w/good connections that were around my level. So I sent messages/PSN friended them for short sets of lobby play.

Training breakthrough w/Robo: I can jump cancel (finally)! Extra practice & a good connection really helped. She's my 4th best.

Also, my craziest DHC ever: Fukua Lv.3 into Fortune Lv.3. XD
I don't use Fortune too much, but she's one of my only subs, along w/Bella. I've lost almost all Peacock skill at this point.

I rarely have 5 meters, but when I DHCed, the opponent's BB flew to the upper corner, and Fortune's arm flew all the way up there for the hit. That was just-fun.

I'll stop for now; still enjoying the game & looking forward to the next update.

Monthly post?
I may be better w/Robo than Fukua now.
Not sure about dropping Fukua since I really enjoy shadows, armored command grab, BFF & more.

I do enjoy Robo more as a character, and that may have had a part in me making extra effort in learning her.
Magnet Super is one of my fav moves in the game, and I try to land it every match, usually off a simple throw or HK.
Then DHC to G.Arm, because I love it (and Robo gets beat up a lot)
Assists: H Beam, H Chair, H Brass/L BE (keep switching between the two)

Been making PSN friends through Quick Match & try to encourage people & direct them to the forum.
Anyone w.coast or w/a good connection avaialable on a weekend, feel free to train w/me.
I should try the next Skullbats... and train w/iDante if I get a chance. My Beo keeps slipping & could be a lot better.

Guess I'm going from a monthly post to a weekly post- for now.

Thanks to @iDaNtE-_-_- for the in-depth Beowulf training. Only playing on weekends & learning BlazBlue CPE the past three weeks or so really messed with some of my already questionable skill.

His Robo was quite impressive as well. I did some training on my own & quick matches.

That worked out since I have a tough time reaching people on PSN (too sleep deprived/occupied w/BBCPE story for Skullbats yesterday).

I like encouraging a person w/a message once in a while from QM & have even made a few PSN friends from people w/good connections.

Ha, a bit more than a week since the last post.
Not posting here to try to get attention, but just contribute to the community (I actually haven't had to do much as a mod).

-4-16 set with @iDaNtE-_-_- who didn't use Beo, but focused on Fil, Val, BB & PW
-My Beo & Robo were lacking, despite the time & effort put into them.
-I enjoy them, but Fukua is probably a better main than one of those two for me. Maybe someone who's played vs. me can say which three & team order/assists are best.
-Tend to switch up order & assists to keep trying new stuff, though I don't think I've ever managed a combo that uses an assist.
-Actually enjoy using Bella, Fortune & Pea once in a while for fun.

Did Practice with a random person who joined my w.coast room.
Showed me a new combo for Beowulf & a double snap combo for Robo among other things. I don't know if I've ever hit anyone w/a double snap combo, though.

-I write down combos from here & practice them, but can't manage ones that are too long, and can only remember so many, especially considering I have a main & two subs for BBCPE, P4AU & DOA5LR (played the least of the four).
-Having trouble deciding what double jump combo to do for Robo (I'd prefer the easiest).
-Or how to get around fullscreen zoning. Chair toss>cHK doesn't always cut it. 0.0

Won two Quick Matches over the weekend. Trying to win those a bit more...
A minor goal is to get on the bottom (#1000) of the PS3 leaderboard.
But I've been trying that for a few years during brief windows of time on weekends.
I do that when no one responds to unranked room invites, and random people don't show/have a good connection w/me.

Take care, thanks for reading.

I still think @ShadeMoneh Robo combo is the easiest. All you need to adjust is your first j.hk timing for lights and make sure to delay your first j.mk as much as possible.

OK, thanks. Looks like:

cLK, cMP, MK, cHP
jMK j(2)HK, JC, jMK, j(2)HK
(MP), cHP
jMP, j(2)HK, JC, jMK, jMP
LPx2, (MP), MK, HP, H Danger, Super

At least I think you hold down on jHKs in combos. I could always ask again in the Robo section.
I'll shorten/simplify it if I can't get it with practice.
I should post these annotations in the video comments. Someone else was asking about them & never got a response.

