So ive recently been getting into skullgirls and its my first traditional fighting game i've played, so as you can imagine i am very very bad. And i dont know where to start to get better, so if anyone could help me out that would be appreciated so much!

I suggest you looking into this thread here.

Beginner Resources

There is a lot of tutorials, and guides, and combos.

I recommend you doing the tutorial that exists in the game itself, they are very helpful.

And after that, play each character story mode, so you can identify yourself with someone (go on the easiest difficulty if you feel).

It is easier to get engaged in a game when there is someone you care about in that game.

Just like Sotherius said, play the in-game tutorial. It will teach you a lot of the basic mechanics of Skullgirls and fighting games in general.

Look through the Beginner Resource thread he linked as well, too. I'd suggest reading this in particular, first. This is something to help you get adjusted to how to read terminology and to teach you most of the mechanics.
After you go through the tutorial and have read some resources, pick a character you'd like to use. Find and learn a combo for them, and go into some beginner lobbies. As you get better with your neutral, offense, and defense, you can learn resets and other advanced things with your character.

There are lots of people on the forum to answer your questions or to play with. There is a thread for questions stickied if you have anything you want to ask, and there is a thread for matchmaking as well.
