Dean[SG]
I will be doing this thread as constantly as i can so i can train myself to observe and analyze matches.
I expect i will review players better when i win the majority, when i lose i predict i'll just beat myself up about what i didn't do and talk about what the other player did and how he/she won.
(Also will only be playing OCE players for consistent games and results).

Anywho, First player up will be Rekisu!

( Match Details )
16 Games (This time it was 16, following matches will be 15)

Rekisu: ( Parasoul ) 2 Wins
Dean[SG] ( Cerebella [Cerecopter]/ Big Band [L.Beat Extend] ) 14 Wins

(tl;dr Ranking System in the following order "Excellent" / "Very Good" / "Good" / "Average" / "Fair" / "Poor")

Neutral Game: Very Good
Pressure Game: Fair / Poor
Safe Game: Very Good
Assist Calls: N/A (Solo)
Fundamentals and Spacing: Good

Rekisu is a very careful player, he won't make a lot of big commitments unless he feels like he needs too. He uses each move very carefully and puts a lot of thought into each one.
Solo Parasoul means big damage and health because solo, and he caught me in 2 yolo level 3's twice, both i knew were coming but did nothing about, have noted my options if i predict a Parasoul will do this again. He also used her big poking moves to catch my backdashes and jumps and caught onto my grappler mix-ups quickly. I lost 2 games due to bad spacing and not using my options more efficiently and not paying attention to how much meter he had (he also rarely used meter except for level 3 when backed into the corner) He was able to handle my pressure game very well when using big band/copter. (Millia has nothing on what band with copter can do, he should be proud).

Rekisu kept to a comfortable turtle keep-away style and forced me to go to him [good] and when i did his combo's were a little sloppy, he didn't hit-confirm as much as he should have, and i don't recall a single reset [his mix-ups were basic but fine] and he could have done a lot more with his zoning setting up auto or manual tears [seriously, i want to see more Parasoul's set up tears, if you are full screen against a Bella you have no reason not to. Band on the other hand he fell for every Giant Step..].
His Pushblocking was VERY on point and will give him bonus points for that.

I won the majority due to careful neutral and being aware of Parasoul's huge hitting pokes, better air to air's and Pillar and just taking my time, i lost when i wasn't patient and got hit by the former.

(There were also frame drops and 3 instances where we cut out. Fuck you Australia).

Tips towards Rekisu:
  • POSSIBLY get a second (Double or Fukua may suit your style). Not as important then the next points i will make.
  • Find/Practice a BnB (I found inconsistency's. Connection?) and learn where you can reset players in it. (Parasoul has plenty, if you need some call me).
That's all the gripes i have, he's a very solid player regardless.

That's one down. Let's hope the next one is just as informative.

My ranking of Dean:

Neutral Game: Good
Pressure Game: Good
Safe Game: Very Good
Assist Calls: Very Good
Fundamentals and Spacing: Average

Dean (at least playing against Parasoul) is a fairly aggressive player. He was always trying to move in and get on top of me....almost a little too much. As Bella he spaced/neutraled by jumping around at a safe distance and used Bella's fantastic aerials to prevent approaching. He supplemented his neutral with great use of L-extend to prevent me from easily getting in, but it started become too obvious and I was often able to predict when he'd call BB and beat the assist out with a shot. Sometimes he would overextend, or get freaked out by me moving while he was landing, and immediately try to backdash out, which I could catch with st.LP - need to work on a combo off of this though as my standard whiffs part way through at this spacing.

Also, Dean is the best Big Band player I've played against bar ClarenceMage. He actually uses him as a character and not just gimmicks and it took some adjustment to play against a not just gimmicks BB. In neutral BB he steadily tried to move in, and faked me out into shooting his brass knuckle *a lot*. He covered a lot of space with big normals

His pressure game was quite strong, especially in the corner, making good use of Bella's normals and L-extend assist to cover some gaps. He always left a gap in some of his block/pressure strings that I could beat out with a mashed st.LP. When he did open me up, he always took it to a full combo. He would often however often use an out of pressure combo -> super -> dhc, even when dhc would be bad for him. Turning a broken defense into more resets/pressure or even resetting pressure by moving back to neutral would be a big step up in his game.