Oh, I joined the Skullgirls Training & Nor CA Facebook groups. Also up for playing w.coast US people here on PS3 on weekends (if anyone does PS3 here).

Also been wanting to play at a local for a few years, but can't get to San Carlos by public transit (now Belmont, I hear- same story).

Got an idea for your sig. A link to a website you feel is good for people to see or something encouraging. :)

Ggs w/some people, including inkdeer. Went 0-20ish, but was very close on some. My Fukua is better than Beowulf. Maybe I need to drop him already.
I've put a ton of work into him, but can always sub him. Or just put in more work.
Still can't decide on team order/number (2 or 3)/assists.

Maybe this is my best: Robo (HBeam), Fukua (HDrill), BB (LBE)
I guess if someone wants to play vs. me on a weekend, one could help me decide.
Considering bumping the Online Match Finding section of the forum. Heh, been a month since anyone's posted. PS3 topic... or I can just try PSN friends & random folks.

-I keep thinking each post will be my last, but I'm still playing, so why not post in a new year.
Been reading everyone else's posts in this section though. It's a fun part of the forum.

-Played vs. @Risen4life (ggs), and gotta work on defense vs. Bella.
Finally made it to a PS3 Skullbats last night & went 0-3, 2-3, 2-3, 0-3
@ShakyFingers @flio-turbo @Magma442 @TechPowah

Gotta improve vs. Peacock zoning (I've watched the video a few times), Beo & more.

-This may be the most @s I've ever used. So I had a rough night of sleep the night before 'Bats, was a bit rusty & have a tough time w/connections sometimes, but I just want to play better basically.
I keep switching my team size, order & assists up on losses to try to find what works best vs. certain people, but guess nailing things down more would be helpful.

-Duo or trio... Just BB & Robo, or add Beo or Fukua, or even someone else.
I've played Peacock, Bella & (heads-on) Fortune as well over the past few years for fun & sometimes find Fortune to be good vs. people, but- yeah.

-Long set vs. PoptheMolly(?) 10-35. Fukua, Val & Eliza were especially tough.
A lot of matches this weekend, hence the post. Thanks for reading.

Gotta improve vs. Peacock zoning (I've watched the video a few times), Beo & more.
Your biggest problem in our games was you kinda just sat there letting me do what I wanted. Your Robo/Beowulf/Big Band team is soooooo good at blowing up Peacock. Robo can just repeatedly L Beam Peacock - I found a way to really blow that up, but I'm kinda keeping that hush hush until after I go to Combo Breaker - Beowulf can chairless sweep bomb patterns on reaction or just straight up arm super a lot of the stuff she does on reaction. Big Band is a bit tougher because he's so big and gets hit by stuff so easily, but all it takes is a good H Brass and you're in. Plus you use H Brass assist, and that's so difficult for Peacock to deal with. I wish I could go into more detail, but really, you were just far too passive and let Peacock run wild, and you dropped all the confirms you got and let me get away, so you should work on that. Probably doesn't help that my internet has gone to complete garbage lately, so all that stuff can be pretty rough to deal with in lag.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah
Your biggest problem in our games was you kinda just sat there letting me do what I wanted.

Thanks for the reply. Good idea on that tech hush.
Yeah, I was trying to carefully not get hit, but take block damage while Peacock builds meter.
Guess I'll get more aggressive & take risks.
Part of why I drop combos sometimes depends on connection, though others often do better at this despite lag.
I might need to post in the Robo subforum because I still don't get why the [MP] of the 2nd relaunch part drops.
Maybe just settle for one air chain into ground chain>super, but I'd like to do what others do w/Robo more often.

