Peacock Big Band
Hello, my name i's Xarok and this is my training Diary. I'm mainly trash at Peacock but i also throw Big band in and sometimes Parasoul as a third.

While i'm not new to fighting games I am new to the concept of winning without mashing buttons. (my brother played Eddie in Tekken 3 I had no choice. ((Also MK II's AI, nuff said.))) My good friend @Some Person convinced me to buy this game. He then proceeded to MERCILESSLY UNLEASH A UNMAGNANIMOUS CATARACT OF SUFFERING AND INTERMINABLE DESTRUCTION. So after 238 hours of learning i can kill a character of his! Sometimes. To the point I still have quite a ways to go before I'm decent. To put that in perspective here's an average game.

...well okay not average, But one problem I have is executing fancy stuff in the training room fine and then just dropping everything in a match. Case-in-point being when I threw Lonesome Lenny I was too busy frantically inputting Argus to look at the projectile coming for me, and then the rest fell apart. I feel as though i've gotten a bit worse as of late because I'm trying to do all sorts of stuff I can't seem to, at least not yet. Through this i've managed to have a whole list of problems i can write down to work on.

1. Stop kicking the football instead of zoning
2. If someone is in my face and I begin attack them with physical attacks, if they're blocking they always get me when my combo ends and just punish me for trying.
3. ADC is still hard, I know that if you ADC and attack quickly you fall and how you can use that for mix-ups/combo but when it's in a long chain i usually do it before the forward momentum and drop or i do it too late and the hitstun ends and i'm hitting a blocking target... back to 2.
4.If i'm in a corner, i'm finished. I know as Peacock that shouldn't happen and i'm pretty much dead as soon as I let it, but it happens so often and I just have to sit there and die, I cant figure out a way out other than the occasional mp+Bang yet that doesn't seem to work on overheads (or i time it badly I'm not sure)
5. Stop kicking the football
6.My zone rotation is trash, I cant seem to find the rhythm and also slip up somewhere (1. + 5. + 10.)
7.Ever since beowulf (probably in my head/sucking) I can never seem to HP Item Drop + Double argus after a grab anymore, i'm not sure if it's harder now or if i'm just bad at it again, but I got it down before the patch and can't do it after.
8. How do I get out of a long combo? Anytime i face a really high level player it's just CARNAGE because I cant seem to get out, I assume this just has to do with skill/knowing when resets are on all characters, but any tips would be great.
9. As Big Band I can never seem to get a hit off to start a combo, I know he's a large, slow character but i'm just useless at getting a first hit!
10. STOP. KICKING. THE. FOOT. BALL.
11. On Big Band i can do Beat Extend if i'm on the left side of the stage, but if i'm on the Right side I can't seem too! I didn't ever use that motion in the past so a Z for a move is new, but dammit! Even when i used to have squigly on my team I couldn't Dragon Punch from the right side!
12. On peacock is the a both other than lp Bang i can grab right after? I've tried grabbing while they're blocking everything but it just doesnt grab them, is that hitstun?

I'm sure there's plenty more but these are just what stands out the most for me. I have a recording of me "practicing" (getting shrekt) against someone very clearly better than me. Every issue on the list appears! but for convenience i'll notate some of the bigger issues/embarrassments

:52-1:06 is atrocious, especially the blockbuster i did in desperation THERE'S ONLY 2 ARMOR WITHOUT BAGPIPES.
2:30-2:50 Classic example of someone putting baby in the corner, you can see all the shit i try to no avail
3:44-3:48 I'm not sure how this mixup works exactly, if anyone could clear me up on it i'd love them forever.
4:26 This is why i hate myself
7:10-7:32 I tried but corner
9:16-9:20 all that blocking and then i call Georges day out because i'm clueless
10:40-10:58 I NEED TO UNINSTALL THIS DAMN GAME OH MY GOD WHY AM I SO BAD I HATE YOU ALL ALL OF YOU PEOPLE WHO DESTROY ME AUGH
11:31-11:33 I almost got the ball that time!
12:00 I grabbed the wrong way...
13:12-13:19 I almost had a good combo but i didn't pull of jump...
16:11 I love me.

Welp that's about everything i can think of for now, I'll just have to keep practicing and note my progress. Now i get to watch myself complain about kicking the football grow!

I think there are a couple of easy tips that I noticed that should help you:

-no pushblocks....ever? You did block some stuff a bunch, but I never saw you try to pushblock. Pushblocking is key in this game and whether you do it early or late, you should at least do it after basic blockstrings.

-too many buttons on defense. Out of resets and pressure, you almost always came out swinging with buttons which is super risky. You should try to work more on movement out of pressure so that you won't be in the corner and try to actually block more during resets. Blocking resets is hard, but you'll have to od it at some point.

- For your Big Band neutral, you should use more jLK xx Cymbals. Doesn't particularly matter when, just do it a bunch and play around with it. You never did it once in the match and instead just did walk back -> rush punch all the time. Cymbals is really really good! So just mess with it and you'll start to do more with Big Band in general. It won't help in all MUs (like against Parasoul), but it will help a lot in others.

- Less Lenny. I know the kind of setup you seem to go for, but for now I think you should just stay concerned with your normal rotation of projectiles and leave using lenny for later, since in almost all the situations you used it you ended up much worse than if you had just done something safer.
