What other major has a Wawa in the parking lot of the venue?

What other major has after hours laser tag money matches?

What other major has dozens of restaurants within walking distance of the venue?

What other major lets you waste away in a jacuzzi in a beautiful Florida October?

CEOtaku 2016
Play Skullgirls 2nd Encore!
Win money!
Meet people!
Get naked! actually don't do this
Party it up!

The Major:
Begins October 1st and ends October 2nd. I'm going to push for Primetime Saturday, again. Even if we get double the entrants we did last year (which is a very real possibility), it should be doable supposing we get a legitimate number of setups to match.

Wait, I thought you said September 30th in the Event info?
Yeah, we'll get to that. Tournament stuff first.

The Venue:
The Wyndam on I-Drive, again. Same CEO venue we've been using since 2010. Same 24-hour pool. CEOtaku will actually take place in the main ballroom this time. Popeye's is not closing, contrary to rumors, although it remains unsaid whether or not tournament badges will garner a 10% discount there, again. Watch this space for info.

Orlando International Airport is within 11 miles driving distance, and Downtown Orlando is less than 10 miles away. Mears Shuttle runs 24 hours a day between the airport and the hotel. Shuttles depart from the airport approximately every 30 minutes. To arrange your shuttle travel to the hotel, go to the nearest Mears Transportation counter on Level 1 of Orlando International Airport when you arrive. All transportation will depart from Level 1. The counter personnel will direct you to your vehicle. The cost per person round trip is $30.00. Taxis are available at Orlando International Airport on both the A and B sides of the Main Terminal, on the Ground Transportation Level (Level 1), at Commercial Lane parking spaces. Cab fare from the airport to the Wyndham Orlando Resort is approximately $40 one-way.

You can take the city busses (Lynx) from the airport to get to the venue, of which there are many. Additionally, if you find a way to International Drive somehow there is the I-Drive Trolley that's just a fancy bus but goes up and down it and can take you anywhere from Mall of Millenia to Sea World.

There also may be local drivers willing to pick you up. That's what this thread is for!

The Tournament:
We will be fighting on the main stage. Autumn Games is providing a $1000 pot bonus. Bring your best.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore will be played on PS4. PS3 sticks are allowed, of course, but not Dual Shock 3's because they obviously just don't work. Wireless controllers are technically allowed as per last year's rules, but once again I am going to enforce a zero-tolerance policy vis a vis disconnecting your controllers. Your only warning will be during announcements at the start of your pool.

Because of the expected larger turnout, I'm going to outright ask for no button checks. It's Skullgirls. If you can physically get into the game, you have already checked your buttons. You have to set your face buttons during Character Select in Tournament Mode, and selecting a team requires you to move your joystick. If your stick is so unreliable that you need to see if it'll fail after 2 minutes of being plugged in, find a setup long before your fight and don't ever disconnect from it. Or just find a new stick! It'll probably fail during a fight at some point, so either maintain that shit now or deal with random losses. I am not going to extend the tournament the length of a potential fight each one of your sets because you're a unique snowflake.

That said, all sets will be 3 out of 5, double elimination. What has been tournament standard up until now will remain. This unfortunately might mean that we may not be able to complete the tournament on Saturday night, which is fine by me if the reason is "too many entrants to do in a single day."

The Extracurricular Activities:
So, Friday, September 30th, we are going to Wet 'N Wild. It's actually pretty cheap, the park will be closing at the end of 2016, it's one of the largest and highest-rated water parks in the world, it's a mile from the venue, and since we'll be going in the autumn I'm expecting there to be no lines (I used to be an annual pass holder and this was basically the best time of year to go). The park's hours are going to be from 10am to 5pm (give or take an hour, watch this space for info). Tickets are $40 for Florida Residents, $50 for out of state people if bought online (and good for repeat visits every day for 14 consecutive days), and $60 in person (only good for 1 day). There's also an UNLIMITED BARBEQUE OPTION that adds like $15-20? (watch this space for info) to your ticket but gives you access to UNLIMITED ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BARBEQUE FOOD HOW COOL IS THAT.

So, when you book your flight, land early Friday morning (before 9) or land Thursday night. 7 hours is a long time to spend at an amusement park when it has no lines, but there might be a ton of us and I don't want to take any chances with random Brazilian tour groups clogging up the place. Worst case scenario, we go back to the venue and chill.

Oh, right. I guess there's other stuff, too. The Orlando Eye is a gigantic ferris wheel surrounded by restaurants and shops and a healthy contender for top 100 worst arcades ever. We're right next to Universal, but that place costs like a million dollars so you'd best come a few days earlier and plan your entire vacation around it. There's Ripley's Believe It or Not!, there's Wonderworks (and its laser tag arena). And then there's Whirlydome. Whirlydome is the terrifying tourist trap we all tumbled into after the tournament last year. It has pool, bowling, air hockey, arcade games, a full bar, food, laser tag, and Whirlyball (drunken bumper car jai alai). I'm willing to bet there might be some grudge matches awaiting here.