Less than a week later & a new post. Well, why not.
Missed Skullbats, went 1-2 in QM & thought that was it for the week, when suddenly-
Epic set (0-50) w/ @TechPowah
I'd better stick w/shorter sets from now on...
Didn't stand a chance vs. his main team of BB/Beo or a trio w/Bella.

But had a few close matches. Just got to remember what was done right in those.
May have to do w/momentum. If I had it early-on it was a huge help.
If he did, I didn't really have a way to make a comeback to win.

Kept trying to figure out the best duo/trio, assists, team order & characters between BB, Robo, Beo, Fuk & Fortune.
After two years I still can't do headless, but she's not even a sub. Gets results sometimes w/mixups & meter...
Been putting in time practicing combos in training, but didn't get them too often.

It was some good practice. Looking forward to next weekend.

Start using taunt assists, they get results
:y
More seriously, your Band and Fukua are not too bad, but you need to work on escape routes when you've been cornered
I noticed you also didn't have much of a defense against blockstrings aside of reaction shotting me away, it is OK to be a bit less stingy about using reversals, though obviously it's not a 100% fail proof out-of-jail card

it was a great set tho, GG
I await our next set, if you'll have me

Cool, I was hoping you'd reply & with a tip or two, thanks.
Glad you thought it was a good set; was hoping it wasn't boring for you.
Yeah, I'll shoot for a shorter weekend set; hopefully I'll be a bit better this time.

Skipped a month of posting & I missed NWM (wish I could've gone) & a long set yesterday.
Kept switching team size, order, assists & even characters to try & find something that works best. Every opponent is different, so a little of that is fine.
I should do less of that next time though.

BB is my best, so instead of anchor I actually get momentum earlier by using him 1st or 2nd.
Other two I use are Fukua & Robo, though I've spent a ton of time w/Beo.

Side note: kinda funny yet cool that on PS3, when the character select timer hits zero, nothing happens. :)

Still deciding on what Robo B&B drops the least for me (after all this time).
Probably the JC-less one at the top of the B&B topic, removing the extra LK, [MP] before the last chain, because of a possible drop. Or I can try getting it in training again.

Or cLK sMP sMK cHP,
jMP, jHK JC jMP, jHK[2]
[MP], MK, cHP, jLK, jMK, jHK[2]
LP, LP, [MP], MK, HP, H Danger, Cannon or Magnet

Because jLK, jMK JC or jMK, jHK JC drops much more often for me than jMP stuff

Almost 2 months since the last post, huh. I've been playing every weekend, though.

P4AU online died out recently, so SG has been my main game. But I'm still playing a bit of BBCPE since there's some activity.
If I finally get Revelator I'll have much less SG time due to single player & vs.

Finally entered Skullbats for the first time in quite a while & enjoyed a good part of it.
Some connections are pretty random though, and I'm amazed at how well some people can combo in heavy lag.
Won two of the five sets (different players) I played, with one of those losses being a very close 2-3 set.

Still finding random people on PS3 to play! PSN friends aren't often available at those times I play, so it works out sometimes.

Went 2-40 (decided to stop at 40) in set vs. @Risen4life
Some of those losses were close, but overall I was looking to improve, switching characters (bringing in Beo at times), order, size & assists. It might disrupt quick rematches, but I try to adapt a little vs. a tough opponent.

I still don't reset much, so when I do hit a combo I really need to bring in the damage. Sometimes when I get a hit w/Robo I just settle for one air chain (or none) so I don't drop it & not get the super at the end.

BB's midscreen wallbounce into BE... sometimes I just jump & do combo in the super, but I see people in match videos do other things. I've tried to replicate it in training, but might need to check the combo topic.

Monthly post? Why not, I'm a bit buzzed. XD
16-40 set vs. a PSN random by the name of unknownsoldiergx (I think)
He used solo BB, Para, Fukua & Double.

I tried a lot of variations to try & deal w/his high-level play (esp. Fuk) Maybe too many variations.
Still, it's interesting to see what works vs. various people.

