Splatoon

ABXY is Chirpy Chips. They changed the names of most of the bands in the English version. (Off the Hook, for instance, is The Tentacles in Japan.)
 
That'll show me. I knew Off The Hook had a different name but I didn’t think they'd bring one of the old bands back.
 
This cursed my eyes and ears and took 10 years off my life.

Ah, I missed a couple promo images for octo earlier. The first one is from the DLC site, and the second one is... just on the wiki, I don't know where it's actually from.

From the trailer I was thinking octogirl's shoes are Zombie Hi-Horses, but with a better look I think they're unreleased ones.

Also the uh... microlife headphones are kinda clipping through octoboy's mohawk. >.> Interestingly, the official render shows them underneath the mohawk like it's loose, so I expect it to just flail around and get in his eyes.

Our research appears to be on the nose this time: the H-3 Nozzlenose D to be precise – available tonight! This version of the H-3 Nozzlenose has the same stats, but new flair. This is very handy when showing it off to your friends…not that scientists such as myself value such things…harrumph. Rounding out the kit are Suction Bombs (which we hear really “suck” for your opponent) and Ink Armor to help the fortitude of your fellow squid-mates.
 
Finished watching LP of Splatoon, definitely see why people like it now, and now I can also play Splatoon 2 without being lost!
Sucks though 'cuz I couldn't hear the OST because the guy was talking all the time.

I recommend checking out the soundtrack on YouTube when you've got the time. It's some good stuff.

Uhh juggle this playlist and this playlist. First one has more songs but doesn't have Chirpy Chips, second one is missing some songs (notably the ones with multiple variants like Octo Valley) but tells you what in-game bands they are.

Both of them also have a couple songs in translated Japanese names, but they got the JP names for different songs between the two playlists...?

Splatoon 2's soundtrack is overall better... Octocool's pretty good but I think Turquoise October is less "wacky for the sake of it" and less super-energized. Squid Squad is mediocre, Wet Floor is way better. Off The Hook also have a better roster of songs than Squid Sisters, though I still think Ink Me Up is the best (OG Calamari Inkantation is seriously overrated, fight me).

The story of Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion unfolds in a huge test facility deep underground. Who made this facility and for what purpose is veiled in mystery. The area is completely isolated from the outside world, as if time stopped long ago. Objects from the old world drift here and there, like relics of a bygone past.

Our protagonist doesn't even have a real name. Their name is a number.

The protagonist in Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion is No. 10,008, aka Agent 8. Agent 8 has lost its memory—it doesn’t remember who it is or how it ended up underground. While it seems that most Ocarians are pure evil, it appears this one has had its very nature changed somehow by having heard the Squid Sisters’ Calamari Inkantation. It’s up to you to help this lost Octoling escape from this mysterious subterranean world.

Also who else is uncomfortable by the fact Agent 8 is referred to as "it"? Or is it just me?
 
Those look like translations of the Japanese tweets, like what it'd look like if I cleaned up the broken english I got when I ran them through Google Translate. Pretty sure Japan has a gender-neutral word equivalent to he/she, I'm guessing that's translated as "it" here.

I did not look at "No. 10008" as the proper name of Agent 8. That would cast the experiments as very long-running, and definitely not Cuttlefish's doing. That does tie into a couple of the other tweets, so have some broken english.

【Octo】 The story of the story is a huge experiment facility deep underground.
Everything is mysterious as to who, for what purpose it made.
It seems as if the time has stopped as it seems to be a space separated from the outside world.

[Octo] "Station" where the deep sea Metro stops.
Each station is directly connected to the experimental facility, and the mechanism of that hand attacks No. 8.
There are various stages of accomplishment depending on the station, there seems to be a stage to challenge only with special weapons.
Leverage various buki and techniques and aim for the ground!

As for the residents of the area:

【Octo】 It is indispensable for the movement of the underground world, this metro "Deep Sea Metro".
The underground ecosystem seems to have evolved independently in a closed space, and the appearance of passengers is quite different from the residents on the ground.
It looks a little scary, but it seems not to be bad people.

Admittedly I got this info from the official Splatoon Tumblr. So the whole broken English thing can be traced back to there.
 
On a side note, I've been taking the Mini Splatling out for a spin and I love how fast it is. I do like the normal Splatlings but my only complaint about them is that I don't like how slow it is. At least for me. I like how fast it charges, how fast it fires and how fast it covers ground.
 
