I couldn't find any documentation on this, but bursts put you in a guard state where you can tag for free. worked this way in console, and still works this way.

Rules of the mechanic ;
1) IPS burst (red) costs no meter to do the alpha counter. Mr X confirmed that this is untrue. Later testing shows it requires one bar.
2) Undizzy burst (green) costs one bar to do the alpha counter.
3) Alpha counter works like a normal AC, your assist is chosen and whatnot.
4) You can in fact cancel into super. Stuff like Cerebella alpha counter -> showstopper works.
5) You can do this both before and after the burst hits.

Let's discuss the application of this mechanic, even if I'm sure it was already discussed.

Could you explain this in some more detail? I am a beginner, but very interested in advanced stuff. I know the red burst, which you can do when a combo gets repetitive, but I have never seen a green burst :o

It costs a meter.

When you do the burst (either due to IPS or Undizzy), burst and then input the Alpha Counter command (forward+tag).

Green burst is the "undizzy" burst, and it occurs when a combo gets too long. Instead of repetition, it's based on a hidden undizzy value. I think I'm gonna go make a thread in the beginner section explaining it in detail, so be on the lookout for that if you want specifics.

The Undizzy burst (the green one) happens when the combo gets too long. After the combo hits the stage 5 every normal and special does a certain amount of stun and when it hits 350 stun you get the burst. If a chain starts before 350 stun it can go beyond it and don't trigger undizzy, but the next hit out of this chain will.

Wow. this is kind of crazy. Never knew about this.

You can alpha counter even if the burst whiffs, either by activating burst with fwd + tag or by pressing it soon after. So depending on your assist you can really get away from such setups, or even punish them.

Also there is a bit more time to AC if the burst touches them.

Lol this is new to me as well.

Does mashing fb fb fb plus assist work, in order to ac with no timing involved like it does with reversals? I don't see why it wouldn't unless the window is really small or or ac requires some sort of charge.

I think you couldn't find documentation on this because it doesn't exist. It's news to me, and I'm almost positive no one ever mentioned it on SRK or the old SH. Good stuff.

It was in SDE, it just had a really small window.

It was actually in Vanilla SG, it was a bug RogueYoshi found and posted. Mike liked it and made a feature.

I checked last night to see if it worked in SDE, it's there. Window is seemingly the same.
Neat that it's not documented though. I wonder if it'll actually change anything. too bad solo characters have no access to avoiding burst baits in such a way though. :(

The window is nowhere near the same.

The Launch Party Everyday window was the remaining hitstun of the attack that caused the burst.
The SDE window was 10 frames.
The MDE window is 30 frames.

Someone should try centre stage (serra?) alpha counter post burst xx opera.
Would be funny as hell if that could work

Why wouldn't it? What would be so weird about it?
