Beowulf Ms. Fortune Robo Fortune
This is a nice place to put write down how bad i am at this and why!

I'm just some person from Iceland that hasn't played any traditional fighting games until last month or so, how nice.

Anyways, im starting out with Beowulf, and two fortunes in one team.
somebody is going to make a comment on that

i hate to be vague but this is how my usual online match goes down:
  1. stare down the other opponent while getting out of harms way (or just do a wulf blitzer)
  2. flail a little when i think i see a opening, then try to muster up a combo
  3. Get comboed into submission while occasionally pushblocking when they try to reset
  4. ded
My current methods of training is:
  • Going to this forum
  • Fighting my button mashing little brother to get better blocking reflexes
  • Messing around in the combo trials
oh yeah, one more thing, i only got this game on ps4 until i get a proper PC.

you may now reply on how vague and incomprehensible this is.

Based on past experience I would avoid online ranked and just create a beginner lobby so that matches will be a bit more even. I would also recommend finding other beginners to play against in this forum or experienced/advanced players willing to help.

Good luck and keep fighting!

i just realized that getting footage out of ps4 games is pretty simple.

here is some footage of me panicking...
My other vids are very unrelated, so dont bother.

For future reference, it helps to put up multiple matches so we have more to work with, if you can.
Your neutral is fine for your level so don't worry about that for now, but you seem to have problems with hitconfirming. You'll land attacks that you can convert off of, but you can't react to the landed hit in time. You also failed a confirm because a c.LK whiffed, so learn in what situations how you would confirm off a hit.
You might want to find a good combo from the threads on the forum. Check out the BnB Compendium or the combo threads for your characters.
You should also pushblock more while in pressure. Pushblocking is useful apart from when you block resets to get yourself out of pressure. A properly-timed pushblock can result in you getting back to neutral, so try to start using it more and learn when to use it.

Why does the video stop itself about a minute in then start playing again with desynched audio? Wild

0:18 - Command grab is a super risky opener unless you're really sure what you're opponent is going to do. Your opponent starts by just jumping back which I think is a way safer opener. I mean he gets hit and you don't but that doesn't mean what he did was wrong, or what you did was right. Anyways after the command grab hit you should have done headbutt into full combo instead of just letting your opponent out for free.

0:34 - You actually should have gotten hit here but your opponent mistimed his setup, that's the only reason you didn't get counter hit into full combo. If you were gonna push anything here it should have been a reversal, don't mash normals while you're getting hit (unless you're expecting a specific reset that loses to mashing normals)

1:18 - This assist call was very very bad. If you're going to call your assist while under pressure you need to block. Ideally though don't call your assist under pressure.

In general you push a ton of buttons, your character is flashing red from counter hits all the time in this video which is not normal. You should be blocking way more often. Also learn how to combo off Beowulf's grab.

Thanks for the feedback.
In a nutshell, i need these:
  • More combos out of everything
  • Pushblocking
  • less accidental command grabs
  • Better assist calls
Imma round up some more footage when i get the time.

Why does the video stop itself about a minute in then start playing again with desynched audio? Wild
Probably the inbuilt trimmer in the ps4 that i used.

your character is flashing red from counter hits all the time in this video which is not normal.
I actually find that amusing, and its the only time it happened that often.
Maybe i dont really know all the details of a counter hit.

A counter hit occurs when you are hit out of the startup of your move by your opponent.
Edit: I'm pretty sure this is incorrect, since I always mix up the details of counter hits between fighting games. Shoryuken says this is how counter hits SG work, so I'm just going with this.

yeah it's essentially when you're hit out of the startup and recovery of a move. Typically results from losing to a invincible move (dp, super), pressing buttons when you're at frame disadvantage, whiff punishing, or hitting something that's super punishable on block.

The benefits of a counter hit are a 1.5x damage multiplier on the move that initiates the counter hit, and a reduction on the drama/undizzy meter. The reduction is greater for the degree of strength of the move used to counter hit (-25 for lights; -50 for mediums/throws/specials; -100 for heavies) This encourages punishing with the heaviest move possible, and means longer, more damaging combos that will hurt A LOT.

hey guys, i managed to stuff three matches in one video!

What i think went wrong:
  • I cant get around big bands A train as beowulf
  • Filia probably managed to outpace me
  • Couldnt react fast enough against peacock's warp crossups
  • Didnt do any grabs into combos properly
i probably need some advice on both fortunes too.

this is all i got to say for now
except the fact i was listening to this music since my entire team were using palettes from the metal gear franchise, and i screwed up robo fortunes self destruct audio indicator

You have 5 problems:
-You immediately discard beowulf's chair the first chance possible with whiffing :D::HK: in the air. Beowulf's chair is his main reversal tool and helps prevent dying from unnecessary chip, especially in the peacock/robofortune matchup. If you're going to discard it, at least do it with chair toss, which can be used offensively and defensively.
-You have problems hit confirming into combos after getting the hit with a jab or whatever
-You tag out characters without regard for safety. Instead, try to dhc to swap out bleeding characters. Learning combos into tag also helps.
-You didn't punish moves that left the opponent wide open on whiff/block. A-train, airball....
-In the matchup against big band, you should have realized that the big band was doing only A-train, and should have not ever jumped. Instead you should stay on the ground, wait for it and punish; throw out chairless s.hp; call robo beam assist more and wulf blitzer during the assist to get in.

i think i went overboard, this time its 14 matches on one video its the weekend!, just tell me if i need to put specific matches in or different kinds of posts!
Oh, its also organized, im sure you can figure it out.

Please learn a combo. The #1 glaring problem you have is that you don't do any damage when you get a hit. Instead it's a random hit that you don't confirm into a combo.
The opponent has nothing to fear since you don't do any damage and you don't spend your meter.

again, reiterating Meow-Professor's advice to check out the BnB Compendium and learning your character's combos.
