[Apr 24, 2015] Northwest Majors 2015 (Des Moines, WA)

All you WA dudes that came out, please take a look at Gameclucks in Lynnwood.

I'm gonna be working to get us into more Seattle things, but we need bodies to fill the venues, brackets, and post-tourney dinner tables!

losing as bad as I did in Grand Finals has me hungry to get better, I don't want that to happen again.
Huh this has happened to me at almost every tournament I've been to for months and I have like no motivation to get better. Weird
@MysteriousJ

Oh yeah Shari's was either really good or really great depending on what you ordered. Their pie was amazing though. Shoutouts to @Ryden Onkars for bringing AN ENTIRE PIE back on the plane home with him.

I don't know why I'm surprised by that.

This random peacock also caught me off guard and sent me to losers. He had a great tournament run.

Shaun came in with the power of mcpeanuts and knocked me out of the tournament

it's fine tho because we all know peacock players CANNOT ZONE IRL

"hey mcpeanuts come to this tournament in Seattle, the city that hosts the NFL team you hate the most, so we can talk shit about your character and strategies while watching an overturned truck full of bees get cleaned up"

man i'm so good at convincing people to travel and spend money

Wait hilary are you local too?

I have a pretty decent table to eat at...

Redmond!
Oh shit! edmonds for me, I'm like 20 min from gameclucks tops! I'm up at wwu right now, summer though we should get some stuff going. I'm actually having a couple scrubs over today that I'm going to try and indoctrinate.

whoever says you can't zone IRL has obviously never had a rock thrown at them
There was one fall where it was very rainy where i lived and there was a part of my yard that had a lot of dirt on it

all the neighbor kids and i would take the dirt and throw the muddy dirt balls at each other and that shit bruised

basically the neighbor kids prepared me for playing skullgirls because that's what it's like when you play against peacock

Sorry I didn't really play casuals or money matches or even stay at the venue on friday or saturday or at the hotel. I was too busy site-seeing Seattle. I went to the Space Needle, Pike's St and just a bunch of tourist stuff since it was my first time outside Cali.

On that note, the few people I watched or shared a few words with were really cool and I was happy to meet these names and finally put a face behind the usernames.

@Domo - Fun to see you again. Fun to lose to you... again. Seriously though, you pull really nice clutch comebacks and play well under pressure. Always fun to get games in with you especially since you use characters I play so I always learn new stuff.

@FuLLBLeeD - Awesome fortune play! I totally got lucky against you getting a random happy birthday. Your high-low rushdown game is on point. I was sure I had lost but got super lucky. Haven't seen a good fortune ever (not to offend anyone from LA :X

@Yaya - Didn't really talk much to you but I did watch almost all your matches. That Squigly was fire! I thought she's the worst character in the game (still do lol) but you somehow managed to make it work and place 2nd?! Unbelievable! Major props to you. Stick with that horrible character! Reminds me of me playing Megaman in MvC2 and placing top 8.

Although I respect everyone's gameplay that I saw and thought everyone was really good, the two players that get my "Top 300" award that stood out completely are @Skarmand and @dekillsage. These 2 players played so SMART, it was awesome to see that in this community. I rarely see that in my local SG community where straight MvC2 smart brain games were played. I felt outsmarted and that I lost, not because of the characters or matchups, but just straight up outplayed. You two are the real MVPs of SG and I wish I played both of you guys for hours. The mixups, tactics, footies, spacing, zoning, combos etc... were just like watching a majestic classic MvC2 match which brought nostalgia to me lol.

And finally, big thanks to @Hilary for making this event happen. I forgot his name, but the NWM organizer came up to me and thanked me for coming out and told me Hilary made this happen for SG so thank you for supporting this community. The event ran much smoother than what I'm used to from past tournaments so props for keeping it classy.

PS. Thank you @MysteriousJ for being a sunblocker.

Nooooo I've failed. My goal is to convince people she's /not/ the worst

here are muh shoutouts

Want to thank everyone from PNW/Cali for making this weekend awesome. I had 9muchfun. Shoutouts to memes, smash killing SG, MKX salt, that one dude x-raying that cup at the diner, domo's tch at the diner which killed me, everyone in top 8 winners for DUCKING ME BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT, gimme my dollar, saving peanuts from playing squigly, raffles, everyone making someone salty in a random game EXCEPT FOR ME DANG IT

@Hilary Thank you for sitting down with me and playing like 100 games over the weekend. I love hearing peoples thoughts on the game and sharing mine while playing. I don't really get to do that with people outside of my circle and I love learning about how people think and approach things. You're also super nice and an awesome dude. PNW is lucky to have you, new york is stuck with me lmaoooo

