Just a friendly reminder that buying this piece of shit sends the message to Capcom that they can just keep doing what they're doing and there will still be suckers lining up for it.

Reminder that people should buy what they want for the reasons they want it, public opinion or practices be damned.

Seriously, this game looks really fun regardless of the other aesthetic stuff which dont mean shit to the main meat of the game. Not having your favorites or having weird faces is irrelevant 90% of the time since you are here to see wild crazy shenaniains, not marvel at every pixel of Arthur's chin hairs.

People are guying to buy it because its Marvel vs Capcom. There's nothing you can do to stop it. Its gonna sell and probably be huge as always.

Sorry if im rambling its like 5 am in the morning, but im extremely worn out about the dead horse beating over the same stuff over the last few months. Like...geez.

People said the same shit about SFV.

It flopped. Hard.

Because of a large multitude of problems including online, frames, gameplay, and content. Pretty much everything wrong with mvci is aesthetic and roster based, both of which were addressed. Roster is going to be expanded KI style supposedly, so look at the roster a year or 2 from now. As for the art style, eh. I don't think it's awful as people make it out to be, its just the comic style was so good. Faces and stuff are already being fixed.

Honestly they just. Need to have a good netcode and the game will be solid. If the net sucks, then yeah I can see it tanking.

We got one week left. Gameplay looks good enough to convert contractors from what I've seen. I'm sure top Level stuff will make people hype.

SFV was yelled at over technical issues and lack of content

MVCI is being yelled at because "ew look at Chun-Li's/Dante's face, that's not swimsuit edition ready" and also "wah, they are using assets from the only other game in the series with 3D models and they didn't give me my character which hasn't been used in comics for years (although no X-Men i would say is a valid negative)"

The roster issues DO persist (30 chars when almost 20 gives you that "MEH" feeling isn't great), the content and technical issues are yet to be seen and the bad rep for bullshit DLC practices is well deserved

MvCi is being yelled at for far, far, far more reasons than just visuals. If that's the only complaint you've heard then you have not been paying attention.
  • Mechanics are dumbed down to the point where it's not even recognizable as Mahvel anymore
  • Capcom's ongoing war against zoning, removing entire playstyles from the game
  • Roster contains a whopping 5 characters who aren't ctrl-c ctrl-v, yet for all that recycling it's somehow still smaller than vanilla MvC3
  • More day 1 DLC horseshit and we already know they have too many plans to keep inflating that pricetag
  • That leaked video about how they're going to bribe TOs to push it ahead of other games, as well as making Capcom Cup 87.5% wifi warriors
  • Capcom's PR openly patronizing their playerbase by saying that characters are "just functions" and "modern Marvel fans don't even remember the X-Men"
  • Really just an overall lack of any sign that Capcom has learned from any of their past mistakes!

  • Marvel is just flashy crazy bullshit that is balanced by lack of balance. You might be thinking of guilty gear.
  • Forcing someone's to play smarter instead of pure runaway projectile spam is not even something that should be considered a problem. May I remind you ChrisG made the tournament scene stale for a.long time thanks to his shenanigans? It was boring to watch and frustrating to play.
  • ....and? It's a sequel game. What is that even supposed to mean? Look at Tekken 7 and Soul.Calibur 5. The roster doesn't need to be huge because if you forget, we have minus one slot for.teams
  • Yeah that's bullshit, can't argue.with that.
  • Already discussed this earlier, will comment on it later, on the phone right now.

I don't know what people thought of SFV's gameplay weeks prior to launch. Staling is a move that I have no idea which way it will go, and fullscreen proximity guard is just bad.

Also, isn't your argument that just because the game looks bad doesn't mean it is? And now saying "Marvel is about flashiness" when we just had a convo about how all the Level 3s don't do justice to the characters or don't look hype or scary?

And I understand that, balance-wise, everything should be crazy until you see everything else, but, like... MvC2 isn't balanced. And it is fun to play, so gameplay looking good doesn't automatically mean wide variety of viable characters.

