PUNCH PLANET - VERSION 0.5.2

Might be a little nitpicky, but CIDs knife super feels like it lacks some punch. The wind up is good, but the slow walk forward lacks energy. If there was more movement to it, like if she moved it back and forth in a stabbing motion aggressively, I think it would look more exciting. Obviously if it's too much of a hassle to change, don't worry about it.

Yeah we definitely changing that super soon
 
Some new Cid footage

New things in this video:
- Ex.KnifeRush wall bounce is much higher (this move no longer has invincibility)
- KnifeWheels (overhead special) are DTC-able (frame data has been adjusted and no longer combo-able without spending meter)
- St.HP (charged) wall bounce
- St.LK -> St.MP target combo reset

Planet is actually named Planet-K0 (K-Zero) ;)

Yeah normally her knife normals have a tap version and a hold version that has some stronger properties:

In general they all do more hitstun / blockstun
St.MP: Becomes an overhead
Cr.MP: OTGs opponents in a hard knockdown state
St.HP: Wall Bounces airborne opponents
Cr.HP: Lower juggle value
Jp.MP: Much more active
Jp.HP: Causes hard knockdown on airborne opponents

The custom super she has just makes the charged version always come out, so if you tap the button you'll get the charged version instantly (charged versions are anywhere from 10 - 14f slower normally).

Or Guilty Gear supers.

I actually like the first type of Guilty Gear super, the hcb-f (or 632146, if you will). The second type is just Street Fighter though. *shrug*

it's double motion, single button. where as ex moves are single motion double button.

and double tapping that button will cause a D.T.C.

All supers right now are QCFx2 P/K, but the input is quite lenient

That's the real UI? If so that's incredible progress!

Random thoughts i've been sitting on:

  • I saw it said somewhere on the last few pages (can't find it now) that The Sugar Daddy stage was kinda samey compared to Luna Station, and that was something you were looking into. For inspiration I would definitely look at a "used future" sort of aesthetic for the Sugar Daddy, in particular The Bebop from Cowboy Bebop. Nothing too grimy (Cid would be pissed if they let her ship get dirty), but a bit rusty and full of various personal objects like old furniture, various military banners and the flags of unknown/alien nations hanging up high, or weapons left leaning around or on racks. The empty starport that dominates the background is ripe with possibility, musty couches and beach chairs facing the glass, maybe a television (or future equivalent) out there, weight lifting equipment, training dummies, anything. You could make it look really lived and go crazy with the details!
  • Tyara's like is "Collecting Heads". Dog's like is "$$$". If they are both operating on Planet KO, does that mean they both like the same thing? Hmm.
  • Tyara's weapon of choice is "Anything Sharp". Quite nebulous, but full of possibilities. I wonder if she's hiding anything (sharp..?) in those gold vambraces and anklets... Even if she is, just what she's hiding is entirely dependent on the level of technology the natives of Planet KO have access to. Either way i'm excited for her.
  • I love her pastel hair and skin color. I hope we see more bright showy color combinations in some other designs, or even on the surface of Planet KO itself... The saccharine colors/extremely dangerous planet juxtaposition is just too delicious to ignore...

Well Dog actually comes into the story before Roy travels to Punch Planet, so most likely not ;)

Yep there will definitely be some vibrant locales on Punch Planet.
 
hey a silly idea but how hard would it be to make the character portraits flash red when they go into Low Health. At the point where the announcer says "Don't Give Up Yet."

It would be a quick easy way for players to tell "Oh shoot i'm at 1/4th health it's crunch time!" with out having to take their eyes off of the action and stare at the health bar. That they can see the flashing out of the corner of their eye.

Also for the Sugar Daddy stage, in the cargo hold area with the crates, do you think heavy silhouetted crew members would work? Like they're moving around and all but they're mostly black with some of the lighting hitting them?

I'd say why not but it still looks weird without any furniture or objects for them to be interacting with, but of course they could be on some kind of space smoke break. They don't really have to be silhouettes either, I'm sure the artist could come up with some awesome designs for Cid's crewmembers. I still love the fact that you always like to bring your ideas/suggestions to life like that.

hmmm yeah. The only reason why i suggested them to be silhouetted was to cut down on space while still matching with the style they're going for.

But hey, if the artist wants to show off with Cid's full Crew that would be cool too. Gotta have atleast one guy in there with a robotic arm. Cause Robo Arms are sweet.

Ooh, alt costumes! Niiiice! How's GDC treating you guys so far?

The event went well, had a lot of random players who had mostly casual fighting game experience play and enjoyed it quite a bit. DTC input is good for people who don't know what they're doing cuz they still get cool stuff sometimes ;)

I like how you're making the music a bit more dynamic with in the matches. Just needs some tuning on the fading in/out and it should be pretty good.
