Colossi's Traning Diary

After I came back from the beach, my execution and reading became awful.
I feel like I'm play way worse than before. It's just a phase, and I hope it doesn't last long.
Also, cerebella combo. Took me around 130 takes to record this thing.
I chose the song thinking about @CaioLugon.

I've got to think over my gameplan with Valentine. It doesn't matter if I know shitloads of tech if I can't apply them the way I want.
I need to learn how to use c.mp or s.hk to anti air properly. I have to use more s.hp to bait stuff (pushes Val back, beats some stuff, there was a video about it, if someone can find...)
I need to be more patient. Not always try to get the lead, since I overextend too much, and I'm kinda afraid of things with ~extend~ on it.
I really like to be aggressive, but when people know how to take advantage on this, I'm pretty much fucked up.

Played a set against noaa some time ago.

My biggest weakness is punishing stuff.
I block ok-ish.
My offense is too reckless.
I call assists mindlessly when playing Val.
I never call assists when playing Bella or Fukua.
I don't countercall.

At least my reaction is kinda good. I think.

When I fix my notebook and stop using my mom's, I'll train this more often.

I've had my first experience in... 10 years (I think?) with a fightstick.
I saw an arcade near the hotel I was staying this week. Got 3 coins and searched for fighting games there.
I found a MvC one, but it was broken, so I had to play the only other fighting game that was there. Tekken Tag Tournament 1.
Man, it is ~weird~ to play standing up. Maybe I simply sucked, but sometimes I felt that I was pressing down and my character did standing moves (in case was Hwoarang, and I wanted to do c.4 > 4, that is a launcher, and I can chain into 3>3>3>3. Beginner bnb). Maybe it's because I am too tall and was weird to hold the joystick right, but I felt comfortable with the buttons.
I plan on buying one, but the shipping taxes to Brazil are heavy.

Also, I've played a short set with noaa yesterday before going to sleep. FT5, 5-4 to noaa. Was nice. I feel like this break was good to my game.
My assist calls are still shitty, but TK bypass is decent to punish assists, so yeah.
My neutral as valentine is basically "I'm putting this huge hitbox on the screen, I hope you don't mind and get hit by it so I can confirm with air bypass".
My other two other babes are ok, I think.

Now I have to focus on execution. I've been missing inputs frequently.

Even tho I haven't been interested in League of Legends for months, this is one guy that I like to watch.
I know it's not SG related, but I think that everyone struggling with their will to play/improve should watch this and try to absorb something.

What can I do against peacock as Fukua that is not M fireball/fireball super, s.hk and advancing with chicken block?
I also need more consistent air resets in the corner that are not only 50/50 between grabbing or hitting. M shadow is there, but I've been using it so much that it's not even working anymore.

Also, how the FUCK do you convert from Fukua's air grab into LnL? Do you call assist before or after?
Manage to convert with LnL > j.hk on heavies only, calling before.

As fukua, doing anything fireball related fullscreen when she is not in chip death range is a really bad idea, and even then its risky. You just have to make an attempt to realized their pattern, and chicken block/dash jump through it. With Lnl at midrange, you can force peacock to respect your assist, allowing you in to pressure her (lack of bombs is good). Also be wary of lenny when reset on the ground, peacock double jumping out of air resets, and dont allow her to fall on top of you with either j.lk or j.mk. The peacock matchup for p much every character is to be on point the whole match, or she will eat you with Bang Bang Bang chip + Item the God

Fukua most likely the SHITTIEST matchup against peacock but then again squigly beats that in terms of shittiness.

first and foremost if you have meter MAKE THE MOST OF IT. if you see peacock deploying a bomb *not s.hp* immediately do BFF.

otherwise pray since peacock can, will and always will dictate the pace and there's much to be done about it.
edit: her weakeness is the same as fukua's. reset her in the air to avoid that dumbass lenny to dhc.

I honestly find M Shadow at neutral really annoying to deal with as Peacock. Once Fukua gets in range for it, it becomes pretty risky to try to throw any bombs out.

Just be mindful of the situation. Its not unwinnable. But the fact that soid tracks too good wont allow you for a dash jump cause fukua is slow in that regard kinda hurts. Avoid the matchup at all costs pick a high mobile character and destroy peacock at all cost. The incoming character is going to have 2bars minimum with maybe leading up to 3 bars so prepare to face that.

This is how I've been managing to get near her. s.hk xx H drill xx BFF to get closer and bypass some projectiles if I know she is doing an special.

I also can't punish teleport consistently, even without any projectiles on the screen. My c.lk or c.mp often whiffs and I get counterhitted. I should punish more frequently without shadow combos.

Mk Shadow resets are also really good against peacock
I do these a lot. I just gotta work more on my oki once I air grab.

Will try to use this more. I'm usually afraid to use M shadow because of item drop.

I was thinking about taking Val out of my team because I don't feel like playing her at the moment, but I can't fight against Peacock without her, so I usually rely on her.

the thing is. While M shadow is good. SOID is 10X better. that move alone dictates and invalidates any bullshit you want to try. couple that with some assist and you might as welll go for BFF. also cloudking parasoul got a legit buff to deal with peacock. sniper. does roughly the same result except its FASTER.

This buff doesn't invalidate all the billion reasons why Peacock blows up Parasoul. It actually changes very little! It's a nice buff that gives you a single fullscreen option but the MU is barely different at all.

Also, seriously? THAT'S your reason for thinking Parasoul does better than Fukua? You do know that Fukua's super has a ton of invincibility and actually lets her combo off of it when it lands? Sniper having a faster startup (which, btw, is actually very lengthy now!) does not give it the same utility in the MU that BFF does unless you like taking projectiles to the face for your troubles so you can get the chance at some oki (good luck actually getting anything when it's fullscreen).

can sniper be baited? that's my only question tbh. and i'd rather not even clog up this thread i'll be free to discuss.