It's not beating a Dead Horse if it's still relevant. If you deem this worth the cost of admission, let's assume $60, fine, but that also means that whatever lack of content they have, or feature, or move or music or behavior or whichever they leave out at release, you paid for. You are paying for a license to play a product with that level of effort put into it.

Voting with your wallet matters.

Some people care about the aesthetic, and some people play the game for their favorites and may not have any other character that they enjoy as much, or enjoy enough to actually care to play the game. Not everyone will suck it up and pick a character they don't enjoy or identify with because it _looks_ fun. That doesn't mean the characters are fun to that person in particular. It's relevant.

So if the roster isn't full of things I'd like, why would I buy it now and not a year or 2 from now? This goes for any game, mind you.

How can I be so sure there's even something I like a year or 2 down the road, either? Why is that a save for the product being worth buying?

We got one week left. Gameplay looks good enough to convert contractors from what I've seen. I'm sure top Level stuff will make people hype.
Top level is great, but it won't guarantee everyone gets on board. Base systems have to feel good and proper.

How... What?

Zoning is a real strategy. Whether or not someone likes to watch it, doesn't mean it should be taken away or nerfed. We don't fully understand all of the implications of pushblock reflect, but considering it doesn't seem to take a resource, I'm pretty keen on it looking like it naturally turns Projectiles into a guessing game (Will you chase behind the projectile? In front? Will you tag? what if they reflect?) instead of area control.

I didn't necessarily want to pick at you but I don't think a lot of these reasons are good for justifying whether the game is good, personally?

I can totally ignore the roster issues, considering my previous opinion of looking forward to all the changes to each character and their new tools. I don't think it's worth ignoring that the "golden standard" set for solid netplay has been set by budget or indie titles-- Iron Galaxy's GGPO ports, Skullgirls, and Killer Instinct. Even Rising Thunder was playable with a variety of people because it implemented GGPO (because it was a test bed for GGPO 3 :^)

I DO think that promising a season pass of characters isn't too worrying, but showcasing one of them several months-- not like 2 weeks before the game comes out, makes me wonder what else is pre-produced and how much is cut to make DLC, if at all. I can't assume they did, but it makes me wonder whether or not that's even true.

I DO think that input lag as a whole is worrysome. If it exists, it is on purpose in some fashion. Is it Unreal? Why is it in the game? What problem does it solve? And if it is the toolchain or engine, are there reasonable ways to reduce it?

I DO think that after Street Fighter V, we should look at what the game comes with out of the box and if it's worth messin' around as a community. I'm still hella gonna try it, but when you go all in w/ $60 and then later say "oh man this kinda blows", they still got the sale.

That being said, play the games you love and think are fun. If you do think it's worth paying outright for, then that's AWESOME. I look at all the new tools that characters have gotten, and how that rounds them out in both Solo and Duo situations, and those have me EXCITED, but I definitely think that the details they fudge up in MvC:I that they took quite a bit of care looking for in UMvC3 definitely make the case of "effort" for me, or at least, their budget and scheduling.

Marvel 2's moveset design was incredibly solid, and its' base mechanics had incredible game design fundamentals and knowledge built up over Capcom's long history of fighting game design.

It was unbalanced because it was rushed, but part of the reason it managed to work was because of those rock-solid fundamentals underneath the evolving meta. It's a very, very smart game, and not by accident.

The same can't be said for Marvel 3 onwards, which is indeed just slapped together movesets on top of poorly conceived mechanics because all of Capcom's talent left and now they just outsource everything.

  • I didn't say anything about balance?
  • You can nerf Morridoom without completely removing zoning from the game. And if you're gonna say that all zoning is "pure runaway projectile spam" and the unga playstyles Capcom is trying to pidgeonhole everyone into are necessarily smarter... lol, yeah, okay then.
  • T7 and SC5 introduced plenty of new characters, MvCi is almost all cut and paste. I'm not just talking about the fact that the roster is smaller, I'm talking about the fact that there's not enough new stuff to justify it. If almost all the roster is recycled, I might as well just go play the game it recycled from.