Salty Suites?:
It's been mentioned that our community is too large to just do casuals in a random hotel room. There has been no announcement on this topic, but I have no reason to believe the Wyndham will change in such a way as to allow us a 24-hour ballroom in which to play. Additionally, there's a very real chance that all the Saturday after-hours time will be occupied by non-fightgame activities. If all goes to plan, we'll have all day Sunday to play casuals in the venue. Friday night? Well, that's something we can discuss.

How much will Wet N Wild run?:
Florida Resident (infinite visits for the rest of the year): $39.99
Out of state (online purchase only, infinite visits for 2 weeks): $48.00
Out of state (in person, single day): $58.00

How will we get to the water park from the venue?
For those of you who want to do this, I'll pick you up from the venue hotel and drive you there Friday morning. It's only like a mile and a half, so multiple trips aren't an issue. Chime in if you're down.

Again, watch this space for info! CEOtaku will kick off the 2017 major season with a blast, although since SG2E revolves around Combo Breaker and not Evo, it will technically be the finale major for the 2016 season! Unless people go to NEC or whatever.

"Yeah you can kick my ass in SG, but SEE ME IN FT500 CRUNCHES!"

There are three things I know to be true: 1. Coke is objectively superior to Pepsi 2. Phil Collins is the greatest entertainer of all time 3. I will be attending CEOTaku in 2016

Really doubt i'll be able to go due to $.

We'll see what happens though, i'm definitely interested in going. Just have no idea how i'll do it.

Can't believe you guys actually believe that Pepsi is better than Coke like

The Earth isn't flat either. Hate to break it to you!

yeah ok but what about faygo cola. roll up

I mean, I'm not saying PepsiCo sucks. They gave us Baja Blast, which we all know is the best soda ever made. I'm just saying Pepsi, itself, and all variations of it, suck and are inferior to Coke.

To keep this relevant, PTO situation at my job is very good, I'm locked into this tournament and am looking forward to seeing everyone!

Well I couldn't make Combo Breaker, but apparently people say this one will be a large one as well.

If I can score a job, I'll definitely attempt to make a trip to Ceotaku. I hope the people who went to CB are going to Ceotaku. Don't dodge me.

I don't see Skullgirls on the tournament's website.

The site won't be updated for CEOtaku until after CEO is over next month. Jebailey said details will be announced in July.

im still going to assassinate you

I'd like to go to this, but flights are expensive at the moment because of our economy suddenly taking a nosedive so I'm not 100% sure if I can make it. One question though: I can't go to wet n wild because of skin stuff, so does that mean I'd be better off arriving on Friday evening? Or would there be things for me to do before that?

Booked my flight for this. We in there!!! I'll be flying in Thursday night. Looking forward to hanging out with everyone Friday, especially since I don't usually get enough time to hang out with everyone during tournaments. Too many things to do and people/things I want to see ;.;

A florida local would probably know more in depth details but the venue is situated in a good place to find touristy stuff nearby. Other than that, not sure what else you could do in the day. Maybe just hang out around the resort? Last year, I believe the venue was open for casuals, team tournies and exhibitions but that was only in the evening. Not sure what the plans are this year for Friday.

Catching up on this thread and there is only 1 thing worth adding to it currently;

Coke is indeed superior to Pepsi.

The venue is located on International Drive, which is Orlando's version of the Las Vegas strip. There's a ton of stuff to do. There's also all the other amenities on-site like the 24-hour pool, Giordano's/Popeyes/Perkins/more literally across the street, Wawa/Coldstone/more literally in the parking lot, casuals to run, and so on. The water park closes at like 7pm in September so we'd be around in the evening to accompany any good times.

I sincerely hope you can make it. Sorry 52% of your country is stupid.

Unfortunately I can't swim or spend much time in the sun for the next year or so, so I probably can't do most Florida tourist stuff either. I guess another way of saying it is: if all I want to do is play as much Skullgirls as possible and level up my game, is this the tournament for me? If the tournament itself stays as 2/3 and I can only play against people for a couple of nights, I might sit out. On the other hand, it sounds like everyone's going so I'll try to be there if it's likely that I'll be able to get a good amount of playtime over the weekend.

edit: oh god you replied as I was writing this, time to panic

It's gonna be 3/5 because that's the standard.

We do most of the really crazy shit after hours at CEOtaku. Don't worry about the sun. The water park is an exception. Also, you don't need to know how to swim in a jacuzzi.

Oh, I phrased that wrong. I can swim just fine, I just can't do it for the next year or so, especially not in something hot like a jacuzzi (because of skin problems).

That's all really reassuring; I'll see how things are with money when more details about the tournament get announced. Thanks for the info!

I'm gonna do my best to make it to this. My parts supplier has sort of taken me under his wing and now helps me get to tournaments.

In short, if Paradise Arcade Shop is there, I'll be there. Maybe I'll actually compete this time instead of just pot monstering...

The flight is much cheaper for me if I show up on Thursday. People have rooms on Thursday right?

I finally have money and this date definitely won't get in the way when I ask for time off. I better be able to go.