Was having trouble getting hit w/ launcher, crossunder into low/throw/overhead. Need to guess better or react quicker, I think. Same thing when incoming (w/launcher).

The odd thing was his teabagging & runaway (sometimes) when he had a life lead.
And the unfriendly message afterwards when I sent him a ggs message & complimented how good he was.
Oh well, randoms can be... random.

Still hoping to get to my first local by keeping an eye on the NorCal Facebook group.
And I plan to play yet again on the weekend vs. people here, PSN friends or even randoms.

I read, watch videos & do other things during the long wait for a PSN random to show up 0.0.
Maybe Skullbats...but the time might not be ideal- again.

Anyways, thanks for reading.

So the hope from a month ago happened today, thanks to Cayce of the NorCal FB group. Meetup was in Sunnyvale.

Someone took some pictures, and I noticed I was in one of 'em (on the right).

Maybe I'll make it to a major someday...

Not sure if any of the guys I played are on the forum & reading this, but good games.

The last person I played vs (Josh, I think?) before I had to leave was quite a challenge.

First time playing in a SG local; it was casual & fun.

I hadn't done any fighting games vs people offline since arcades... maybe 8 years ago (can't even remember).

Sometimes dropped combos if they got too long (even offline huh).

Saw an arcade stick that I should've tried out. I brought the ol' PS3 pad, but an arcade stick... (must be patient).

__________________________________________________________________________

Also did a few online sets.

My Bella has leveled up a bit, though I still drop the end of combo w/j LP x 5(?), LP, MP, HK, Exe, Dynamo a lot.

And I still drop BB's wallbounce combo into cMP, H BE, jLP, jLK, jMKx2, jHP, M A-Train.
Well, I've only done it once in training so... yeah.

Anyway, hope you're all doing well. Take care!

Monthly post time. I can always post more often, or less. Typing this while waiting waiting for someone to join my PSN practice room XD

Been using characters besides mains/subs in vs. sets where the player isn't super-tough to keep my interest in the game.
Well, the patch will hit PSN eventually, so there's that too.

Para in vs. for fun because I like her character & charge moves (including that [4]6 MK dramatic Egret), and I'm happy to have a combo down:

cLK, cMK, cHP
jMP, jHP
LKx2, MKx2, [4], HPx2, 6LP, 236 PP

Heh, not much else besides throw into super, air throw into LP, etc, super.

Also, Painwheel due to loving humor in fighting games, and her alt voice is great. I watched the video guide on YouTube to understand neutral. My one combo:

cLK, cMK, HP, 236 LP
cMK, HP, 236 LK, 236 PP

And I can't do fly/unfly in combos, ha. There may be a longer combo than the one I know, w/o fly/unfly, but I haven't found it yet.

Bella is fun too, but she's not a main/sub, so I have neutral & combos that drop, such as:

cLK, cMP, cHP
jMK, jHK
cLK, cMK
jMP, jHK
(combo drops here before cMP)

There was another combo that went:

cLK, cMP, cHP
jHK
(I forgot the rest) Basically shorter & more reliable

MF, I've tried combos off & on for years, but they're too long/difficult, esp. on pad for me. I enjoy the neutral, though.

Pea, I'm using off & on. Can do a baby combo & the airthrow reset off jHK

Mains: I still drop BB's wallbounce combo after over two years:

cMP, H BE, etc. should end with simpler stuff than trying to jump after the BE since I'm on pad & need to switch my grip to get full shake.
Or maybe just practice more.

Fukua's OK. I can't seem to get the resets in the video I've watched a few times. I'm just not into resets too much I guess.

Beo's not improving much. Can do short combos. Weird that I can't get a group chain off of air Blitzer 6K, 2K anymore.

Robo's slowly improving. Again, as with everyone, I can't do the best combos, but I can get two air chains, into ground stuff, into super.
And am confident in neutral.

I might be alpha countering too much in general.

Have a good connection PSN friend I've had sets with for a few weekends now. Keep missing Skullbats though.

