Anime/Manga General Discussion

Is anyone here reading The Promised Neverland? It started in Jump a few months ago and since then it's gained some nice popularity. Popularity that I think it deserves, it's really damn good right now. If you like mindgames, and stuff like Death Note, I highly recommend you pick it up.

After like 8~ years Code Geass getting another mainline anime season + trilogy of movies to retell R1/R2. Naturally they confirmed a certain character being alive which set off a shit storm.

Is it just me or are there an unusually large number of remakes/retellings of generally-well-recieved titles being announced recently? I think I've heard of about half a dozen in as many months.

if it ain't Shirley, then I don't care.

I think Your Name is going to be playing in a limited theatrical run in my state.

Toying with the idea of going. I don't wanna drive all the way to Los Angeles, but it would be fun going to see an (apparently very good) anime movie in theaters.

early contender for best anime of 2017
Man I just started watching this the other day. Incredibly cute and pure. And also very gay.

I approve.

Also, has anyone been paying atention to the Pokemon anime? Because despite the overall tone shift, there's a lot of neat stuff going on. Probably the best parts is that Team Rocket is entertaining to watch again since they have a pokemon that is actively trying to kill Pikachu at every opprotunity and....every scene the Bewear is in.

Oh, and Team Rocket actually beat Ash fair and square in a pokemon battle for once.

And for anyone worried about it being just moe humor, trust me, Dragon Maid knows how to be funny and entertaining in so many ways.

Some episodes you might get an amazingly animated fight scene:

Others: you'll get just a hilarious take on the overpowered versus the weak.

So, I had recently found out that Crunchyroll had released their dub of Gintama not too long ago, and so I watched a couple episodes. And, it's actually good. Really good.

All this time, I never thought it would happen. It has. Gintama actually has a dub. And it's good.

So I'm about to bite a fucking lead-filled bullet and sit down and watch One Piece from the beginning
Any tips?

If you can make it past the Alabasta Arc, you can make it through any arc afterwards. I started recently myself, last week, due to boredom.

Currently on episode 144 as of right now.

hot tip
watch the anime through alabasta or skypeia and then just read the manga

I was gonna go til Marineford, then take a break from it.

I'd argue you can straight up skip Skypeia and watch/read it at a later time. It's a pace-killer and not very interesting.

skypeia has a ton of shit introduced in it that foreshadows later stuff
plus it's all full of adventure and shit and Enel is ya boi

don't listen to beat, he's a loser

Skypeia is dumb and Enel is dumb and you're a big poopie buttfuck meanie.

The only thing that matters is when Robin finds the poneglyph

But I don't want to ruin the beat. I like the beat.

I'd recommend jumping into Gintama. It's always a good time to jump into Gintama.

Here's a tip from when I was bingewatching Naruto Shippuden.
Learn what episodes are filler, skip the absolute shit out of them, there are some lols to be had but for the love of God in the interest of time skip them, they raise plotholes (In a season 1 filler episode, Zoro mentions he can cut steel chains holding the ship, in Alabaster he proceeds to have major trouble with an enemy who can turn into steel...whoops)
I can't vouch for the anime's quality after CP9, I barely watched the dub of Thriller Bark, but yeah, manga's still good fun, but I know nothing about the anime's quality after that.

Also, Skypeia is great, has one of the best villains in the series, and one of the best villains in fiction, don't skip it.

I miss having that kind of free time :(

No just wanted to watch it until a certain point because of UNS 2

Fair enough. The Storm games ARE great fun.

I'm dead serious though, you guys should also watch Gintama.

I don't have as much free time as most people think.

Coming from someone who read Jojo's starting back in 2007 I do not mind how memy it's gotten
now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the memes, but saying you like JoJo and then refusing to watch another series "because memes" is not just pot calling the kettle black.
it's more like "massive forest fire calling a lit matchstick a little too hot"

like, I can guarantee there's more sub-entries of JoJo on KYM than Gintama.

So..Eureka Seven ost guys still got the bangers in the new movie?

Cuz AO was AAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSS.

But the song "nintey three" from the original's ost was the heat.

Get it by your own hands, tiger track, I could go on.

Also gundams surfing in the air on waves made from an alien presence is right up there with Bayonetta.

I have long lost count to how many reps of squats I have done to this song.