Hell, didn't the Inkling protagonist have no name either? Cap'n Cuttlefish and Marie reply to them as the "Agents" and say "I'm going to take your moment of silence as a yes." Further proof why the silent protagonist trope is overrated.

The silent protagonist can be done right in some cases. Like, Link. Or maybe even Gordon Freeman. Barebones examples sure, but the reason why the Agents are silent is because they're our character or Inkling. And while they can be confirmed to be a boy or girl, the Inkling we create fills the void, they're silent yes, but only because it's our Inkling. It's why they don't say things. Nintendo isn't just going to go and write dialogue for the Agents just because the "silent protagonist trope is overrated".

That's why the Agents are silent. They're our way of experiencing Story Mode. And while they are part of the story, they're mostly a way of seeing the events of the story unfold.

This is also alluded to in one of the scrolls in Splatoon 2, apparently
It basically talks about how those Octarians who heard the Calamari Inkantation in Splatoon 1 were changed forever, and you can see Marina in the crowd. So, it appears the implications at all Octarians are Brainwashed (Except Octavio) are strong as shit

Something about that is very odd though, as a sunken scroll in the first game said octarians and inklings used to be allies, and you can see Octavio and cuttlefish in a picture together.

Been trying to get back into Splatoon for the octo expansion and holy shit
I really really wish I could play the ranked game modes unranked.
I find them really fun and all, but I just about cried when, after a 5 game losing streak, I had 2 idiots pulling a fuckin' party behind the spawn while the enemy team rides the tower to victory. I got demoted for that.

*sigh* I'm sorry, I just needed to vent.
 
I love this Salmon Run. Double dualies double blasters. If only it was Dark Tetras instead of regular Dualies, then we'd have all the weird ones.

But uh, I don't love when you revive the rest of your crew with a Stingray in Wave 3 High Tide and none of them get them get the hint to use their specials, then you die to a very AoE-able horde.
 
Please give us hats when transformed, Splatoon devs

Are Pearl, a.k.a. MC.Princess, and Marina, a.k.a DJ_Hyperfresh, aiding the Octolings? Rumor has it they’ll help Agent 8 escape from the underground via wireless connection from above. We’ve also heard that the untold story of how ‘Off the Hook’ was formed may also be revealed…

Octolings in Inkopolis Plaza? This is highly irregular! It looks like they’ll be joining in on Regular and Ranked Battles, and they’ll have the same stats and abilities as an Inkling. Because of their similar sizes, they’ll also be able to wear the same gear as well.

Once you’ve helped Agent 8 reach the surface and completed the Octo Expansion, you’ll unlock the ability to play as one of these tentacled terrors.

Agent 8 will face over 80 tough tests on the journey out of the underground. With a little help from ‘Off the Hook’ though, Agent 8 will be able to skip the tests that are just too difficult. And don’t worry, even if you skip some tests you’ll still be able to play as an Octoling once you escape the underground.

Totally called unlockable Octolings all those months ago!

This is Cap'n Cuttlefish, leader of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, which secretly protects the world of Inklings from Octarian forces. He looks very old, but won fame as a brave fighter. Along with his apprentice Agent 3, he’s been out on patrol. Unfortunately, it looks like he somehow strayed into this underground world and lost track of Agent 3 as well.
But unfortunately he got lost in this place. At least he and Agent 8 have that in common.

There's a blobfish plushie and a blobfish in the background! (Yes this is important)

In order to move around the underground world, a subway system called Deepsea Metro is essential. The ecosystem of the underground seems to have developed uniquely within its closed environment. Therefore, passengers you can see in the subway look quite different from residents above ground. And while they look a bit grim, it seems they’re not bad guys.

The Metro is not only the may way of traveling around, it also serves as a way to get from mission to mission. It's basically the mission hub until we can find out more info about it.

This is one of the stations where Deepsea Metro stops. Each station is directly connected to a respective test facility in which various tests await Agent 8. Each station will offer a unique test; for example, there appears to be a test in which you must clear an area only using special weapons.
 
Oh yeah, I forgot that one of the tweets said Cuttlefish had gotten lost. I think I wanted to forget 'cause it's stupid. :P

Aside from that, analyzing the long Direct preview and not just the trailer showed an area that looked like the standard "find stuff in this hub" from Splatoon campaigns, but also terminals that take 100 credits to go through and start a mission.
