So, I have been playing Pokemon since I was nine. 3 years ago I stepped up my game and started to do it competitively. I was wondering, wether some other Pokemon players play SG aswell :)

Never really played past Heart Gold version which imo was the best i i played since you can go to both Kanto and Johto regions, 16 gym leaders, and even battle Red in the end in a fitting climactic battle.

Yellow version still is very special though since it has more emphasis to the anime version and you had Pikachu follow you around making various expressions.

Tried getting into competitive battling a while ago but I just prefer collecting/hoarding/trading useless shiny Pokemon. Like seriously 300+ hours in B2 of beating the game then running around in grass. Same with B1
and HG
and Pearl
I'm going to do a Ruby speedrun soon I think.

Played just about every main game since Red & Blue, the only exceptions being Crystal, Platinum, and the second Black & White games. I don't play many of the spin-offs anymore, but I still love the core games. My favorite would probably be Sapphire/Emerald, due to the advent of abilities, a host of improvements, and what I consider the best post-game content so far (Regi hunting, anyone?). Gold/Silver is a very close second though.

I don't really play competitively, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy composing teams of six for future use
...not that they actually get any use :(

Pretty much this.

Pokemon Pearl took about 500 hours away from life :(

Was worth it though! I also plan on buying X when it comes out.

How bout them MEGALUTIONS? Here's hoping a Megalution for every starter family :D Blastoise Tank? Serperior flying serpent? Charizard elder dragon? Hell to the yes!

Charizard elder dragon would be really cool!

I still play pokemon (not so much with gen 2 since I didnt have the money for it as a kid).

I love gen 5. it has some of the best pokemon designs (despite what gen-whiners say)

I agree wholeheartedly! Some of my favourite pokemon are Gen 5 (Mienshao, Krookodile, Chandelure). The reason I think I liked gen 5 as much as I did was because gen 4 sucked for me... It just didn't feel that great to me... Only thing it did for me was provide Berry-farming...

(If anyone that has any influence over Gamefreak's decisions in pokemon is seeing this, PLEASE beg to put Berries back in like they were in Gen 3 and 4... Gen 5's excuse for berry collecting is pitiful...)

Let's not forget Galvantula, Bisharp, Braviary, Lilligant and OH SO MUCH MORE!

TBH, I never cared for the berry stuff as a kid. What I did care was item management, and Gen 5 has the best item management in a pokemon game. EVER. Anyone who disagrees is a liar. The biggest liar!

AND Whimsicott. It's actually taken my official "favourite pokemon" spot from my previous favourite which was Ninetales. It's just so god damn adorable and awesome in battle... I can't get enough of it.

And I can understand that I'm the very small minority when it comes to the whole berry thing. Not a lot of people like the process of having to take care of berries. But you bring up a good point in item management for Gen 5. It is probably the greatest to date. I mean they had 4 generations to get it right for christ's sake. Especially the ability to register more than 1 item. That blew my mind. I could even register certain parts of the menu to the button. That kicked ass! They better not only include that in gen 6, but expand upon it.

Whimsicott is just happiness. And joy. And love. Whimsicott for poke-president. (after lilligant of course) And lest we forget the butt-winged Victini!

After I saw the auto-sort in Black 1 I was like "best Pokemon ever. Don't need to see anything else. This is the best. every generation can go home." Gen 5 is what rekindled my love for pokemon.

Same. I wonder if this is universal? There are so few Pokemon I like from gen 4 and the games themselves are decent I guess but nowhere near as good as any of the others. Going from one of those games to gen 5 is like activating turbo-mode in terms of battle speed etc.

Really digging the Mega Evolutions.
Hope we get a lot more soon!
There was a rumor that all past starters would get a Mega Evolution.
And Gengar & Banette.

I also really enjoyed Gen 5

I think it really is universal. Because lemme tell you, Gen 3 was my golden Pokemon age... I was old enough to know wtf was going on and learn mechanics and such, but young enough to become emotionally connected and develop nostalgia for it. Gen 3 was downright amazing. AND THEN they follow it up with a gen like gen 4? It's like going to an amusement park, riding the BEST RIDE THERE IS and then going on the newest ride that totally sucks. But the amusement park owners were like "Oh shit, we done fucked up." and made a ride that puts the other one to shame and is just as good as the other good ones, but feels 100 times more because of its comparison to the gen 4 ride.

Anyways, Gen 5: awesome. Gen 3: awesome. Gen 4: Wtf nintendo... wtf

Just saying MegaAbsol looks amazing.

Gen 1's amazing, Gen 2's amazing, Gen 3's lousy, Gen 4's pretty alright, Gen 5's AMAZING, Gen 6 is looking ehhhhh....

And Mega Evolutions are dumb. Really dumb. Fo real.

Gosh dang, do I loves me some Pokémon.

X and Y are lookin' pretty damn promising to me so far - I've not really actively disliked any of the new Pokémon (though goddamn that nose-bird) or mechanics (but jesus mega-evos are pointless). Thing I'm lookin' forward a lot too, though, is the music. Gen V's music's the only music that's really stood out to me since Gen II's, so I'm hoping they'll keep up that standard.

Ya'll getting X or Y?

