Whenever a Ninty Direct gets announced, there's usually ramblings about it on other Nintendo-related threads, but that's about it. I thought it'd be a grand ol' idea to make a thread dedicated to Directs in general. And would ya' lookit that, we got one ready to go for tomorrow, April 1st. Let's discuss friends, ladies, gentlemen, and Ruin.
 
These things remind me a lot of those old VHS promo tapes you'd get in the mail from Nintendo Power, only more practical I guess. I'm just curious how long they'll keep them going once they start this shift to mobile that they've been talking about.

As long as they have a lot of projects to show off they'll remain interesting, but if/when they hit a slump, hopefully they won't feel pressured to turn them into long commercials for Amiibo and Pokemon products. It'd be like during the N64 era where almost every promo just had to be for the next Rare release.
 
I'm surprised I never made a thread like this, especially since I constantly go through the trouble of reviving my E3 and other old ass annual event threads.
 
Well here is today's Nintendo Direct
Haven't watched the whole thing but here are my thoughts on what I have seen.
  • Lucas is back!! Now to get Snake voted back into the game
  • What did they do to SMT x FE? This is Persona and there is a difference.
  • New Fatal Frame is always nice.
I also have reason to believe that Shin Megami Tensei: if... is coming to 3DS but I haven't been able to confirm that rumor.
 
SMT x FE looks like complete garbage and I couldn't be happier
 
They ruined SMT x FE, cool.
Lucas is back, cool.
Lots of amiibo news, cool.
Fire Emblem 14 tho.

Even more so than Devil Survivor and Persona.
I keep seeing people in the youtube comments trying to defend the clearly Persona aesthetics in a game that was initially advertised with only characters from the "mainline" SMT games. The most common justification is that up until Golden, all the Persona games have used Shin Megami Tensei in the title so that makes it fair game.

I guess they don't realize that Persona is very different thematically and gameplay-wise from the mainline games and they just want their high school simulation.

Today was april fools day and I got played by Nintendo.
 
You are aware there was Devil Survivor which was also dangeorusly anime, right?
That was also SMT.
And Devil Survivor 2 was so fucking anime it actually got an anime.

Yeah I remember those games. I didn't care because they were a spinoff. They can do their own thing and I can ignore it if I don't like it. (Which I did inhuman anatomy aside)

I love P3 but ever since P4 Atlus just started making every new Persona game P4 with a new gimmick. (The fighting games are cool though).

SMT IV was ok but it got me thinking that Atlus has lost it's teeth since the transition into the last console generation. I like the dark themes and motifs of the older SMT games and it's all but lost now.

But all that aside at least Lucas is getting back into the game. I mained Ness in Melee and Brawl but the little guy grew on me.
 
So while I'm questioning the SMT and FE elements of SMT x FE - and hey, maybe this is just some huge bait-and-switch and we'll see that good stuff later - I'm excited for

FATAL FRAME!

Don't even care if I'm a big wuss, I'll buy it.
