When Valentine can fullscreen continue a combo after i've hit my combo breaker I'd definitely say there are some balancing issues

I'm not familiar with Valentine's combo potential, so fullscreen continue with... what? Flatliner? That'd be spending meter, and Valentine is an all-out offense character anyway. She's a really damn good point character.

Did you actually knock her back with the burst, or did she Savage Bypass you in the air, dodge the burst, and then hit you again? That's called a burst bait. I see that online all the time when I fight a half-decent Valentine, it's just part of their combo and you've gotta not press buttons, wait it out and burst later.

The only fullscreen burst val would have is from a projectile which is not a true burst bait so I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe a 5HK x3 burst bait? and even then you can just NOT burst and wait for a non baitable moment. You got baited it's how this game works there are no combo breakers only a chance to burst if you think it'll hit them.

Being specific usually helps answer questions clearly. Val is perfectly balanced if you do not think so, play her yourself.

I'd need to check whatever you said about the combos to be sure you're not trolling me. But to answer question, the "tier gap" (difference between the character most people considers the best and the one considered the worst) is significantly smaller than most fighting games out there.

Think this way: i'll give some examples of characters for you to compare and in the end, try to do the same exercise with Skullgirls and see if you find a similarly blatant difference in potential. And being a joke character isn't an excuse. Fukua is a joke character and it's damn viable in almost any team.

In vanilla SF4 we had Sagat vs Dan
In SF4 Arcade Edition we had Yun vs Dee Jay
In UMvC3 we had the entire cast, the announcer and the NPCs on the background vs poor Hsien-ko (Kidding. Vergil vs hsien-ko)
In MvC 2 we had Sentinel vs Servbot or Amingo
In SF5 until EVO, we had Nash vs FANG

Marvel is the worst offender on this problem IMO.

Compare the damage, bars spent, number of inputs and time of each combo in this video

To the tournament standard Vergil

You get the idea.

Even in team based games, the characters themselves must hold their own weight somehow. In skullgirls the entire roster has a fairly good ammount of tools and the damage dealt is never obscenely low compared to the effort in the BnB. On the flipside, no one has an insanely abusable technique (no infinites because of IPS, burst baits are mind games and there's no 100% sure way to reset an opponent every time, no ridiculous bug that changes everything in the competitive scene, etc.)

With that, every character is viable, most teams could give you a good result and you don't need to abandon a character you like to get a "cheap" team that can do a 100% combo with little effort.

Hope that answers your question

I've knocked her back using my burst and she comes back for my ass with a heavy bypass. I know it wasn't a burst bait because I hardly played online just me and my bro back when squigly was the only additional character out. Maybe fullscreen was a bit excessive in this scenario. but its damn near there especially with big band as an assist.

Block it and you get to punish her unless she spends one bar on scalpels, which is still punishable in many situations.

Oh, well that's not a combo. That can be blocked, and then when she's on the other side you just block the opposite direction. I don't know if she can even go for a grab there, but if she can then grab tech. If it's the command grab, jump.