BFF you need to be mid range. BFF is invinci but god damn is it slow. i dunnno. you don't play fukua and i don't play parasoul. we agree to disagree i suppose. but we both know that the matchup for both of them suck.

Also come closer read the best spoiler in the world.
I never said that parasoul v peacock was favorable. as long as you get that then i'm cool i ALSO never said parasoul does better than fukua so wtf are you interpreting my shit wrong? i merely made an observation with options given to each character. if not then
TL;DR whoever wants to go point para or fukua vs peacock should just die and cry cause there's not much you can do as peacock monopolizes your options and chooses you to make the only option to make and then you're still wrong if the peacock is smart.

now if you want to discuss this i'll find you on steam or IRC

Humm

Fukua most likely the SHITTIEST matchup against peacock
Parasoul*
parasoul got a legit buff to deal with peacock. sniper.

This is quite easy to read as "Fukua does worse than Parasoul, because Parasoul got Sniper"

Ok, Fukua is shit against peacock and I should probably hope that Peacock screws up badly when I'm left with Fukua against her.

What about air grab conversions with lock and load? Is there any tip to do it consistently?

wait....now you can do this?
i wouldn't know so i rely on my oki and 8/10 i'm fine. the point of oki is to not hit them. its to control their movement and gauge their reaction. once you know that then winning is in the clear.

against peacock. PLS PLS keep atleast 1 bar. and pray you can out run the SOID cause within midrange she'll have to respect you and most players don't hence why they get hit by BFF.

yes you can and the timing is horrible.
I think I heard dekillsage talking about this once.
Only managed to do this against double, beo, robo and big band.
Did once against bella too, but it was one time in 15.

My matches from yesterday.
3-1 vs Jorge;
3-1 vs VirgateSpy (I don't even play double lol);
3-0 vs Alone (aka Brimstorm);
0-3 and 1-3 vs Noa.

Will analyse and I hope you guys do too.

Things to note:
-I know Val's sweep is not safe, but it catches people who upback after pushblocking. I should be canceling it into shuriken, tho.
-I complain a lot when I'm playing someone on skype, so I suggest you to watch on mute.
-I know I've been relying a lot on horns and BFF and I know this is not good.
-I upback a lot.
-Yolo supers on the last two sets, against Noa. Don't judge me, but I was kinda not caring about winning anymore. I even said several times "I'm mashing now, beware". It was a fun set after a long stream.
-My assist calls are reckless and I simply call assists for the sake of calling assists. Nothing specific. Just mash assist button when in danger or when I'm Val.

sigh...

So, I've got a job, and I've started college again and now I don't have time to do anything.
When I get home, the internet is frequently down because the place where I live sucks.
I've been losing hard to @Mwisk, even tho we were playing at the same level some time ago, and this makes me sad.
I know that he improved a lot and he is putting a lot of effort on this because of CB, but I feel like I've been playing worse. My decisions usually suck and I'm not using the techs I have been practicing at all.

I'm just... so fucking tired and unhappy.

I know it's not SG-related, but I feel like I can share my thoughts here.

I know what your going through my man. I'm also in school have a job and I suck (your better then me though). The best way to get through it is to just do it. Exercising or meditation also helps a lot with the tired and unhappy part (trust me on that one). I would suggest you just try to do training mode stuff for a while till you internet gets back up. Training mode will help with your execution and that helps to build confidence which helps with your overall decision processing potential. The more you doubt yourself the angrier you will get and the more you will suck (Your really going to have to trust me here.) Just try to relax and then you will see progress

Lately, I've been getting used to the job. College is destroying my remaining free time, tho.
After I started working as a programmer, I started to notice some things that weren't part of my vision about the world:

  • It's ok to make mistakes. People make mistakes all the time, so you should not feel horrible about not getting everything right.
  • When times are hard, people should laugh more, or else they get sad and don't have any motivation to go on.
  • Having a motivation is important. Even if it's something small, like being able to afford eating a good dinner at the end of the week. Not all goals have to be great, they just need to exist.
  • It's ok to be competitive at videogames. You shouldn't take them too seriously if this is making you feel bad, tho. Play for fun. Enjoy yourself.
  • Not having anything to do is worse than having too many things to do. There's this brazilian saying "An empty head is the devil's office". Occupying your mind is needed. Go wash some dishes, read a book, make some food... Anything helps.
  • Friends and family are the most important things ever.
  • Praying does help.
  • Every experience is worth living.

I've decided not to put effort on Skullgirls anymore. I'm fine with my actual level of play. I'm having fun playing recklessly with some friends, and having fun playing people that are at the same level as me. Today I had one of the most enjoyable sets ever with @Mwisk. He won the set (5-4 to him), but I felt like I was the winner. I wasn't worried about my loss. I wasn't worried about making mistakes. I did my best and I was very satisfied with myself, and I think these are the little moments of joy we should value more in our lives.

Ok, I'm feeling like learning other characters casually. I know pretty much every character's basic BNB (except Peacock and Painwheel) and looking for a fun team based on gimmicky stuff, like Fukua/Carpenter Axe, doing c.mp assist call L shadow... Similar to what @Daemyx does with his Painwheel/Creamation.

It's fun.

Also, been learning Fortune and Fukua because I think they fit my style better than Valentine, but I'm not planning on replacing Val. Just for fun, basically.

I do play Parasoul, and she is one of my favourite characters, but the lack of air movement makes me feel like someone broke my feet.

And Robo Fortune is the reason I play this game without voices on.
