WEEK OF! SKULLGIRLS

"I'm gonna go 3-0 next set!" Goes 3-0.

That was pretty great.

They're not, though

Well I guess if "viable" means "Bad, but not autoloss tier" then they are~
This. Even without playing him I know that MMDS is a way better player than I am, but he's not so good that simply losing to another player using solos suddenly makes them as good as a team.

..Viable in the right hands is probably better to say.

They DO have less tools, but the focus on a simpler strategy and the damage/life boost can make them a worthy challenge even for a 3-(wo)men team (killing each char with one combo and 2 bars is pretty scary too)

i mean, just look at mikeZ chewing MMDS character with a solo filia, then solo peacock, then solobella. a single opening and there goes 80%+ damage where MMDS struggles to do more than 65%

In high level matches, it might be too much of a disadvantage (you won't beat EVO top 3 with a solobella), but while you're still not on that level, the advantages can still be good enough to make it a decent choice

Duo vs. solo is also not nearly as advantaged as trio vs. solo. The duo still has the point die in a combo + one reset or yolo reversal and then is at a huge disadvantage.

Just a heads up that this is getting a little off-topic. If you want to discuss the ratio thing, feel free to make another thread so we're not getting in the way of the on-topic discussion.

This WEEK OF! is really late today :P

Isn't that all the more reason to celebrate the solos who do well, instead of demean them? They had to work harder to compete, even if they took the crutch themselves.
But I think we can agree that "this person is playing solo so they must be bad" is a pretty stupid assumption, and that's the statement this whole thing stemmed from.

Solo talk
Despite playing solo myself, I only realized that I judged against solos when online until I watched this set of videos. Now, I tell myself every time I play someone "This could be a silent killer"
THANKS MAX AND MEGAMANDS!

Ok, guys! I've finally been looking for this thread. Danny here aka "The New Player Hater" aka "Solos Suck" is here. I can finally give you my point of view on the show.

First off, if you have any questions for me, just quote me and ask and I will reply to everyone.

Let me start by breaking down how the show is filmed before I go into my comments and what happened at Salty.

Ok, so Max and I have been friends for umm, I dunno 10+ years. When we film these shows, we have about 1 hour. I can't spend a full hour giving him a tutorial because it takes days to teach someone everything. So trying to teach someone in about 10-15 min before having to move forward with the show is challenging. Even some of your comments in here are "OH NO! NOT TRAINING MODE AGAIN" when part 1 was released. As you can see, I have enough time to show him basic moves and combos and maybe just give a "this character is good at this type of fighting" type advice. Max speaks my FG language so you will notice I use a lot of marvel or generic fighting game terms. In terms of who played more, I was letting Max play all of it and even told him I want him to play and I will just coach/commentate but he insisted I play since he is still a beginner and doesn't want an hour of him losing. So he started trading off until Negus came on and he wanted me to play him in the FT5 while filming.

So, moving on to some comments I said. The biggest one I get hate mail sent for is when I said solo players suck. What I didn't say on the show is WHY I THINK that. BTW remember that is an opinion, not fact. I always forget (and this is 100% my fault) that when I am filming salty or max's show or just filming for the masses that they look up to the people on cam (not saying me, but anyone on cam because if they are the main focus, obviously they are the one with knowledge ie. James Chen, Keits, Max etc) and the people watching are hanging off of everything they say. So I have to be careful when I say stuff to explain why I (emphasis and I) think that way but also give the counter arguments first. This was being filmed so casually I felt like I was talking to Max only.

So the reason I believe solos suck (and I will talk about Mike Z at salty later) is because picking 1 character restricts you from doing many important things.
1. no assist
2. no DHC
3. no alpha counter

What you gain from picking solo is power up/life up. Now while there is pros and cons to picking solos vs duo/trio, MY OPINION is that the benefits of people a duo/trio outweigh the benefits of picking a solo.

I didn't mean the player picking solo sucks, what I meant to say is that picking a solo team sucks. I guess the word "sucks" is a bit harsh. I should say picking a duo is slightly better than picking a solo in my opinion.

Now as far as Salty cupcakes, Mike Z did beat me and wanted to prove to me that solos are good. I will admit his solo cerebella and filia got a few games on me. But it was definitely not one sided. It was one sided when he picked any other solo character but thats only because he doesn't know how to play them so I can't say it was easy because that was just unfair.

Also just a quick note about me being cocky/arrogant etc... If you know me in real life... actually nevermind. I don't wanna explain that part. Let the haters hate. Let me be the villain of Skullgirls! mhuaa muhaha

So let me end this with an apology to the community. I want the community to grow and I also what the community to get better as well. That is why I will be starting a second show as well (see this thread http://skullgirls.com/forums/index....-every-week-what-content-would-you-watch.514/)

Sorry for voicing my opinion without backing it up. And props to Negus even though I will still beat him in person...

I think playing solo is worse, but I think these stock reasons are wrong. The real reasons are:
No break in opponents' combos and pressure when your character dies
No Updo or Napalm Pillar assist

DHCs and Alpha Counters are great, but the extra damage makes up for lack of DHC and the extra health makes up for missing alpha counters in my opinion.

Also, in your matches with Mike I didn't see you use DHCs or Alpha Counters much at all, and there are a fair few rounds where you lost one character without dealing much damage but then won with your single remaining team member, which will have been the same as just playing as a weaker solo character.

Lots of stuff

I've said it before and i'll say it again: the problem is that you're too "definitive" when you talk on the cam, and that makes any argument way worse than actually explaining everything. And i'm almost sure this wasn't the first time you told something like that on cam.

About "have one hour, we do it live" thing, maybe some off-the-screen preparation in the free time before the week of would be good (like training one hour a day, even if it was online, for 5 days or so before the "week of"). Also, directing Max to this forum would be great! There's loads of users here willing to help in the information part, and a great ammount of data already on the threads.

And props to Negus even though I will still beat him in person...
I'd love to see these fights streamed/recorded. Already hyped up and preparing some cash for the bets.

Why We Play Videogames Part 6

Those Parasoul double snap back chun li kick loops off the top of the screen is so silly, yet so right at the same time as you decend back to the ground using umbrella Mary Poppins style.

still think it shouldn't be allowed. Surely, it's not a bug, so i'm not sure i could ask to "fix" it. but it's way too similar to an infinite (and humiliating too).

It's a Doublesnap infinite like from MvC2. I think those should stay because they look awesome and they punish bad assist calls.

Why not? You're 100% allowed to infinite an assist, it's a punishment for calling your assist at the wrong time. And MMDS' double snap combo may look really cool but it's pretty inefficient since it takes so long to kill the character causing your point to regen all their red health. I say props to him for pulling it off consistently though

my combo is 100% for show and to make the game more fun to watch. It is 100% pointless doing it the way I do it. You can easily just launch and fp over and over and it will kill in 4-5 reps. Mine gives the opponent about 2-3 bars of meter and has a high execution margin

yeah mike, remove that combo. also make the characters unable to crouch because teabagging is too disrespectful.

Sano, can I play operation with your brain? I wanna find out what makes it tick.
I know this is a late response, but if you really want to understand me, this video pretty much sums me up in a nutshell
