I figure now would be an okay time to make a thread about a game I've been following for a long while: A Hat in Time! A Hat in Time is an open-world 3D platformer in the same vein of classic N64 titles like Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario 64. The developers have hosted a very successful Kickstarter, attracted the attention of BAFTA-nominated composer Grant Kirkhope, and they're due to release AHiT into beta in a week!

Here's a (slightly dated) trailer of the alpha:

And my favorite, bits of the alpha's soundtrack. Grant Kirkhope helped a little with the music, but their main composer is absolutely amazing.

With Hat in Time due to hit beta in a week, I was curious if anyone else here heard/cared about it. From what I've played of the alpha it's one of my most anticipated upcoming releases, and since the final release is going to have online co-op it'd be cool to know in advance who's down to play.

This looks delightfully charming and along the direction I want to see indie games go. Neato!

Here's a recent development; Joshua Tomar, the voice of Skullgirls' announcer, is doing voicework for A Hat in Time.

I think it's prohibitively expensive for people to make games like A Hat in Time on a shoestring budget, but I hope that 3D platforming sees a resurgence.

3D open world platformer? Sounds good already. Banjo Kazooie had a place in my childhood. Thanks for sharing!

I could've swore there was a thread on this, already. Maybe I'm imagining it.

Regardless, it's cool to see the PS1/N64 era get their time in the sun for re-imaginings. Good on Tomar for getting in there, too.

edit: I wasn't crazy!

I've been meaning to get into games like this. Probably gonna wait till its full release, but I've been keeping my eye around for it.

It's been a while since I have heard some news about the game. I decided to buy some months ago since I am a fan of platformers, both 2D and 3D.

I've been following that project for quite a while, before it even had a kickstarter, the game really have gone a long way since! I really love the overall look and design, and anything that mix wind waker and banjo-kazooie will automatically hold my interest!

I'll probably skip the beta in order to not spoil the main experience, but i'll really look forward the final release!

Necro-bump, I guess... Anybody have an idea of the full release date on this yet? I tried searching their forums, but I didn't get a "Community Tracker Key" when I purchased the "full version on release" variant a while back so I couldn't make an account. Newest thing I can find is a Beta update back in March. My Humble Store account still says "When A Hat in TIme is ready, you'll be able to get it right here on your download page."

Thanks!

No release date yet, but they do plenty of updates on FB/Twitter.

Just heard about this and I must say, it looks so colorful and lively. And I do love me some platformer action.

Also, the protagonist is adorable. ;w;
