No idea how many people here have / had any sort of interest in DFO before, but yyeaaahh... Neople's currently alpha testing DFO.
I .. never thought I'd be speaking about a possible revival of DFO after almost one year.

Interesting...I had played it a long time ago. I was a gunner but then I just lost interest in the game after a time. I might give it another go if this is the case. :V
 
When I found this I freaked. DFO was the only mmo I ever liked enough to get to max level in.
Starting over my male ranger, and it's beautiful. I still can't believe it's back.

Oh man. Although I probably won't get back into it, happy it's coming back.
 
it was gone? well i liked it it was grindy though and I wanted to weare different clothe without paying 30 bucks, but it was fun

The experience system has been completely reworked. Not super recently, though. When did you play? For like the first ~6 months it was grindy as fuck.
At the moment you can buy avatars for 100k gold each from seria. Which is more doable than it sounds considering I'm level 9 and already have kool sephiroth hair on my gunner.

Played back in 2011-2012. Went Monk then crusader with a really clever name (that I forget). Was anyone on DFOSource forums? I was Lawyerman.
 
Anyone mind giving me a little backstory on this?

iirc, this game was already a thing before but then closed down? Is this game different from the old one?

This used to be a mildly popular game back in 2011-2012. It was essentially an online fantasy side scrolling beat em up like Streets of Rage.

It's the same.
Basically, the old one was published by nexon and, well... for starters they used a terrible and overpriced model for the microtransactions. And they didn't keep it even close to up-to-date, and at first they really fucked up the experience rates, and they did a terrible job promoting it, and all that junk... but eventually they just stopped updating it or saying anything about it, and they were so surprised by the resulting massive drop in players after around 6 months of silence that they decided the only responsible option was to unplug the servers - wasn't nexon's fault, DFO just isn't compatible with american tastes.
 
I haven't played this in a couple of years. Definitely a favorite of mine.

I used to love my Grappler and Crusader classes so much. I've been playing the Alpha test since my friend told me about it and I'm enjoying it again.

Wow, this is a pleasant surprise. Can't wait to tell my buddies about this. We were all over this in high school.
 
Bleh, got to level 40 on my mgunner and am waiting for news on alpha wipes before I continue. They really need to give some news on that to keep their momentum going strong.
 
Can't disagree with that. You can't really keep everyone interested in an alpha if they do not know the day of the eventual wipe.

For now, I'll simply assume Neople is too busy with DFO Global to give any sort of news. Either that, or the alpha version isn't scheduled to end soon.
 
TBH I'm not 100% sure there's going to be a wipe. I mean they just passed out rare avatars to people as a contest prize. Why would they do that if they were planning a wipe?
 
True, that event makes it harder to guess wether or not a wipe will actually happen. But, then again, there's also the fact that Seria sells a variety of Cash items for gold, so...
 
It's vague as hell. Right now I'm just idling in town leveling my disassembler because I don't want to progress without knowing anything about the wipe but I also want to contribute to the server numbers to show my support.

I'd imagine that they'd just resend those Avatars to the winners. It would be pretty crazy for them not to wipe with all the people who basically have Rare Avatars and Pink-Accessories because of Lost Treasures with basically free Skeleton Keys.

I'm just playing a class I really don't care for at the moment. I currently have a level 38 Avenger and I could really care less if it gets wiped or not. I'm probably going to stop playing him whenever I get Awakening because I'm not really too impressed with the class especially since it's pretty fund reliant due to being percentage based. I'll actually work on a class that I actually like for whenever the game has no wipe.

It would be pretty crazy, it's just awkward to be handing out prizes that will get wiped soon.
TBH I'm expecting a wipe and a jump start event. That's why I stopped at level 40 exactly on my mgunner.
I'm also expecting it to go straight from beta to full release since they don't really have a reason to do 3 stages.
 
Neople has announced the end of the Alpha.

It’s going to be a long announcement so please read carefully

1. Alpha and Beyond

* The current Alpha Test will end on June 13th Friday 6PM KST
* And the answer is YES. We will bring DFO back.

2. What Stays and What Goes?

* Your Character Name/Class, and your Level will STAY
* EVERYTHING ELSE (including but not limited to gold, items/weapons you have on you and in your vault etc.) will be GONE/ERASED.

* Since it is an Alpha, we cannot leave the items/gold etc. but the least we could do was to leave your character name/level. Also when you come back later, we will make sure to prepare you with necessary items so you can enjoy the game without any hassle.

* We will be providing other means of login for those of you not wishing to use your Facebook account for DFO, However, please note if you want to continue on with your Alpha character when the game is back, you must use the same Facebook account to login.

* To reward you for participating in Alpha we will definitely prepare something for you.

3. Future Plans

* As all of you know (yes, we know too) the Alpha version is so old it almost feels ancient. So naturally it will take us quite a long time to prepare a fresher version, and of course fix all these messy problems everyone has been telling us about.

* What we would like you to understand is that we will not be able to bring the game back within a few weeks; it may take longer than many of you expect, but we will make sure to communicate with you through this page and let you know where we are in terms of preparing the official launch.

I better get my Level 45 Avenger to level 50 for Doom Guardian advancement before the end of Alpha because I'd imagine that Red + White Cubes are going to skyrocket in price once Beta starts. I'm glad that they're also re-compensating for the lost gear because of wipe. I wonder if account-vault would be worth grinding for now and if they're going to wipe Safe Upgrades.
 
And this is what I get for not browsing Skullheart more often.

I was interested in the game, but it was under Nexon and that meant two things:
- I wouldn't be able to play due to regional restrictions. Not without futzing around with external proxies. My only other option would be to play on the Taiwanese servers (because people are fucking geniuses and restrict Hong Kong to TW services for some reason) without being able to read any text...at all. Last time I did that, it frustrated me to hell and back.
- Any friends I had when I was playing Maple Story/Mabinogi (long story) have likely gone to greener pastures by now.

So yeah. I'm really hoping this is an actual global release.
 
So, I'm resurrecting this thread because some nerds on the IRC convinced me to download this again. I'm running a F.Brawler on US east. Please tell me some of you are still playing
 
Yup. Got a Priest and Knight I'm going through right now. I will make a F. Mechanic/Optimus later.
