As you all know, Skullgirls' preferred assist and team meta is still in constant flux, but most assists and pairings reign true.. Double's Hornet Bomber, Filia's Updo..

But what about those who choose.. something different..

To prove that point.

To show them up

To give them the real damage.

Skullgirls Concept Matches are just that-- come up with an unorthodox team composition and check out what works and what don't. Converse with other players and check out what the REAL deal is with Cerebella's cr.LK as an assist, and how you can put Squigly's throw assist to good use.

I've got no idea for when to host these, but I would love to have a real day dedicated to these sessions, as @gllt, @Fizzxwizz, @worldjem and I have had some very nice success w/ a proof of concept run tonight:

I'll use this thread as a general catch-all for it, and to just bring out some interesting things overall.

Secret tech Squigs throw and Filia 5HK. Oh man.

I think any move that has some sort of effect can be a useful assist.

So like, lows, highs, throws, multi-hit, knockdown (any), wallbounce, groundbounce, stagger, launch, sweep, projectile, ranged melee, invulnerable (hit, projectile, full), or some sort of ridiculously good hitbox.

Who wants to try and make 1-hit mids useful? =D

@MegamanDS plays Fukua cr.MK and it's hella good. I think people are just slow to adopt non-immediate-bonus assists.
Heck, look how long it took for people to adopt Drones over Rocket Punch in MvC2, or meter assists in MvC3.

I'm partial to French Twist assist.

So, is this where we try and find the next Daisy Pusher + Excellabella gimmick?

Bella st.hk is extremely fun and a surprisingly good lockdown assist. While its no copter, the 2nd hit being an overhead catches sooooo many people

If Luger assist is considered unorthodox, then I guess I do that occasionally.

Cat slide assist is so unorthodox it doesn't exist. But MAN that would be my favorite assist or maybe it wouldn't I dunno it's not there for me to test. ...please? It would be like using cilia slide except it's fortune.

Headroll assist is something gllt says is good and I dunno I'd have to mess with that but I'm too scared to.

Not really known to be bad assists, but still, a player out here uses lk george with Eliza and filia and that shit feels stupd to play against.

He also uses Eliza's command grab as an assist for peacock when peacock is teleporting and that is stupid good as well since you have to jump over it to not get grabbed (dont know if it blockable or just hits low) but its really good either way and sets up full combos.

I am considering running a weekly stream dedicated to this, because I still like the POC and pre-event collaboration can actually work.

Monday from 2PM~10PM is best for me, but I believe @dekillsage has an event going on every monday at 7PM for this. Thursday and Sunday are usually also free, Friday and Saturday being alternating bonus days depending on week.

I don't want to collide with any other stream event, and I would much prefer having the ability to stream it even if I don't speak.

Speaking of which
w8ing on you for today midiman lol

Also feel free to do this on mondays it'll save me the trouble of having to do stuff

I use Valentine Chishibuki juuji (st MK) as a combo extender for Cerebella

i can confirm that bella st.HK is an awesome assist, particularly for fortune, and likely a bunch of other characters too.

the hitstun on it is sooooooooo long you literally can run from the other side of the screen to follow it up. i may have to start running that assist again lol. then i could also use it for an awesome alpha counter too.

I accidentally used Doubles C.mk as an assist during casuals at my last local, boy was it hard to tell what she was doing when I jumped into the air

I am curious to see whether or not I can't get someone to do voices during the stream. I'd prefer not to, considering my microphone situation is at best, awful, and at worst, awfuler. I would like to get some kind of tech-lord to commentate the pros/cons to builds seen in matches or just general talk about the game.

I of course volunteer myself but I only know so much about the characters I play, the rest, I'll need some help with!

When I actually USE an assist, I occasionally use Egret Charge for Peacock. Is that unorthodox?

Anyways, I love it because while Peacock works her magic, the Egret snags 'em, and I just do Bang Bang Bang, Argus Agony before they bounce off the wall. Instant full-screen safety net!

(I also use Egret Call, for the laughs, or Dive for the epicness, but usually Charge)

The first trial session of Skullgirls Concept Sessions is now in order and is being streamed here http://www.hitbox.tv/Midiman

You may join so long as there is room in the lobby and you have beta installed!

Ummm one of the more different things I've only seen @Viro Veteruscy do is use Fortune's s.HK assist for lockdown. It works pretty well imo.

This sounds like it was fun. Is there an archive of last night's stream anywhere?

About Cerebella s.hk assist. One of the only overhead assists in the game (Soul's f+lp, b+hk, BB's step, Squigly's f+hp, I think that's all), and the delayed overhead gives you more time to fake them out with a low.

You can do assist, c.lk, c.lk with nearly any character (so first s.hk, c.lk, second s.hk, c.lk) for a mid, low, high, low, and if either of the first three hits connect you easily confirm into a combo. You can even switch out either of those lows for an instant overhead for a full combo on either hit, and the second low for a grab, so it's a mid, low/high, high, low/grab/high. Even if they try and pushblock, if you time your point's attack right after the first hit of s.hk, Cerebella can't be pushed away, so they have to at deal with your first two mixups, and that gives you enough time to run up and go for your third (but going for a third reset gets beat by PBGC).

On hit, it's basically a guaranteed combo without ever using an OTG. Can also be used with characters using those jump loop combos, so they launch, super jump, combo, land, jump, combo, assist, let the combo drop, and the opponent will fall into an overhead. Also, if you time it right in a combo, you can attack after the first kick and reset them with the overhead kick.

Hey, let's revive this and get commentary and people on it and stuff;

Monday, 8PM PST, Bring out your goofy stuff if you're feeling it or just come by and play proper! I'm considering keeping it Beta because of Robo-Fortune's impending updates, but Retail is also pretty baller.

additionally I wouldn't mind having more than one person on commentary like
@dapurplesharpie or @Dolfinh or some other jazz.

Oh me of the past, you were right. You were right. ;__;

I use cat slide and hairball it's not exactly in the meta but beat extend puts it in there.

Just how goofy are we talking?
Honey with a mug like that you can be as goofy as you wanna be
