Since this was a thread before the purge, decided I might as well remake it.
Batman: Arkham Origins launches in 22 days! Anyone excited for it? Preordered it? Right now I'm on the fence about it, seems like it has all the makings of a subpar sequel (No Catwoman, different developer, recycled assets, no writers from the previous two games, tacked-on Multiplayer), but it could still be pretty fun, right? I think all games are equal until they're released and you can tear into them unless they look Godawful by default. It's meant to be a doorstopper until the real Arkham City 3 is done, really. Can't complain. I still think it could be pretty good.

But Batman Arkham City and Asylum, those two are great. Discuss those here too!

You forgot no Kevin Conroy Batman. However there are some positives such as Deathstroke being playable/a worthy enemy character (has a better fight win record over Bats) and Adam West Batman skin.

Yeah, but I'm actually willing to give the stand-ins a chance. They do a pretty good job of sounding like younger versions of the characters.

The Deathstroke thing is a positive too, definitely. And the Adam West Batman just clashes so much with the Arkham setting, but it's so great. Needs some "BAM!" and "POW!" sound effects when he hits enemies, though. And the Azrael outfit is pretty good too.

I mean let's face it, I'm gonna buy it at some point, I'm just unsure if it's day one buy/full price worthy.

Wait, Deathstroke is gonna be playable!? Oooh.

I've played and beaten Arkham Asylum 100%, but I've yet to play Arkham City. I've had the ending for that one spoiled for me, but I still want to play that eventually.

Also, Roger Craig Smith is Batman in Arkham Origins. Sonic the Hedgehog is Batman. Yeah.

You mean Chris Redfield is Batman. Batman don't spin around Gotham City doing loop de loops! Also, I know he's the current Sonic actor. So, you don't have to tell me. Troy Baker's performance as Joker is actually pretty good as well. He's trying to give it that Hamill feeling judging by the tone. I'll get this later down the line as it drops in price, but it looks pretty good.

Only if you preorder.
But of course, this is only if you wanna be one of the first to be Deathstroke.
He has two exclusive missions and can be used in Story Mode, but aside from that, I think that';s it.

So, from the initial reviews, sounds like Arkham Origins is just...Ok.
Nothing spectacular, but still pretty good for what it is.
Pretty much what I expected from day one.

I don't understand why the game gets slammed for being more of the same. A new Lego game was released recently and those games never changed since it started with Lego Star Wars and yet that criticism isn't brought up.

I never get reptition complaints at all.
I mean for fuck's sake if you boil it right down to things, God of War has button mashing and repitition but look at the sales and scores

I asked one of the guys on my Steam friendslist about the game and he said he liked it more than Arkham City. I will probably buy the GOTY edition next year, because I don't feel like paying for a Season Pass. I have a Platinum in Asylum, but I never finished City 100%.

Epic.

Confirmed characters so far:
-Batman/Bruce Wayne (of course lol)
-Gordon
-Barbara
-Two Face
-Harley Quinn
-The Penguin
-The Riddler
-Scarecrow
-Arkham Knight

Who is the Arkham Knight?

There's lot of speculation about him/her. I think it's either Azrael or Hush.

Well that's ...fast? It took two years to make City, two years to make Origins, but one year to make Knight?

Different studios.
I assure you Rocksteady was making Arkham Knight while Montreal was making Origins

Oh right, this is back in Rocksteady's hands. Which can only mean good things.

Not that I have reasons to say bad things about Origins. Even though I preordered that one, I still have yet to give it a go. So, without spoiling me, how do you guys judge the quality of non-Rocksteady Origins compared to Rocksteady Asylum/City?

In fact, that's it. Rocksteady has been working on this since 2011/2012, while WB Montreal did Origins. That's why Kevin Conroy didn't work on Origins, he was in this the whole time.

edit: I liked Origin's story. Except for:

The way they used Black Mask. That's one of my favorite villains, and so far nobody did justice to him.

Must... get... a... PS4...

So, I ended up getting Batman Arkham Origins because my Bro bought me the 2-pack of City and Asylum for Christmas, and I already owned both
turned them in and got the one game I didn't own.
So far it's pretty good, it's no City but I'm enjoying it a lot.

And oh hey it's five months until Arkham Knight comes out, how about that, huh?
Anyone else ready for that?

I'm so ready.

Except I need a PS4 first but apart from that I'm ready.

Excited to play as Harley, do you think they'll eventually release her as DLC if you don't preorder? I don't remember how Rocksteady does things with extra characters

Rocksteady always has the DLC available later.

I'm preordering it from Gamestop so I can also be Red Hood.
Dude has guns in his promo thing so hopefully he'll be far more lethal than Deathstroke was in Origins

I haven't played the rest of the series since my ps3 disc of Arkham Asylum started permanently crashing at the opening cinema for the Poison Ivy fight, heheh.

My biggest complaint about Asylum (and I guess the rest of the franchise since they seem to keep the same combat engine) is that I never felt like there was any positioning or maneuvering needed in the combat. It all comes down to rhythmic button presses and nothing more. Might as well not even hold the d-pad/analogue stick.

Batman Arkham Knight - Red Hood Story Pack Trailer

Thank fucking Christ he's lethal.
Like holy shit what was up with Deathstroke in Origins.
When you play him he:
Doesn't use swords
Doesn't use guns
is 100% non-lethal.

I'm glad Red Hood will be brutal and lethal as fuck

Are those thugs in skull masks? It would be cool if Red Hood's story involves confronting Black Mask for whatever reason.

WB Montreal had me really interested for Black Mask in Origins, turns out it was all false advertising

They do look a lot like Black Mask, so I'm assuming.
Harley's DLC campaign involves her going to Bludhaven and fighting Nightwing, so I'm curious to see how that goes.

So, I hear it has performance issues.

Nah man I'm playing on PS4.
I just can't use the Afterburner which is an integral part of using the Batmobile.
It just.
Never triggered.
So I can either see if someone can help me out or I'll need to reset my entire game.
IT WAS ONLY AN HOUR AND HALF BUT IT'S THE PRINCIPAL OF THE THING

I really enjoyed the Arkham City. Though Arkham Knight added alot more.
