Have you guys heard about Rapelay? I'm afraid I can't link a video because it's practically a rape simulator.
There is also battlerape, a fighting game that has clothes come off as you take damage.
 
Illusion games made a pretty horrible impression in the west.

I think that's less of a "those crazy japanese people" game and more of an "oh god why are the people who made this not in jail" sort of game.

Don't even get me fucking started on the Japanese. A dumb-shit airman from my old barracks decided it'd be cool to show me a game called Battle Slave Fantasia. Do NOT do a search for that game unless you feel like losing a bit of your hope in mankind.

I feel like it would be the greatest HD remake of all time if they could somehow do it justice. It provides a deep send of dread, the same kind that you get when you see a glitched game do weird, freaky stuff. Those primitive graphics almost make you feel like it is a dream, and you don't really have much control over what happens.

I was gonna say HD remake but I felt like I'd get slammed on for saying that.

I think it could work too. Especially given the medium for things now.
Too risky for a physical release?

A lot of it was procedural, and as things went on, it embraced glitched textures and fucked up polygon models as part pf the game. Due to it's role as a dream simulator, it worked wonderfully to convey the sensation of degrading, recurring dreams.

But, I mean, it's always been a cult thing. You'd never get anybody to devote the necessary time to remaking something like this with modern graphics. It wouldn't sell enough to make it worth the effort. If Horseman ever does it, I'll gladly pay him for it, but I regard completion of such a project highly unlikely.

It has a much bigger audience now than it ever did. An indie dev making something like LSD could make plenty of money off of it. Games like Dear Esther, Gone Home, The Stanley Parable, etc... They aren't the same thing but they're kind of in the same zone. If they can do so phenomenally well, then an LSD remake or successor definitely has a niche in the industry. Obviously not enough for a AAA budget, but enough to do pretty well with a lower one. And honestly it's not like you really need that massive of a budget for this sort of game, and there's really never going to be enough people that like something so weird to give it such a big budget.

Hey hey hey. As someone who has a sadism fetish I think there is a difference between fantasy and real life. I certainly didn't choose to have extreme sadism as my secondary fetish and don't believe it applies outside of fantasy. I mean I never seen these games, but I've been turned on by pretty much the "worst of the worst" already.

EDIT: Ok, looked up Battle Slave Fantasia. God that looks like it sucks. The animation, the movement, ugh, did they even try and make the game look normal? Or just, I don't know? Not even the content so much as how lame it looks. Sort of like something you play as a joke just by how lame it is. Pretend I never saw that.

Yume Nikki is a very unique game.
It's got so so so so many intrepretations, and so many more spin-offs/spiriual successors.
You can get so much from each.
There's pretty much an RPer for each YN game on tumblr too.
They do their job and they do it /well/