That's because according to the title of the game, the flashiness is all inside the infinity stones and tag mechanics. Which is why many people are starting to warm up to the game (some more begrudgingly than others) the more they see of it. its the stones which are going to be the hype factors of the match, from Time Stone combos at the speed of light to Soul Stone Resurrection double teaming. Reality stone combos opening up new routes or Space Stone lockdowns. THAT'S where all the crazy flashy BS marvel is known for is going to be.

Really long well thought out out post.
It should be noted that to reflect a projectile with Advancing Guard it has to be a Perfect Advancing Guard; in other words, it must be Just Framed in a game with an already fast point and loads of mix up and cross over options. It may be hard for even top players to just pull it off without some good guesswork.

But your other points are indeed solid. I just got really really weary of all the negativity everywhere recently. Not in just this game but several others with similar nitpicks. I'm of the opinion that gameplay in the end is all that truly matters in just about any fighting game. As long as its fun/interesting/engaging and the game actually works (And if online is available, have very good online), everything else is secondary. However, I realize that mindset isnt the common playerbase's. There's a lot of stuff I need to take account for, especially outside the game itself.

As far as I know there are two, maybe 3 anti zoning mechanics found so far; Perfect Advancing Guard, Proximity Guard, and the chip damage deterioration. The Advancing Guard thing doesnt look too useful against beams from the footage i've seen, and as for fireballs...
tumblr_ot7wznWszi1ua3ziio1_400.gif

Yeah I think they'll be just fine.

As for the chipping mechanic We only have theories on it for now, but both theories can be simply avoided by mixing up your arsenal or actually getting a hit in. Or simply pause the offense for a second or 2 and let them make a mistake and punish them for it.

Proximity Guard is a feature im unfamiliar with; I was too young to be good at fighters when I had 2 on the ps2 and the feature was absent in the later entries. I'll have to do more research on it.

Less Viable =/= Unviable. Trust, people will find ways to zone in any game.Making it less good isnt going to trash it forever, just make it less of a brutal hellzone.

Completely different format here. MVC3 was 3v3, here is 2v2. That alone changes things for a ton of characters. And they aren't all the same either; Many of them have their moves changed around or health and damage adjustments to fit this. That's like saying (just as an example) why would I play Brawl when I can just go back to melee for the same characters? They are two different beasts, and judging them by familiar faces isn't exactly the best way to do it.

Just curious, do you have any interesting reads or video on this? I keep hearing about good fighting game design, but I really only know about obvious bad game design decisions(like infinites, braindead os, and incredibly lopsided matchups).

I'm tempted to summon mike Z on this topic, but i could be banned for it

why is it forbidden

he'd either give constructive criticism or shit on the game

you'd need a sizable sandwich offering to truly appease Mike Z's great hunger
and an even greater one to actually get him to say anything

Not about Marvel specifically, but if you've never seen Mike Z's panel on fighting game design you should definitely watch it.

I know I can't spell, but I'm... not really seeing the--- oh. hah. Som'in I would of done honestly.

yeah. it's a minor mistake. Sure it should have been caught before it got tossed out into the public but still, nothing to get all super twisted out of shape over.

also Kit pls don't die via Mike Z's Blodia Punch.

I heard the leaks for monster hunter person but who is that other character?

Lady Death

Lady Death
AKA the love interest of both Deadpool and Thanos
She seems like a very unlikely dlc character but maybe in the story or background of a stage? This could just be a model viewer idk if shes actually a playable character.

But then again I don't know anything about her.

eh?????????????

Lady Death??????

Very Left Field pick if you ask me. She's a very very uncommon character even in the recent DeadPool Comics. Sure she pops up once in a while when Wade is about to die or the mini arc where Deadpool and... Than... oh... that's why. Thanos and Deadpool looked for Death to win back her love only to have Thanos cursed to never die and getting the shit kicked out of him by Captain Deadpool [aka Deadpool with power cosmic]