To address DDB: ur dum
To address Father Gav: I'm getting X because fuck yes forest spirit.
To address the Pokemon direct that literally came out just a couple hours ago: SDHFOUABVAOSUDBGDSFSDPIOUHSBDPIHFASBFOSHFSDFBSHODIHGFAC BXOVHDSITWEA VXZOIVHSIFNLFBSPDIFHSFABSDFBSPDHFSFDDP

Fuck yes!

Agreed!

I'll start THE UNPOPULAR (read: popular) OPINION that Megacharizard is kinda lame. Venasaur and Blastoise are bomb-ass, though!

I was more freaking out about them mentioning that every freaking pokemon will have a megalution :O Fuck yes Whimsicott gets a megalution? WHOOOOOOOOOO!

But yes, ranking the current megalutions in order of favourite to least favourite would be this:
Blastoise
Charizard
Venusaur

Admittedly, I hoped Blastoise turned into a tank, but fuck it, it looks fucking amazing.

Oh, hot damn, really? I haven't actually watched the ND, just watched JWittz' video...
... and assumed that was all.

MegaWeavile, here we go!

LOL! "Six miles" Jesus that just SCREAMS badass.

But yes, they mentioned that every pokemon (They might actually mean every fully evolved pokemon) would get a megalution on Nintendo Direct. MegaScizor? MegaExcadrill? and may MegaArceus have mercy on this world should we inevitably find out how disgustingly powerful MegaGarchomp is going to be... Holy shit...

HOW ADORABLE WILL MEGAPACHIIRISU BE?!

My take on the Megalutions (yes, that's what I call them) I've seen:

Mega Venasaur - Not a huge change, but pretty cool
Mega Charizard - Isn't this just a mix of Garchomp and Vanilla Charzard? (It's okay, I guess...)
Mega Blastoise - HOLY HECK!!! Don't point those blasters at me!!! (Cool design)
Mega Mewtwo - ...dumb...
Mega Blaziken - That is pure, diluted, unadulterated awesome  That Megalution will be MINE!!!
Mega Lucario - Even cooler than Mega Blaziken, if only because I can imagine that the red on its paws is from the brutal battles he has won... yeah I'm insane, so?
Mega Ampharos - Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks that this is just Vanilla Ampharos with Reshiram's hair... mane... whatever it's called.
Mega Mawile - Pretty cool, but I thought the point was for the smaller part to be cute... it's kinda scary now.
Mega Absol - OHMYBUTTERFILLEDGYMSOCKS that is an incredible design! I already really liked Vanilla Absol's design, for having a menacing and dangerous sort of look to it, but now it looks dangerous, menacing, and FAAAAAAABULOUS!!! The Yin-Yang thing on its face, the wings, the featheriness, it all works so well!

Overall, I'm looking forward to seeing the Megalutions in action... especially the ones I like so much. :D

I'm glad we get two starters, but I was hoping there'd be more than just Gen 1.
Oh well whatever, I'm sure there's someway to get the others.

Also anyone wanna bet that Gewunners will still complain about this, despite the fact you have Gen 1 starters.

Oh, they'll moan and complain. They'll always find SOMETHING t'complain about.

"MEGA EVOLUTIONS ARE TOO COMPLICATED AND LOOK STUPID!"
"WHY EVEN BOTHER WITH NEW STARTERS IF YOU CAN GET SUPERIOR GEN 1 STARTERS?!"
"GODDAMN, SKRELP IS JUST A DEAD HORSEA - DEAD LIKE YOU, NINTENDO!"

And it goes on and on.

Hey, that's my word. Give it back.

Gewunners are going to bitch about how it'll be the only gen 1 pokemon you'll get until you beat the game in which there will be more pokemon available.

I honestly thought no one else would call them Megalutions besides myself. :p Even before I looked at discussions about them (i.e. this one, and nothing else), I started calling them Megalutions.

Yeah, first day they existed I was like "Woah man... Megalutions..."

Just like eeveelutions. It just feels natural to say it.

True. Sorta like a reverse Digimon, where "Digi-" was placed at the beginning of a bunch of words, whereas Pokemon fans place "-lutions" at the end of words.

Now we just need Digilutions, and the circle will be complete.

I heard a rumor somewhere that Gengar would get a Mega Evolution too?
Let's hope that's true too.

Pokemon that really need Megalutions are the ones I'm concerned about.
Maybe they could Megavolve Abomasnow to be
Ya know.
Good.

That's disgusting... And that's when I realized that Eeveelutions will most likely get Megalutions...

Megeeveelutions...

Quoting from Nintendo Direct "Every single pokemon gets a mega evolution"

So yes. Gengar will get a megalution. Even obamasnow

Well hey, maybe Flareon will finally have some use!

Hey! I can make Flareon useful! Just takes some TLC. Aww who am I kidding...

Even Eevee is more useful than that thing... Just throw a eviolite on it and call it a day.

Wait.
Seriously?
EVERY SINGLE POKEMON GETS A MEGA EVOLUTION!?
EVEN THE NEW ONES!?
*Takes off glasses*
Mother of God...
Gamefreak went balls deep this time

I am pretty sure that they will destroy every balance in the original game, so that players are forced to use simulaters :/

Or they could make 'em their own category.

I think you can only have one Megalution pokemon on a team. But since it's achieved via a held item, I bet item-swapping will be a good way to counter it. Maybe.
