We knew it was being worked on, but now we know it's (as a certain politician might say) happening. The upcoming PS4 version of Skullgirls will sport a custom-made USB driver courtesy of Naughty Dog programmer John Bellomy, whose inside experience with the PlayStation was central to his ability to create the driver. Lab Zero's policy moving forward is to allow free use of the driver for any developer that wants it, meaning the driver could see extensive use in coming PS4 fighting games.
Peter Bartholow said:
Lab Zero feels very strongly about this: we think it's better for the consumer and the industry that you be able to spend your hard-earned money buying games instead of buying a new fight stick.
Lab Zero CEO Peter Bartholow has already corresponded with Polygon, leading to a full article, which you can view HERE.

I wish we had a system in place so that Skullheart got Skullgirls news first.

Such a little big thing this is too.

I'm happy about not having to buy another stick for Evo.
Nice work LabZero.

In a sense that posting here first would only be preaching to the choir, I can appreciate PB's desire to reach out to Polygon and get that good press. And yes, calling him PB is now a thing. P-Bar also works, as does Pete-on-the-low.

So like, is this a Lab Zero-exclusive thing? Or if/when Street Fighter V: Future Challengers of the Forgotten Past comes out, will they get the option for this? Cause I mean, this sounds pretty damn skippy.

Regardless, sounds awesome!

I've no problem with Pee "the realist" Bizzy contacting other groups about exciting news, but seeing it somewhere else first has me all "all we do here is skullgirls, why are other people out-skullgirls-ing us".

That reading comprehension!

Yes, LZ will be making it available to use, but whether those companies opt to use it is another matter entirely.

I'm really glad you guys got this working

I don't know if it's possible for companies like Madcatz to put a stop to this... but hey! Apparently Sony's already okay with this driver so I guess The Curse can't strike here. Hopefully

***EDIT: Okay! It looks like Markman's totally cool with this. (Steals from Dev's article on SRK)

"Lots of love to the Skullgirls team for making this happen! PS3 arcade sticks will work on the PS4 release of Skullgirls Encore! Specifically Mad Catz PS3 sticks at the very least.

I've already seen a few comments online where people mentioned that myself or Mad Catz are probably angry because we can't sell you a new $200 PS4 stick. This is so far from the truth. We are glad that you can continue to use your FightStick & hope more developers follow suit so that our products can become your weapons for more years to come." - Madcatz Facebook Page

proof I'm dumb

Oh hey yeah reading would have been good on my part too. Awesome! Here's hoping those devs, you know, actually go about using it.

cause I mean, you know Capcom

I hope Street Fighter V: Endless Waltz of Blazing Fists doesn't suck

I'll post in the Salty! thread also, but:
The first public test for compatibility with this driver will be at UGC this Saturday, 10/25, during their 24-hour charity stream. Starting at regular Salty time, probably 8 or 9 PM, although we don't get stream time till 11PM. So everyone SHOW UP, and bring your stick.

Location test hype!

So I would not be able to use a Mayflash adapter for this or any other PS3 controller? Guess it may be time i have to learn how to play on a stick :/

I love you, Mike.

xoxoxoxoxo

If you can find a controller that uses default USB drivers you'll be good to go.

Shame that the PS360+ reads as a DualShock 3.

do you know how this works? maybe I could find a default controller and then splice the wires letting em use it? idk how this modding stuff works

Its so fucking cool LabZero was able to get this working when most developers probably wouldn't have even bothered trying. Thanks a lot guys!

Mike thinks there might be a way to force PC that we don't know about?

Also could try getting in touch with the guy and seeing if we can get a firmware update.

Thank you guys.
This is really an amazing thing.

For everyone worried about Madcatz' response:

That would be cool, if possible.

Tried to get in touch with Per on SRK, but he hasn't replied yet.

That said, someone else who's familiar with how these things work over there has stated that it should be as simple as changing the identify line to in the FW to say that it's a generic device.

That's music to my ears!
(This and Kingdom Hearts 3 STILL aren't enough to make me buy a PS4, though, but at least I'm set for tourneys!)

Hey, can the PS4 version do cross-system play like Guilty Gear Xrd? If that's not a thing, I think it should be, if they can manage!