His safe game is very good, making great and smart use of L-extend to prevent me from doing my pressure game. L-shot to forward dash, eaten by L-extend. L-shot to jump-in, eaten by L-extend. L-shot to safety poke, eaten by L-extend. L-shot to nothing, no assist call. Note to self: learn how to do pressure that isn't started by L-shot. He also started using Bella reflector, which made me scared to use shot at neutral....even when he was in the air or in a bad position to do dp motion - I could also try to fake out reflector with M-shot, or use L-shot from a distance -> dash forward -> block.

I lost a lot of games mainly due to lack of offensive power: dropping combos (calm down when dashing forward after roman, wait until you actually land to st.lk), lack of pressure, lack of resets/mixups (natural as i don't know any of parasoul's yet), and getting hit too hard by his resets - gotta learn those reset points and break down your options.

Tips for Dean:
  • Bella and BB aren't very mobile, be wary of overextending in neutral and then trying to back out.
  • Sometimes it's better to block than to backdash.
  • Stop DHCing unnecessarily, use the combo to reset/pressure me more.
  • If you have gaps in your corner pressure, rather than staying in counter-poke range, try resetting your position to neutral - you'll still have an advantage due to corner and it's safer than getting counter-poked all the time.
  • I felt like I never had to worry about horizontal moves when Bella was on point, maybe throwing in some more titan knuckles or a horizontal assist?

Yomabuddy (You're my buddy too!)

12 games (He had stuff to do).

Yoma (Big Band [L.Beat Extend Assist] / Filia [H. Hairball] ) 1 Win
Dean[SG] ( Cerebella [Cerecopter]/ Big Band [L.Beat Extend] ) 11 Wins

Neutral Game: Fair
Pressure Game: Good
Safe Game: Fair
Assist Calls: Average
Fundamentals and Spacing: Fair / Poor

Yoma is hard to critically analyze for me, he is one of THOSE cases. Mostly because he reminds me of myself in my first months into the game [He is a HELL of a lot better than i was back then, he scores bonus points for that, hence why he qualifies for an analysis and not a coaching session]. He switched his team from Filia on point to Band. He shouldn't, especially considering how good his Filia is.

He doesn't know how to cover his approach 'well', mostly just Brass/Hairball. His Fundamentals need sharpening, Spacing needs work and his Assist Calls are fine but god damn, When he gets a groove he fucking runs with it, and have lost characters AND games to it [Hence why Filia on point is better], He has told me he wants to learn Double, I agree full heatedly. His Okizeme is very good too, like a good Big Band player SHOULD utilize (more assist calls with oki though please ok thank you).

I played a lot more solid too (Still throwing out B.E and pressure/neutral still needs work). Spacing was a lot better and used my corner mix-ups a lot better, i do feel i leveled up since Rekisu put a review up of me too. Also i need to learn WHEN i can do a reversal on wake-up, i either do it too late or too early. WorldJem told me how to check for that... need to put time into that...

Really thats all i can review on him as he IS still new, but he has potential and will become a very VERY powerful player later on in the future. (Like Fruitcake, goddamn am i proud of Fruitcake..) Just play a bunch more, watch other people play, learn Big Band mix-ups and learn how to Neutral and Covering Approaches.

Tips:
  • SWITCH TO FILIA/BIG BAND POINT. SERIOUSLY.
  • Analyze how you can better your spacing.
  • Double is good, Double is great. Give her a try.
  • He still has the attitude of "I suck.. ugh". Be positive man, its a game! have fun! :D

You made me do this Dean ;_; even though you know I am not good at this.

Ranking (take with a grain of salt, I need more exp with the game to have better ranking skills)
Neutral Game: Fair
Pressure Game: Good
Safe Game: Fair
Assist Calls: Good
Fundamentals and Spacing: Good

Quite a few of our games ended because one person got the hit and then setplay happened. L Extend was almost always there for me to eat with my face. He called quite a few Knuckles with super jumps and punishing them. Honestly I can't really tell what was happening most of the time because I'm bad :V

One thing I noticed was that he was using Cerecopter into pressure quite a bit, which I could have PBGC'd and punished with a super or something, but I didn't so he wasn't supposed to fear it.

Another thing I noticed was that Dean himself wasn't really using PBGC's, but then again calling in BB quite a bit worked out for him so who am I to judge.

Some BB calls in the neutral were slightly questionable. Perhaps need to pay a little more attention as far as protecting BB goes?

Overall I'm just much worse at the game and at explaining game styles so I can't really say much I'm sorry :(
