Shantae Series

Was this on Hero-mode or normal one? I could see this as easily achievable on the first one.

Was this on Hero-mode or normal one? I could see this as easily achievable on the first one.

Normal mode. You have to beat the game in under 3 hours and you also have to grab everything in under 4 hours

I'm getting Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse on Wii U, but is Half-Genie any better on PS4?
like, not even counting the trophies

Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse were on sale for Ps4 to my knowledge. You can get both games for around $7.00 altogether. The controls handled fine from my end on it.

I had no issues or any bugs on it either.

speed it up, current top time's 2:16

hit 2:05 in game timer today for 100%. I don't know what my real time was as i went dumb and missed the stop button. I think i've found a good speed route for 100% hero mode though

So.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate Cristina Vee's singing voice?

Holy crap. Dance Through the Danger is a great song.

I guess you could say she...can't turn down a fan heheheheh.

Though that song is legit great. I can't stop listening to it.

I+stared+at+that+for+about+5+minutes+when+I+_c70c986ae058060c89d94c242ced4654.gif

How delightful!
Also, the picture associated with this comment is horribly ironic.

Nice meme, lad.

9/10.

Update of EVIL!

Greetings and smellutations, Backers!

You asked for it, and oh yeah, you’re going to GET it. Nasty villainous DLC, that is!
We’ve got some updates for you, so pardon our candor – it’s what happens when you work side by side with Risky Boots and her horrible hench-monsters the Tinkerbats for any length of time!
This is a hefty update because we’ve been up to NO GOOD in our studio of skullduggery!
First, it’s time to take a peek at the upcoming Risky Boots DLC, a huge add-on that is a literal game-changer. Next, we have an update on BACKER REWARDS, including the Tinkerbat Dance, Blue Shantae, and Classic Risky. So be sure to read the entire update – Risky Boots commands it!

You ARRR a Pirate!

Back in 200X, you all funded a stretch goal that enabled us to create an entirely new campaign for the bodacious buccaneer, Risky Boots!
Today we’d like to give you a preview of what you’ll be getting when this exciting new campaign launches THIS SUMMER:

809470c0e23f29b57604a03cb96cee5c_original.png

A Brand New Adventure!

In this brand new storyline, you’ll play the role of Risky Boots as she travels to the four corners of Sequin Land in search of components needed to deliver destruction on poor Sequin Land. Risky Boots DLC is filled with new puzzles, new enemies, and a new End Boss….
(Any guesses who it might be?).

63b5fc323d1f24cc86397388a3f2abd4_original.png

The Captain’s Cabin!

Risky’s base of operations is her ship’s cabin. From the comfort of her luxurious bathtub, Risky can order around her crewmen and decide where they should travel to next. Players will be able to sail to any of the “Shantae Mode” levels in any order - but the content found within those levels will be radically different this time around! More on that in a moment. For now, enjoy this Captain’s Cabin concept art!

New Moves and Cursed Magic!

If you played Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, you’ll be happy to know that Risky Boots DLC brings back the “Pirate Gear” style of play.
Risky will unlock new equipment as she progresses, which includes the Cannon (for multi-jumping), the Pirate Hat (for gliding) and some new gear like the Grappling Hook! If you liked Pirate’s Curse, you’ll feel right at home in this mode!

New Enemies!

Yar, matey – thar be monsters! Yes, Risky Boots will be facing new enemies, too!
We’re bringing back some fan-favorites, and we’ll touch on two of them today:

397e5a2e986a821ece24a402dc4e0e81_original.png

Wetman is back, and he’s gonna defend his watery turf with claws of snipping!
A sizable foe that can block attacks and attack with terrifying swiftness!

e39993aafddbd37aa59cbb9c877ebf9a_original.png

Batgal returns! Another of our favorite Game Boy combatants is back to whip players into a tizzy!
She’s ready to bring the pain, but Risky Boots is no pushover, so Batgal better keep on her toes!

Cristina Vee in the Booth!

Did you know that Cristina Vee is the voice of both Shantae AND Risky Boots? Yep, it’s true!
Cristina came by Mint Potion recording studios recently to voice Risky, and she slayed us all with another killer performance!
Risky has a lot of witty one-liners, and Cristina had us swabbing the deck with tears of laughter. We can’t wait for you to hear it!