@Choose Goose You're really cool dude. Thank you and Hilary for not leaving to play vsav and instead bringing the canadian boyz to the SG room to play on the last night. RIP those tots tho gdi

@Skarmand @Yaya Rivalries make players stronger, so I'm glad yours exists. Both of you guys are really good, keep improving.
Yaya: Work on your neutral. Rush Punch is not an assist you can just throw. I will hit it for 20-40% of its health every time but you kept calling him. Stop autopiloting!
Skar: You tend to focus on set ups and safety, which is fine. But if you want to win tournaments, you have to get used to taking risks and having confidence in the reads you make no matter what the outcome is. And do not ignore the importance of neutral, it means everything in this game!

@Domo You are 20x better than you played in tournament, and I know that's hard. Don't get discouraged and keep pushing forward. If you could see my legs shake when I get nervous loool Glad no one has really noticed or mentioned that yet. It was nice hanging out this weekend. I laughed way too hard at the diner.

@MegamanDS You're a lot better than people give you credit for. Your scene doesn't challenge you which is unfortunate, but good games in our set. If we're ever at the same event don't hesitate to ask me for a long set. I have a feeling you'd be able to figure things out pretty quickly.

@Negus Eyoel Nice getting to see you again dude! We didn't get to play as much as I wanted but that's tournaments for ya. Can't wait to hang out again at combo breaker! I'll bring some fruity pebbles

@FuLLBLeeD You're cursed dude. Can't believe this shit. Don't get down on yourself. You're a much better player than I feel you give yourself credit for. My advice to you is
1) Do your best to never lose the same way twice. Losses happen, but to improve you have to make sure your opponent doesn't do the same things to beat you.
2) Work on your ground game. Fortunes is really good, and you need to get used to spacing and footsies.
3)IAD j.HP is as good as iAD j.lp axe kick. More damage and meter too.
I'll do my best to help you if you ever need someone to give you advice or to watch over your match videos. Just let me know

@Dolfinh It was awesome seeing you at this event, especially after barely interacting with you at NEC which made me kind of upset. Getting to chill and watch the stream with you was nice. Your improvement every time I see you play is awesome. I'm glad we got to play some matches before the tournament, you began to understand what I meant about the neutral game. UNIEL is a game that helped me a lot with SG, so it is definitely not a bad idea to try and play that game more to better yourself as a player overall. Keep improving one step at a time! and looking forward to seeing your run at that speedrun event thing ^_^b

@the other guys like @Grangach @MysteriousJ @Matty etc
I would have liked to have played and talked with you guys more, but tournaments just end up not being long enough. Thank you all sooo much for coming out, especially those who went to this as their first event. I hope to see you all again, and hope you continue to play and support the best game ever!

@Jayford nice meeting and hanging out dude! just like play every game man **** it lmaooo

@Loz Thank you for having us! It means a lot to have people support our game at their events. The scene will grow! Just give it time ^_^

shoutouts to missing my flight god I'm so S T U P I D rgdsedsgf

but then you made top 8 winners
AND DIDN'T PLAY GAMES WITH ME SMH

thanks for making it out, sage, it means a lot and really opens up peoples ears about skullgirls when you mention that the 2014 evo winner is showing up to a tournament, even if they aren't that interested in the game otherwise, I definitely talked a bunch to my other oregon friends/players about skullgirls because of the turnout and quality of players showing up way more than they would typically

the short amount of time we did talk I really enjoyed though, especially the look on your faces (domo/sage) when i brought up robo fortune's old airdash. :PUN:

Man, thank you. I have a really hard time learning from the experience in this game because it's so fast and things can be really crazy. I just don't have as many opportunities to slow down and talk out theory anywhere near as much as I need to to understand and learn things, so sitting down and talking it out over the set was a tremendous level up.

There's a lot of holes in my game that I'd been struggling to identify, and the set helped so so so much with that. There was a point where you were like "If I'm playing this spacing right, you will never hit me with a pbgc or mash" and like 30 things clicked in my head about how to approach people on offense and what my timings/priorities should be on defense, and that's just one example.

Outside of skullgirls specifically, learning how to have more fun and confidence in games instead of trying to calculate/robot my way through it is an even bigger blessing and I owe you a lot for that one. After getting bopped in SG, I took that spirit to VSav and did so much better, and I can tell games will be a much healthier/happier experience for me moving forward.

Always welcome in PNW fam, roll up. <3