Hope anyone that read this enjoyed. I'm on the Discord & here reading stuff. And watching videos of sets that people post here.

Keeping up posting at least once a month.
Not for attention, but just to keep going with this. After all, I'm looking forward to console lobbies & the balance patch.

I have a PSN friend around my level w/good connection, who I've been playing sets (roughly FT20) every weekend.
This player's not on SH or Discord (I think). Pushing this player to improve is fun.

Been working on Bella a bit more since the character is fun (can't do stuff like runstop combos, but hey).
And the usual mains, subs, and sub-subs (for casual play).

I started playing (low-level) PW when the alt voice came out. Never done that for a fighting game character before. But getting a throw and hearing "Okay, fine" is just too good.

Skullbats PSN channel is up on YT, and OneGun is offering to record matches.
This may be my chance to finally have Skullgirls matches on YouTube.
I have a few videos of other fighting game matches from opponents who recorded, but never in the years of playing this.

My mental state is good, but my physical state is always a bit distracting; chronic facial pain & lack of sleep (waking up early & not getting back to sleep). Financial state precludes travel to a major.

Also have the (possible) dubious honor of being the oldest player on the forum (turned 43 on 10/21).
So it's interesting to see how my reflexes hold up. And whether the old dog can learn new combos, etc.

Almost let this die out. It's been long enough. But console lobby patch was a big deal for me over on PSN.
Didn't bring in as many people as I was hoping (no one was playing yesterday for a while).

But Sat. was Skullbats w/a revamped organization structure. One set was a good connection & the other was bad.
Lost both sets. Spent a lot of time training waiting for it to start & between sets.

But I appreciate the efforts of the SB Discord people, so I hope to continue to participate (despite needing to use my brother's PS3 to play). Which reminds me- maybe I should update to PS4...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways, since the update, I've been adapting to character changes decently. Even worked in the simplest shadow combo I could w/Fukua: cLK>MK>HK>M Shadow>HP>combo

Finally have a corner combo down w/Robo. After trying almost every one I could find here, Discord & on YouTube, I'm going with: cLK>cMP>MK>cHP
jLP>jMP>H Beam jc jLK>jMP>H Beam
LPx2>MP>MK>HP>H Danger
LK>MP>MK>HP>H Danger> Super (either works, I guess)

Maybe it does less damage, but everything else drops for me for some reason.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Band's B&B & corner combo I guess I'll do:
Typical bulk of combo>H BE (shake)> jLK>jMK> LPx2>cMK>HK>H ATrain

I'm ending before that extra air chain of jLP, because that's where the combo drops.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beo- my 4th fav to use. Not really improving with him, but the new grappling stuff is fun, not that I get to use it much in vs.

Guess most activity's on Discord. But might as well post here.
Oh yeah, and feel free to get in touch if you want to play.
(Though that's a Discord thing, it can be tough to find w.coast US players for good connections) Thanks for reading.

-A bit over a month later- this is a short amount of time compared to before the last post.
This forum section is quiet, but here goes-

Bad news- I'm playing SFV more than SG, and I only have parts of the weekend to play.

So I didn't win a match in the random SG PS4 Pro Tourney on Sat. Trying to think the last time I went all 0-3s.
-Well, Pro is different than Skullbats. Got close in some matches, but still. All 0s.
-Also, went 2-10 vs. a random person in lobby using Para/Filia.

Good news- I've been on PS4 for a few weeks now. Got the game when it went on sale for $5.
-This means I can play people, since SB is PS4 & crossplay seems iffy. PS3 seems less active.
-Extra content & fun stuff on PS4. Did all trials for BB, Robo, Beo, and almost Fukua.
(I also have those Color #10s for Beo & the others that I couldn't use on PS3)

To do: Play more. Improve somehow. I'll post a replay if someone posts one of me playing on YouTube

New PS4 ID is: cpnsleepy
(Unfortunately, it's my brother's console)