Setting Sail this Summer!

The new Risky Boots campaign will arrive this summer, and as always Backers will be getting this DLC at no cost.
We’ll have more information on Risky’s Mode in our next update!

Exclusive Backer Reward: Tinkerbat Dance DLC

We’ve finished development of the Tinkerbat Transformation Dance! With this new addition, Shantae will be able to haggle with someone (or something) during her adventure to unlock this new Transformation Dance. As a Tinkerbat, Shantae can slash using a speedy scimitar, and glide by deploying a Tinker-Copter! The Tinkerbat Dance will work with Shantae Mode, Hero Mode, and Hard Core Mode.

This content was created exclusively for “Tinkerbat Tier” Backers ($55 and above), and will not be made available to the general public. The Tinkerbat DLC is being submitted to all gaming platforms for approval, and should be ready to roll soon! We’ll update you the moment codes start to arrive!

f70e3e50d514b17901532abaf5da27f7_original.png

ALSO: Please remember that with all DLC, you will receive the code (or codes) for the platform(s) that you previously selected. WayForward has to actually purchase these DLC codes in advance, and for this reason we are unable to freely swap codes between platforms. Thanks for understanding.

Reward Update!

We’re also putting the finishing touches on Blue Shantae and Classic Risky, and will soon begin work on the Drifter Blade attack!
The Collector’s Coin and Lenticular Poster is also under way, and we’re almost done lining up manufacturers for our Music CD, Shirt, and Art Book.
Of course, the playable Sky, Bolo, Rottytops are also in development, along with the Costume Modes! We’ve been busy!

Excitement Abounds!

We’re as excited as ever about these new Shantae: Half-Genie Hero modes and Backer Rewards!
It’s going to be a fun summer, and believe it or not, there are still surprises in store! See you next update, Backers!

Nice. This game could use some additional content, since it's as short as the previous ones.

Oh my goodness I'm hyped. I loved the weapons from Pirate's Curse and I'm glad they're making a comeback. I like the Grappling Hook already, but that could be just because I like a nice variety of tools in games. Also she has a throne in her bathtub because of course she would.

Also ten bucks says that the final boss of her campaign is either Shantae, Nega Shantae, Mimic piloting a mech he built or... The Pirate Master.

Why does Risky have periwinkle skin? Is she a zombie or demon pirate?

Her sword has a lot of range. That's great.

Also, holy shit @ that bathing screen.

Pirate Queen’s Quest On Deck!

Today marks the biggest day for our Kickstarter campaign since the game’s initial launch!
THIS IS THE BIG ONE! Risky Boots DLC is ready to launch, under the new official title “Shantae: Pirate Queen’s Quest”!

The game will be available worldwide on August 29th!
We really want to make a huge splash with this new mode, so PLEASE help us spread the word so we can make this a successful launch day!
This is premium (paid) content for the rest of the world, but free to Backers.
We want the public to understand that this is not merely an add-on character.
It’s a completely different game experience - new enemies, storyline, and abilities.

Risky Boots Codes!

4608bf6251a158c9ccf4d67169713a53_original.png

With Pirate Queen’s Quest launching publicly next week, we’re dedicating THIS WEEK to getting codes to Backers!
As before, we’re prioritizing Backers so that you’ll have time to play before anyone else!

We’ll start the distribution process TODAY, so keep an eye on your inbox!
As before, we apologize that there’s no way to post all of them simultaneously.
We have a lot of Backers around the globe, so we have to work with many external groups to handle the code acquisition and distribution.
It takes a few days to get the codes to everyone, so thanks for your patience!

Please keep it Spoiler-Free!

Many of you have asked if you can stream or post images and videos.
Yes, please do! But, we do ask that you post appropriate spoiler warnings on your video descriptions, and use tact when posting images.
Keep it spoiler-free so everyone can enjoy this awesome new content! Thanks!

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero – Pirate Queen’s Quest Official Trailer!

DLC is confirmed to be priced at $9.99 for all platforms. So excited for Tuesday.

Friends to the End!

Sky, Bolo, and Rotty to the Rescue!

