Silent Dolphin's Schizophrenia (Training Thread)

OK, so I was able to get a recorded set with Lawnba (ty Lawnba) for study.

It should be up in a little while.

<Claws> i took a look at the whole video
<Claws> I got a series of questions but the first question will give me some insight on why you do certain things
<Claws> Why would you burst bait when lawnba continously shown you that he will never burst bait?
<fenster> also worldjem you could mixup into throws more often as val
<silentdolphin> he jumps a lot
<fenster> extremely often you kept going for mixup on clk and he blocked it every time
<silentdolphin> yeah, and whenver I try to throw, he jumps
<Claws> Actually worldjem. fenster is right
<Claws> HOWEVER
<Claws> you call updo at the wrong times
<Claws> but never when you go for a grab set up
<Claws> updo would cover you grab attempt no?
<Claws> did you notice how he neutral jumps WITH a button?
<Claws> cause there''s no reason to not burst
<Claws> if you're on your last character and i got more characters i would burst too!
<Claws> most times he would burst is when he has the life lead, the superior neutral etc.

<Claws> so of course he's gonna burst if he knows full well of what his team can produce when he needs it
<Claws> he won't burst because he knows you're gonna let up
<Claws> that
<Claws> more often than not if you don't burst the burst bait will lose pressure post attempt.
<Claws> so what's the point of burst baits when you lose pressure

<Claws> Another thing.
<Claws> you're not really maximizing conversions with filia
<Claws> the combo you do generally isn't scary enough for anything
<Claws> mixups and so on
<Claws> let alone a burst bait
<Claws> and then to top it off when you get a stray hit with filia you press the wrong button for conversion
<Claws> TL;DR the reason why you're having problems with lawnba is that you're not consistent nor efficient on any of the hits you land.

<Claws> that's the most glaring problem
<Claws> cause i've seen you land so many hits and then they amount to nothing.
<Claws> I thought L shadow may help you out in the matchup but there's literally no point to that assist other than sweeping.
<Claws> and more often than not when it does hit you're in a awkward position to even convert
<Claws> like that assist is only good for PW and sometimes i debate on that whenever i use PW team
<Claws> and Updo assist isn't like what it was in early Encore so you might have to focus learning your spacing.
<Claws> Other than that Lawnba just maximized w.e he could out of any stray hit he's done.
<Claws> which ultimately killed you
<MrPeck-work> the gameplan against lawnba should be to snap in and kill his peacock first imo
<MrPeck-work> remove his safe DHCs and his tear + item drop wall

<fenster> I wonder if drill assist would help against lnl
<MrPeck-work> i mean i know the important part is how to land a hit in the first place
<MrPeck-work> but that's what i'd do once i get the hit
<Claws> Drill assist would help if it wasnt for goddamn tears
<Claws> tears will fuck up the assist.
<Claws> literally if you need to do ANYTHING
<Claws> you kill bella
<Claws> Peacock with H shot is annoying ye but the pressure with bella + SOID is just maddening
<fenster> its L item drop, right?
<Claws> no
<Claws> M drop
<fenster> okay
<Claws> The thing is about lawnba is this
<Claws> you snap in cerebella
<silentdolphin> L shadow threat negated much of his bella wall
<Claws> that puts parasoul in anchor yes?
<silentdolphin> so, it didn't do nothing
<Claws> It didn't do much then
<Claws> let me correct that statement.
<Claws> wait let me check something about snaps
<Claws> ok i was right
<Claws> so parasoul will be anchor
<Claws> but peacock doesn't really have a DP assist
<Claws> which essientially makes it easier to kill her.
<Claws> Funny thing is worldjem
<Claws> you get in just fine
<Claws> then you fuck up your set up and he gets more consistent hits on you

<Claws> There is one thing that's been bothering me however.
<Claws> Lawnba looks for a certain thing before acting.
<Claws> whether you do c.lp, grab
<Claws> he'll detect the c.lp then proceed to jump
<Claws> its weird when i fought him
<Claws> sometimes run up grab did a lot more things than i anticipated
<Claws> cause he was looking for a stimuli to react

I did a set with SwiftFox-Dash and managed to scrape some wins.

I need to get into the habit of blocking his obvious stuff like

2LK > throw
j.HP + assist
one other thing I forget right now

He did those pretty much every time.
Replying kind of late to this one but I've been watching it over the course of a few days. It seems to me that you were really consistently winning the Val vs Peacock matchup, in most games you had landed a clean hit on Peacock before the timer went below 90. So you weren't really losing these games at neutral, you'd win neutral then something would go wrong and you'd lose. "Something" was most commonly one of two things:

1) Bella raw tag - you got hit by this a lot. There's a bunch of ways around it, you could reset in the air more, there's ways to safe jump it cause it's slow, you could do the old fashioned block when you think he's gonna do it (you did this a few times but given how often TJ was tagging you probably could have stood to do it more). Maybe even snap in Bella so he can't tag to her lol. Also something I just thought of, if you're playing someone with a good tag like Bella's, maybe it's better to reset after maxing out undizzy since it all goes away when they tag.

2) You messed up your setup - kinda to be expected since you're still learning Val so not a big deal just work on this stuff in training mode a bit. There were some weird moments where you'd get the hit but Fukua assist would make the conversion impossible (during Bypass etc) so maybe don't call Fukua there. Like maybe it can make Bypass safe or safer but if it makes it so you can't convert off the Bypass on hit then I don't really feel like it's worth it. Stuff like that.

Obv there were other things that happened in these games but these were the 2 that seemed to keep coming up again and again so that's what I'd work on.

Also there were a bunch of times where your characters got rocked for 75% or more of their health as assists. I would never call an assist point blank if Bella has 3 bars. Same deal if Lenny is on the screen. It's just not worth it.
