Filia
So I started playing this game a few days ago and I can't find a character I like enough to make my secondary. I am currently playing Filia which I love because of her somewhat simple combo game and jack-of-all traits vibe. Valentine looked like a good choice but she seems very grounded + she doesn't have an air-dash. Am I wrong about this? Could I get some suggestions on aerial-combo heavy characters?

Yeah, Valentine, who has both a double jump and an airdash.

Painwheel is literally a flight character, so you might want to look into her.

I would consider Valentine the best air character in the game. Painwheel can fly and has powerful air combos, but her air-to-air game is one of the weaker among the cast, so her game plan is mostly to use flight to get in on a grounded opponent and launch them mid-combo. If you are looking to start combos mid-air you'd want to look into Fukua or (again) Valentine.

Worth suggesting (head-on) Ms. Fortune as well. She has great mobility (double jump + air dash) and is pretty easy to learn. There is a lot of overlap between her and Filia though as they both do very similar things. If you were going to play this team I'd suggest Ms. Fortune (H Fiber)/Filia (H Hairball). Her combos are pretty simple as are her resets though she doesn't have great air-to-airs (she is good vs grounded opponents though).

Valentine does sound like the ideal choice based on what little you've said. She is probably the most aerial character in the cast with the best mobility as well. She also works well with Filia as she likes having a DP assist to make up for her poor defense. I'd go for Val (cr.MK or Vial Toss)/Filia (H Updo). She has some reasonably simple combos though both she and Ms. Fortune rely on air-dashing in their combos a lot which can be hard when you're just starting. If you've played Filia though you should be used to that.

Thanks for the insight everyone, much appreciated considering this is my first post on this forum(coming from SSBM).

Hush now buddy,I recommend you to stick solo until you feel comfortable with filia, like really comfortable. By the time you are ready to play duos you'll probably get a good feel of the cast by facing them and your desicion would be much better
