PC Beta Beta Replay Bugs Thread

Okay @Mike_Z
I have just played 50 matches with @Daemyx, spent a while watching every single one of them on replay theater, and got a flawless 50/50 working replays.

Whatever the hell was happening before, looks like it's gone. :)

You can't prove a negative, though. All we know is that it didn't happen this time, rather than that it is actually fixed. :^P Since I never got to figure out the bug (yet) we don't know it's gone.
I'm happy, though!

Hosted a Betawulf side tournament last weekend at Frosty Faustings on my PC. Out of 32 recordings, 4 of them desynced. These were played on the 1/14/2015 update and were digitally recorded prior to the 1/27 and 1/28 updates. Not sure what can be done at this point since the beta version changed. Let me know if you want me to upload the replay files anyway.

Oh noooooooooooooooo....
and were digitally recorded
WAIT, DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVE A DIGITAL RECORDING OF THE MATCH AT THE TIME (working correctly) AS WELL AS THE REPLAY? OMG YES PLEASE POST THEM I can roll back and look at the difference that would be amazing!

Q since this was offline: Were people using hold-tag-to-switch-order? I know that replays totally don't track that and will start the team in the wrong order...

They weren't recorded there. He's probably referring to replay recording when he says that.

I don't think so. At least for me vs @Dhoppler which was one of the ones that got desynched, neither of us changed our team order before the match.

Oohhhh god sorry. Duckator's right, the matches weren't recorded there. What I was referring to was the fact that I processed the replays for Youtube uploading prior to the 1/27 update, and I mentioned it to make it clear that the desyncs were not due to the beta changing versions.

As far as I remember nobody used hold-tag-to-switch-order. @FuLLBLeeD ? @Elda Taluda ?

that's a negative. I kept my team order.

Edit: I lied. I switched to put Peacock on point in my match. I forgot that I didn't pick my team in the right order.

My memory may be faulty because I was hungry and had to drive 40 minutes to get safe food right afterwards.

Just played a bunch of games with my brother, as far as I can tell, all the replays are desynched. long pauses at round start and random pauses mid-match*.
recorded a quick match live to show the difference.
replay files

*could just be inputs synching up weird.

also I have 774 replays, oops

Roadroller seems to cause a desynch when it happens in a replay, but if you pause before it hits, while the shadow is increasing, the item drop changes and makes the match function normally.
Mhh if "randomness" isn't part of replays, that may explain my desync..

I just checked a Replay of mine, where I do a random Argus vs Bella; Everything up to that point works fine.
In the game, Bella got hit, in the Replay, she reflected it (and then everything went to shit afterwards).

Perhaps the different shot distribution in the Replay allowed a messy Reflect input to still come out..

Random SHOULDDDDDDDDDDDD be part of replays, I save all the relevant info. Agh.

So uh.
Apparently if you watch a replay, then go into an online match that is SUPPOSED to have downs, it won't have any downs and will just be a 1/1. I'm unsure if this was reported before, but it happened last night to me during @gllt 's Kumite. However, for him and @Dreamepitaph it looked like it disconnected after the first round.

Unsure what causes this, other than looking at a replay, but I figured it should be reported (even if it hasn't been yet.)

@Mike_Z

Replays started getting freaky since the new update (EDIT: or at least, I started experiencing this problem after them anyway). I wish I could have been able to record my matches while playing as well as having the replay videos on me but my laptop's not good enough to play while recording the screen at the same time.

Eg: In one replay I was supposed to get Filia Gregor to get a wall bounce and continue the combo, in the replay there's no wall bounce and the rest of the inputs go to shit. Also in a set I played vs a Peacock (Age, to be precise) sometimes the match gets all random, most often after an Argus.

About to get ready to leave for university but I can post videos of the replays where the problem happens when I get back, although I imagine it wouldn't be much help if you only had the replays and not have been able to compare them to the actual match.

Sounds like random values for things like Argus' second phase or item drop might be regenerated every time a replay is played ? Cause iirc replays only save inputs...

They save random values but apparently don't properly apply them, it's known.
I don't have time to fix anything about them yet though...and yeah I know they leave the match conditions set, that hella sucks, sorry.

In my replays people tend to start grabbing randomly at thin air right before the desync occurs and everything crashes. It's always a grab. Maybe it's because me and my friends are a little grab-happy, but this seems to be occuring very consistently.

These matches are from the patch before today's one (shut up I'm bad at remembering patch dates.) Moves that seem to trigger desynch seem to include Headrone moves, any iteration of Danger, and A-Train (though these are probably just some weird coincidence.)

Are these from before I said "hopefully fixed randomness"? If so, have you had desyncs after that?

Yeah. Desyncs have been slowing down considerably since the update, but matches with ping above 100 still tend to desync very easily.

EDIT: Alright, patch day! All new matches record 100% a-okay with no desyncs. I assume all my older replays are beyond saving, though? None of them show any changes.

EDIT OF THE EDIT: Interesting behaviour. Some replays can "re-sync" themselves back into their intended course of action. I have no goddamn clue what causes this, but video coming soon-ish.

Alright, so I played MMDS today and I've got a desynced match which I'm pretty sure it has to do with killing assists at the end of a super [Dynamo specifically here] and playback not compensating for slow down or something similar. I'm uploading the video atm gimme a few minutes. Anything besides the video (and the replay when I go looking for it) that you could use Mike?

[e] Here's the video and here's a link that jumps straight to the desync.

Whoops, didn't actually tag @Mike_Z in this post.

Are training dummies supposed to not tech throws if you set the "Force Counter Hit" to Yes?
Also, Fortune's head causes a yellow burst even if it wasn't hit by the burst in question, was it intentional?

Sorry, wasn't sure where else to post this...

EDIT: Fortune question was answered, sorry again

This is the thread for beta replay bugs, so you posted this in the entirely wrong place.

Try here or here.

Skullgirls replays work by doing nothing but playing back the buttons and inputs that were pressed by both players.

If suddenly Mike changes someone's launcher so that it knocks the opponent down, then all the buttons that come after the launcher would be whiffing and the entire replay would desync.

If that was from an older version then that would cause desyncs.
Even damage adjustments making a character die earlier than they did in the previous version will ruin all of it.

If it was the most recent version then ignore all this.

Most of the time if I run the replay again enough times it won't desync.
If you can pin point the exact moment it desyncs and stops making sense that could be really helpful information.
