Fire Emblem

In-map supports was a thing in the older games. It's not really an issue.

Definitely agreed about Fats Vs Awakening. Awakening has the better plot/characters (not saying a ton, though there are a few nice moments scattered throughout, could have been a lot better with more polish to the script/pacing/plot/etc but I still consider it a rough guilty pleasure), but Fates is probably one of the better games in the franchise gameplay wise. Too bad the story is a total clusterfuck and completely intolerable to me.

I come in to talk about Fire Emblem. Hope I don't get hit with an axe.

So, Echoes has in-map supports. Oh boy. Like that won't be inconvenient at the worst time. I dig the dungeon crawling though. Could be a load of fun.

*Looks around* And since it's my first time, better clear the air. Only have played Awakening and Fates. I've been meaning to play the older games but I've been so busy...

And no matter what anyone tells you... Fates has better mechanics than Awakening, but the story and 90% of the characters are total CRAAAAAAAAAP.
In combat supports are ass.

I agree.

I know in-map won't be bad, but... I just know that there will be a time I think "No enemies, we're safe. Support!" And then suddenly an ambush will happen, new enemies spawning and killing those two.

Nothing a reset can't fix, but still annoying.

It's not so much as an issue as it is an inconvenience. For someone who likes optimal teamwork, I prefer being able to get my units to work together, meaning their supports have to go up. The problem is, I also prefer to put my units in the most optimal positions, meaning supports aren't likely to happen because I'm so focused on making sure my units are in the best places for exp and making sure they don't die.

So yeah, while I'm not upset that they went back to the classic style, but I don't necessarily like that it did.

Also, I partially put blame on Fates bad story on the changes in localization.

I think it's more the "hire a mangaka to pen the script and then throw out 90% of his work at the last possible moment" thing.

Those kind of sudden 180's are a recipe for disaster.

Also not helping is the fact the mangaka never played Fire Emblem before.

Not the best plan.

That's really irrelevant, IMO.

You don't really need to play the other games when the story is self contained, and the series is, for the most part, an episodic series.

I'd agree if he was writing something like Yakuza or whatever. But FE was a decent pick, all things considered.

Anyway. Can we just get back to the best character in the series, Camilla?

I came here with high hopes for you all! I thought you all would be great! But what's with all your spelling mistakes? You all can't spell best waifu for laifu Cordelia.

Camilla's hot, but I still think she's more yandere than Tharja, and that scares me.

I mean, a yandere can be pretty hot. All you gotta do is be careful.

But real talk, my favorite Fire Emblem girls are probably Lyn or Serra.

Public service announcement.

Echoes is out in Japan.

Beware of spoilers.

Like the one I'm doing now. Please, if you do not wanna know, don't be an idiot like me and read it.

So, Echoes apparently is adding an origin story for Grima. You know, the guy from Awakening who had nothing to Gaiden? It's... Kinda weird to think they're now trying to tie that in.

i mean they take place in the same world
valentia's just a hop and a skip across the ocean from Akaneia/Ylisse

Wait, it's actually connected to Awakening?
Fuck I might have to skip it altogether

I mean, by that logic, you'll have to skip every Fire Emblem game that includes Marth or his descendants.
or, y'know, every game that includes the Fire Emblem as a thing in-story.

it's just lore shit, really
explains why what's-his-butt is a butt and why Alm and Marth have separate identical falchion

Kinda liked
Grima
being completely unexplained and preferred the fan guess that
he's an amalgamation of all the sealed earth dragons, since that was a nice way to bring the sins of the past in.

What it actually is is nothing like this.

I do! Really liking it so far

That's weird to see a Fire Emblem protag with a normal hair color (well i guess it was Leif's case but)
So those blond guys are siblings right? They look like they are.

Also of course Marth is here

So, apparently, they confirmed that we're mostly getting Fates, Shadow Dragon, and Awakening characters in this game.

The reason is to avoid "too many sword users."

But, what about Blazing Sword?
What about our lord and savior, Hector?

So has anybody here bought Echoes?
It's pretty good. I'm doing my first permadeath run ever and I gotta say fuck Python

You guys realize they have to save some characters for DLC right?
Hector can hang in the DLC Corner along with other characters that took way too long to get into a Warriors game
Skull Kid needs that company

they also did say "mostly" from those three games
and considering "notable axe users" in fire emblem can be counted on one hand
Hector's ass is probably the safest bet of any blazing sword character

I just want Hector the most. He's such a great tragic character in both blazing and bunding.

Dude picks up an axe knowing it will doom him to a painful death because his best friend needs him. How can anyone hate Hector?

the eventual Bungling Blade remake better update Hector's death to be the full-on Kittan-esque sacrifice it was meant to be

I'm personally finding Echoes to be really goddamn easy. Skills like Excalibur and Invoke are kinda borked.