4f0b5f67b7ba9bf9fd481191a5bbbdfb_original.png

Howdy Backers! We’ve got some special news for you today – a first look at our next major Half-Genie Hero expansion, “Friends to the End”!
Up until now, we’ve referred to this one as simply “friends mode”: the stretch goal that adds Sky, Bolo, and Rottytops as playable heroes.
Today we’re ready to pull back the curtain and show off this awesome new addition!

The Missing Piece of the Story!

Friends to the End takes place chronologically in the middle of Shantae’s storyline. Unlike the (possibly embellished) tale of Pirate Queen’s Quest, this new mode would be considered “official cannon”, and fills in a part of the narrative that we, as the audience, were previously not witness to.

e47045e4f991c93b6540a09c0db79166_original.png

Shantae has been turned to evil by the foul Risky Boots by way of a polarity-swapping machine, and is reborn as Nega-Shantae!
Sky, Bolo, and Rottytops must enter Shantae’s mind in order to rescue her consciousness from the “Nightmare Realm”!
A series of twisted memories designed to swallow Shantae whole.

f7f8dd7d0c3cae975df40ef27a526484_original.png

This will not be an easy task for the three adventurers, who lack both genie magic, and the ability to get along.

This translates into a brand new mode with three new heroes, a whole new story, and altered memories (revamped versions of existing levels) to explore and conquer.
The icing on the cake is a new final level, and a showdown against Nega-Shantae.

Friends Game Play!

For Friends to the End, you’ll be controlling Sky, Bolo, and Rotty all at the same time, swapping freely between heroes.
Each hero has a special ability that is useful for overcoming certain obstacles, but players are given a wide berth as to which character they want to use for the most part.
Let’s take a look at each character!

All About Sky

8341e4349e134f26246f79080243d622_original.png

Sky is quick and agile, and can make long jumps by using her bird Wrench as a glider.
Sky attacks by throwing seagulls, which are somewhat weak, but can hit at long range.
Her special ability is to toss eggs, which explode into instant platforms!
Finally, she can spend Dream Magic to summon an orbiting flock of birds for extra defense!
Sky is definitely the best character!

d8f74920cc9f03e6dcc3ddc893d0f860_original.png

All About Bolo

1621a35e98b2bf564f99a3eaae090761_original.png

Bolo deals heavy damage with his spiked Bolo Chain, which offers medium range and decent speed.
He can also fire a Spring Claw at odd angles to knock away annoying airborne enemies.
His special ability is to latch onto certain objects with his Spring Claw, which lets him to swing around freely like some sort of bionic ninja!
To hit distant enemies, Bolo spends Dream Magic to toss a pong-style Spike Ball, which bounces diagonally at high speed.
Bolo is definitely the best character!

All About Rottytops

c707dc476297d991bf1945e15d9b2fe3_original.png

Rotty attacks by removing her zombie leg and using it as a club, dealing massive damage at short range.
Her special move is the Head Toss.
Rotty can aim her head freely in any direction, and toss it through certain barriers and over or under obstacles.
Anywhere her head safely lands, she can reform.
By spending Dream Magic, Rottytops can eat a brain to replenish her Hearts!
Rottytops is definitely the best character!

Leveling Up!

From a design perspective, Friends to the End differs from Shantae and Risky’s modes in that the power up system exists “in the field”.
There are no menus or inventory to manage. Collecting Gems will cause a hero to LEVEL UP, increasing their attack speed and damage dealt.
Getting hit by enemies incurs a penalty, dropping the power level.
Enemies and Bosses have been tailored around these new concepts, dropping health and Gems to feed the player’s needs.
You could say that "Friends to the End" is part puzzle game, part action game, and part player management.

Final Thoughts!

For those curious about the status of our physical rewards.
We need to delay just a bit more on the art book and music CD so that we can include the extra artwork and music from "Friends to the End” and “Costume Mode”.
We won’t be able to give a solid delivery date until everything is in hand, since it all will ship together.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thank you, and get excited for Friends to the End!

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero – Friends to the End Official Trailer!

I'm heading back in again.

I just realized Rotty can eat a brain to replenish her health and suddenly I am very concerned/disappointed in her. (Cause you know, wild zombies are the ones who eat brains and stuff and I'm just like 'Oh no Rotty what are you doing??')

Yeah, it's pretty gross.

