I might as well make one of these now since I've been bringing up me wanting to get better in many other topics.

The title is a reference to:

1: Negus at SCR using a team he doesn't normally use because he knew he could basically sandbag and still win (He used a Peacock on his team)
2: Being the second half of the reason Who Y'all Like became an elitist wonderland
3: MegamanDS at Salty using ELIZA on his team because he knows how big the gap between me and him is so he essentially let me have higher damage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd also like to shoutouts to:

-CyberSaiko for basically giving me that Squigly combo you constantly see me doing (s.LK > s.MK > s.HK > j.LK > j.MK > j.HK xx MK Divekick) x2 > s.LP > s.MP > s.HP xx Silver Chord > Appregio xx SBO
-Guitalex/El_Ess_Pi/A couple others for helping me improve my Big Band
-MikeZ for teaching me (Even though he says I should have known them already) about why YA BOI DEKILLSAGE is really good (resetting EVERYWHERE) and how to change my mindset into thinking about what my opponent can do at any given moment
-The SALTY crew for being surprisingly supportive about my apparent growth in the game

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a few goals through this:

1. Beat WingZero
2. Beat JasonD
3. Get out of pools at EVO (I'm aware this means I have to win at least 5 matches)

Here are what I find to be my current issues:

1. Parasoul Matchup
2. Big Band
3. Not using everything in my arsenal
4. Fear of throws
5. Relying on BB assist way too much

Here's what I've currently been doing to improve a bit:

1. Spending less time playing FFXIV (This actually is an issue lol)
2. Streaming my play a lot more and asking for feedback
3. Playing good players who teach me as we play
4. Learning the points where people throw reset me

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(I'm currently at school not listening in class typing this out, I'll just reference the videos I'm talking about)

If anyone remembers how I used to play before BB officially came out, I used solo Squigly. I really wanted to use an assist, but well... Updo seemed so played out and I really don't like Double, so that's why I didn't use her either. After seeing how Yaya played Squig Band, I got inspired. (Shoutouts to Yaya) One of the biggest reasons I started this is because well, After being denied my grudge match vs Band on Who Y'all Like thanks to Negus, I decided to get better, not because of him, because who gives a crap about what he thinks should be on WYL. But mostly because I really felt like I letdown the SALTY crew at UGC by losing against Justin Wong. If you remember, in the UGC Tournament of Champions Thread, I asked what I could do better. I realized that I:

-Relied on Brass Assist
-Didn't actually go on the offense much
-Did not respect Pillar

The next match I wanted to analyze for myself was Saturday Night Salt vs Bit_strife.

It was even at first, but he edged me out. There I learned:

-I once again relied on Brass assist and didn't do much to convert off of it
-Basically everything about my BB play
--Didn't use Beat Extend
--Didn't use Cymbals

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are some changes I've made so far to my playstyle:

-No more H Brass assist, it's now L Beat Extend
-I actually DO something with BB now

Mostly a lot of Giant Step after s.LK > s.MK

Then s.LK > s.MK > j.LK > j.MK > Cymbals > H A-Train xx SSJ

It seems like I need more work, I can't go to Salty or Rebel Up until June, so I ask for any assistance for anything you want to help me with.

To have a bit of a focus, let's start with my BB play.

I did a stream last night to try getting used to him, please help me with anything you feel:

Don't be like I was and be reluctant to throw, take your time, or zone.

Daydream about setups and approaches that MIGHT work, then go into training to test them. "Does LK A-Train assist with Center Stage connect? If it does, can I OTG off of it?" I have no clue. It's just a thought, but now I wanna try it even though I don't run that team.

Grind out those stancel combos. I curse them regularly. Her being able to cancel her overhead, then go c.LK is stupid powerful. Abuse it.

Overhead (Stancel) c.LK

Noted. I guess I should really find those moments to get those charges for an overhead.

Giant Step assist can pay dividends. Not widely used, but that's an advantage. French Twist was mostly ignored til a few months ago when that lockdown low was getting mixed with crossovers. Can you snag a Silver Cord off of Giant Step's 3/4 screen unblockable ground pound? Worth checking out.

problem with giant step assist is that once your opp knows you are using it then they are likely to almost never stay on the ground. thats what i found when i used it is you may land it a few times at first, but that will happen less and less over time. i think beat extend L is great for squigs since then she actually has a reliable reversal which also works as a great alpha counter too since it comes out really fast.

you can set up a mean 50/50 using silverchord, call beat extend and jumping over the opp and then using j.MP too. you just need to experiment with the timing a bit.

