USA [May 26th-28th] Combo Breaker 2017 (Chicago, IL)

wait...I was totally playing Revelator the other day with just a PS3 stick plugged in and the Dualshock turned off completely and it worked fine. Do you need a pad synced at all times?

its funny you mention that now cause i actually tried it last night cause i was curious, i launched rev then immediately turned off the ds4, and my ps3-compatible pad was able to do everything including dismiss the legacy controller notification. obviously blazblue has a weird implementation of the driver but GG seems to use it properly?

@thehadou

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Guilty Gear has it implemented the exact same as Skullgirls

I have not been able to get my ps3 stick to work on ps4 guilty except for the character select screen and playing a match.

Tried it on three different ps4's over the course of a few weeks at locals and it doesn't seem to matter if there is a ps4 something plugged in or not

Comfort level, noise level, people and movement constantly in your peripheral vision, another human next to you playing. Your first tournament you'll experience aspects of play & environment that are likely very foreign and they will either make you play worse (tournament nerves) or push you into "the zone" and cause you to play to peak ability.

...

What about game sounds? There have been a few tourney videos that I've seen where the players don't have headphones. I'm used to relying on the game sounds for my combos and such, so I'd like to know if I have to practice without them.

Also, my flight is booked(:D)! I'm leaving early Wednesday morning because the tickets were significantly cheaper than if I flew out on Thursday. I know I asked this before, but when does the room sharing thread go up? I possibly could have bought myself a room at $100/night but I'll definitely need to share one since those are all sold out.

I'll check again on my end and ask the core Xrd team. My understanding is that a DS4 to activate a legacy controller is necessary in Xrd. If thats not the case we'll update the rule set.

As I recall from last year, the main stage setup had headphones, but the pool setups did not. So if you're confident that you'll breeze through pools and only top 16 will pose a challenge, playing with game sound is probably fine. If not you may want to practice playing with all the game sounds off.

Last day for early-bird pre-reg. Save some cash and do it now!

It's fine, sometimes you forget things as you age

I'll be there. Looking to die from drinking.
shouldn't be too hard. sit next to sharpie, match her drink for drink.

Who cares if your ears bleed if you're planning to die anyway?

So hey.

Can I add money to the prize pot?

Does SG even have a pot bonus at the moment?

I'm never going to understand this community's obsession with wanting to die

omw to die

aight level with me skullheart, never been to combobreaker. What am I in for?

if you're of age, there'll be a lot of drinkin'. A local arcade sends along some arcade machines, so there's lots of casual fun besides the games that're set for tourney play. Assuming things haven't changed, the hall will be open 24/7, so there's plenty of time for casual play for whatever games you like. There'll be some vendors there, so if you need any kind of controller merch or work done, you can get it. There'll be artists too. So, if you have an urge to spend a lot of money, you'll be able to.

Chances are high that we'll spend a chunk of time fucking around with board games and whatnot too. Pro-tip for when playing Coup with FuLLBLee D: always tax turn 1.

If you ever need help with anything just look for someone on the staff. We'll be the loudest, drunkest people in the venue.

Anyone gonna stay from Wed-Mon? Looking to do the same stay in Chicago as I have the past two years

@thehadou If we chose the shipped badge option, how soon can we expect it before the actual event? I'm just wondering because a lot of us like to arrive early- and I would hate to miss my badge arriving because I decided to come earlier in the week instead of thursday.

They'll ship 1st week of May. So unless you're planning on living in Illinois for a couple weeks you should be alright. If you are planning to live in Illinois for a couple weeks though the custom badges do have a pick-up-at-the-event option. All the same custom fanciness but less of the line skipping opportunities.

Awesome. Thank you!

Sup guys, unfortunately I've got some bad shit going on. After almost 8 years, I was let go of my job and I dunno if I can handle all the trip expenses. Even though someone in the community was willing to help with the plane ticket, I don't think I can handle that now.

Hello! Anyone got space in their room? Being a baddie I completely overlooked that I don't have a room this year, and would like to resolve that ASAP! Thank you.

so wing, clawsome, cadenza, and my brother are all looking for rooms. why don't ya'll just book one together?
