Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax

I'm sorry. I have no clue of anything as I recently drowned myself in bleach to remove the disinfectant of something that had infected my brain.
you'd need a lot more bleach to get rid of the stain of Sword Art Online

And now I'm reminded why I stopped visiting these forums so often.

To quote something that was told to me in the advent of MVC3's release:

"Fun is what you call a game when you can't actually think of anything good about it."

That is one of the most elitist things I have ever heard in my life.

whoops
my fingers, they slipped
maybe it was on all that bleach

That is one of the most elitist things I have ever heard in my life.

What's elitist about asking for some real critical analysis when recommending something?

Nothing is inherently good or bad in video games, it's all just a matter of different things appealing to different tastes. So the real question, in any case of analyzing gameplay, is what does the game appeal to?

For example, Fire Emblem games typically have less long term strategy and customization options then other srpg's, and more emphasis on moment to moment tactics and fast paced, streamlined action. Dark Souls is more commitment and punish oriented then a Platinum hack and slash due to the stamina system, slower player attacks, and lack of true animation cancelling. Vampire Saviour is more offense oriented then other fighters due to the huge amount of frame advantage on many attacks, etc. etc. etc.

Just saying "it's fun" is super non-descriptive and not helpful to anyone. If you're going to recommend a game to someone, you should at least be able to describe what it does. Not like anyone is asking for an essay or anything. Just saying it has a smart rushdown game or something because blah blah would be enough.

I think if you can describe WHY you find it fun that should be enough.
like, fun is subjective but even subjective things can be explained.
also, a better descriptive for a hack and slash would be a musou game, not a Platinum game.

^^^Yeah, that's what I mean. Why is the all important question. I can't disagree with anyone liking or not liking something, but I can tell if I find the same concepts appealing or not.

Besides, imo the most fun part of discussing games is debating what was the good design choices and what weren't. I've written near-essay-length stuff on games like Fates going over what was great and the issues I had. I want to be super clear and it's fun seeing how others react to that.

But yeh saying a game is fun is ok, it just doesn't convey anything.

The game is fun because it's horribly easy to pick up and play. Pick whoever the shit you want and you'll have their ins and outs down in half an hour.

The problem is that the game feels horribly derivative. Usually you will take months, maybe years to maximize the optimal nature of your character in any fighting game.

Playing Dengeki you'll hit that wall in a week, tops. Then matches will become auto piloted even faster. It's just hard to describe but the game's easy nature to just jump in and get going also contributes to its downfall. The recent release of characters do well to add variety and disperse the homogenized skeleton much of the game revolves around.

There's a few glaring annoyances though, but that's for another time.

Interesting. Kind of reminds me of Marvel Super Heroes: Fun and fast but lacking depth beyond the basic rock/paper/scissors spacing game. I guess it might be an entertaining game to pick up once in a while (sort of as a "party game") but best not stuck with for too long.

I have so many Dengeki Bunko novels that I need to read.

Man, having 3 jobs and college is no picnic.

I enjoy it, though.

Remember when we had hope and thought that the update was going to be released in the west?

Man, that was fun.

does this game have an up to date tier list? Is Shizuo still ass?

I thought that the bump was an announcement that the game was gonna get localized.

FUCK.
