Is there any way we can implement a more in-depth point/trophy/rewards system to encourage more quality discussion?

For example, a system that allows forum members to gain points for creating really quality posts and generating good discussion. Something that rewards those who create character guides, beginner tips, quality tech threads, etc. This system would ideally have various ranks and titles, allowing forum members to be more widely recognized for their contributions to the community. The current "trophy points" system doesn't really encourage good posting, it just encourages more posting. It's also not easily seen by other members, which makes accruing points relatively meaningless since the only person who will see it is the person gaining the points.

Sometimes giving members some semblance of recognition is all it takes to encourage them to generate quality discussion.

Maybe like a gold star or a medal on their profile? I would assume its hard to create a point system based on quality post. That means mods would have to browse every thread every day. But maybe if you get enough points from likes you get like a star? Or a gold frame for your profile pic?

I don't think it's a good idea to use likes on posts for that.

Most of mine came from posting funny pictures with cats.

I just can't think of another system to use fourms are a place for people to discuss different opinions and who's waifu is better. Shuffling through to see the quality of a post can't be judged by a machine and opinions vary between mods

Perhaps there could be something in addition to the "like" button, or maybe a system that allows people to give points to a person's profile rather than their post. We can probably trust most people to follow an honor system for rules regarding the system, although it would be neat if people were in some way limited in how many points they could give out at any given time. Alternatively, the system could be run entirely by the mods. Discussions don't happen too quickly here, so it wouldn't be too hard for the mods to agreeably increase a members rank for producing quality discussion.

I don't really know what the best solution is. I just think it would be nice to encourage members in some way. It seems to work well in other forums.

The only forum that works like Skullheart that I know is EDF, and they have 'hem:

They're directly added from the admins, like the 'Evo champion' badge Dekill has.
I think it's a nice idea, but no idea how we could input it. Profile likes seems the best so far

I say it can royally backfire. "quality" discussion is subjective and there's always the risk of "favorites" getting this easier and "disliked" by the mods being ignored

I don't think there's much to worry about. There aren't that many people here to promote quality discussion in the first place. Anyone that chooses to make a worthwhile gameplay oriented thread won't go unnoticed, and no matter how subjective the topic is a quality post will generate good discussion and feedback. Mods may disagree about a few things here and there, but it's not hard to differentiate quality gameplay discussion from the usual banter around here.

look at 90% of sage's posts. There's quality to be found, but you need a goddamned translator to get it.