Shantae Costume Pack DLC draws near!

f72e0d52661322d3c478ee936915342f_original.png

A Stylish Game-Changer!

Welcome friends! Today we’re diving into the Costume Pack DLC!
This is the FINAL Stretch Goal for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, and it will be Ret-2-Go in just a few weeks!

This DLC contains three entirely new adventures starring Ninja Shantae, Beach Shantae, and Officer Shantae.
Each of these stand-alone modes contains a full “what-if” storyline, new moves, voices, and character artwork.
Let’s take a closer look at these flashy game-changing modes!

c3c7e96eb766a9a8d476bc348394dd47_original.png

Ninja Mode!

Shantae decides to become a become a Ninja Master - but first she must undergo intense training!
Speed, Stealth, Self-control! She must learn the way of the ninja to defeat her greatest foe.

As a ninja, Shantae moves at super speed.
This time out she can’t transform, but she can wall jump, teleport, and throw kunai & throwing stars at enemies.
Collect Gems to power up your moves, and search out new Dream Squid locations in hopes of finding them all.
Do that, and you’ll unlock exciting Ninja themed win screen images.

cd10c9a51cb7bfa47d5ab8e9f8699e5f_original.png

Beach Mode!

Shantae finally takes a day off, and her heart is set on finding the "Very Best Beach" in all of Sequin Land!
However, rival sunbathers, competitive shell collectors, and other “shallow” minded foes get between Shantae and her fun day in the sun.

In this mode, you’ll play as Shantae in her swimsuit!
She attacks with her ponytail as per usual, but also use a bouncing Beach Ball Attack to hit distant targets.
Dancing is replaced by a bubble move, which allows Shantae to float through the air!
Just don’t let her bubble pop - or she’ll plummet to the ground!
In water, Beach Shantae moves at high speed. So far, so good! What’s the catch? Is there a catch?

Yes, here’s the catch - the sun, it burns! Shantae’s delicate skin is not used to all this exposure to the elements (please humor us on this one)!
Over time, she’ll begin to heat up and eventually will begin to take Burn Damage.
To combat this problem, players will be able to cool her off by collecting sunscreen placed around the levels, or by taking a quick dip!
Help Shantae beat the heat and unlock the best win screens!

(Safety Tip: Swimming doesn’t actually protect a person from sunburn. In some cases, it can make it worse. Beware, and be aware).

54be7fce9fc91aa32099a13b4f854ecc_original.png

Officer Mode!

Shantae gets a crossover event with Patricia Wagon from WayForward’s own Mighty Switch Force series!

As an officer of the law, Shantae is tasked with re-capturing the escaped Space Hooligans and clearing each stage!

In her Officer Costume, Shantae can use the Siren Helmet to “Switch Up” solid blocks scattered about each stage.
Controlling the position of these blocks will allow her to solve puzzles and navigate around.
Just don’t let her get smashed into the screen!
Shantae also gets an upgradable Pellet Gun in place of her usual ponytail attack, useful for blasting monsters to shreds.

Unlike the “Mighty Switch Force” games, Shantae won’t have to collect every Hooligan to clear a stage.
However, collecting them all and getting the best times will unlock special win screens, so try your best!

Code Distribution for Costume Pack Coming Soon!

We’ll be back in a couple of weeks to discuss code distribution!
As always, our goal is is to deliver the Costume Pack DLC to Backers well before it goes public.
Codes have been requested, and you can expect us to turn the town upside down in order to make that happen.
By now you know that it doesn’t always go to plan, but please know that we do everything in our power to serve Backers first!

30b7b096bc1f69a7bf1c889d18f8222e_original.png

Backer Sketches!
If you backed at the “Original Sketch” tier, keep an eye on your mailbox (yes, that thing that exists in the real world).
Sketches are heading your way! We will email each Sketch Backer individually, and will provide a tracking number for you.
They’re coming in sturdy do-not-bend envelopes to ensure they’re well protected.

Each sketch request was created personally by Shantae series director Matt Bozon for that specific Backer!
In cases where the request was… shall we say... “out of bounds”, he improvised.
But, we’re pretty sure you’ll love what he came up with!
Some are marker drawings, others are in pencil, and all are signed.
We hope you’ll treasure your original sketch!