You made it clear you don't like her (I SWORE I would never start using Cerebella), but you might consider adding Double as your 3rd later on. Backing up Squigs with those two is serious muscle. Beat Extend/HK Bomber or Brass/LK Bomber both offer great coverage to let your girl do her thing. Whenever she falls, those two still work together and can also be a threat on their own. A safe DHC option like Cat Heads becomes more and more valuable as you continue to improve.

This was definitely one my favorite things when I played Squigs/BB. You get the unblockable full screen, and the overhead when on top of them. It's a decent combo with her.

Also, work on stance canceling unsafe normals more. I see you do s.hk quite a bit, wanna make sure you stance cancel that and stay as safe as possible.

Do I just stancel it or do I go into Liver or Appregio?

Arpeggio isn't a bad option, you are safe on block with that. Stance cancel is safe as well by one more frame at level 1. Nine frames at level 2 stance. Liver is for that hunch that they're mashin'! Gotta really be feelin' that one. It's not safe though, but most people aren't aware of that. It's kind of a tight punish.

Ah, that explains it. People on my stream kept saying stuff like cancel into Liver. It was working because "Online tactics" I was wondering why it didn't work offline. But Stancel is really safer by a frame? O_o I think I'll stick with Appregio for now, less execution involved >_>

Ok ok calm down and just double D up.

Something to watch out for with Arpeggio is that if they pushblock you before you do it, you're gonna commit to whiffing it for like eight billion frames or something

I didn't think of that... Is there enough time to confirm a pushblock during s.HK? I think there is I'm just not sure if my reaction time is good enough for it tho.

Try it out in training mode. Set the dummy to randomly block and randomly pushblock. See if you can block confirm the Arpeggio.

So tonight I just did a FT30 with @WingZero . He won 30-4.

http://www.twitch.tv/djazure/c/4250880

Thanks to this I learned many a thing:

-I still jump too much
-I have crap execution when it comes to doing Beat Extend
-I have only one Squigly reset that's easily figured out
-I don't know how to set up the Squigly Doublesnap of Launch stancel Launch (I actually got him intot he corner to double snap but Fukua dropped before I could do anything
-I have terrible assist calls. 30% of the matches started with me getting punished for called BB
-I mash out Super Sonic Jazz too much
-I can't figure out the best times to charge a stance now that I'm using L Beat Extend instead of Brass

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can see partway through I stop trying to jump and half the time I don't know what I'm doing.

If you guys feel like watching the hour long set, please give your input ^_^

hi for what it's worth negus also tested his peacock against me at scr because lol pw vs parasoul matchup

in the corner do a basic j.lk j.mk j.hk mk dive kick cr.lk cr.mk st.hp(2) snap -> cr.lk st.hk, st.mp st.hk repeat. I believe that works anyways and the st.mp st.hk will kill an assist midscreen as well.

if beat extend lands combo into silver cord -> lotus(I think qcf lp is lotus) -> charge. you could also spend a bar and charge while opera is out but you'd need 2 meters to make it worth spending that bar.

I went 4-2 at Evo, if it weren't for Duck I would have gotten out of the pools. So if I can do it, you definitely can. o/

Why does Duck get all the blame for this and not the other guy who beat you

Cuz when I saw Duck in my pool I was like "Damn, there's only 1 spot realistically in this pool" and when I saw everybody I was like, "Ok, I only allow myself to lose to MyLifeIsAnRPG", which was the one who double jeopardy me. So he's cool, I knew it would be between us, it was, so I'm cool.

And I don't say this seriously, it's only a joke, of course. Duck is cool, he's very chill actually. We had a FT10 at pre-evo salty, I learned a lot. I really wish I could return cuz I've improved a lot, compared to my old self.

For the record I would've made the same joke if any other top player was in the pool. I also set an expiration date too. xP

Oh, I was just assuming he was letting me know he can beat me without use of his Painwheel and with a character he normally doesn't use.

Woah, that works midscreen? I kept hearing s.HK (Stancel) s.HK (stancel) from everyone else.

Would you say at the beginning of the match getting the charge is more important than the reset opportunity from running under them as they're trapped?

To be honest I'm not a fan of squigly with no meter. For charge to matter you'd have to be willing to spend your meter and only being able to do that once is eh. Focus on getting charge for better damage output at the start, but getting a hit will be more important in the end. imo

I know I should just practice it, but is it okay if I try doing what I normally do? Randomize my resets up to 30% then go for the kill?

Or would you recommend (considering that EVO is about a month away) that I should just go for the 40% kill combo with stancels, and essentially remove one reset?

@DJAzure i also use squigs. in the corner there are alot of setups.

particularly the infamous corner switch over. you pretty much do this

J lk> j mk > j hp > s mp(1 hit) > stancel.

more times than not it will switch over. another one is after j hp you s lp s mk> jump throw> divekick > s lk > s hp >silver chord.
