The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

I really, really hope customs are repurposed for Echoes, I remember thinking of the possibility before. Sadly, knowing how Smash rolls I somehow doubt it, I'm betting they need to have the exact same movesets to qualify as Echo.

I still think Dark Pit was robbed of a real moveset.

First off, Rude, I loved customs and was a big advocate of them being tourney legal because i made the game much more interesting to have several variants of familiar fighters with different styles. Secondly, yes, customs are back, as Mii Brawler uses way too many special moves for one character, including his old flip, his diving headbutt, 2 up B attacks, and a new counter. I heavily doubt Mii fighters will be the only one with a custom set.
 
i can see them trimming customs down to only mii fighters just for the sake of keeping things simple in the long run
as good as some customs were (I would die for Ganon's blue kick), a lot of them just frankly weren't very good or interesting

secondly, that Giygas echo would be THE coolest thing in the game, especially with Earthbound Giygas being the up-smash. That's genius

I have a feeling they're doing exactly the opposite because Ganon isn't considered an echo fighter in this game.
 
because he's not one
echoes are the characters that might as well just be an alt costume with how similar they are
even Melee Ganon and Pichu had enough differences to not be a complete copypaste
 
considering Doc has enough differences in Ultimate to not be considered an Echo, it's pretty obvious that it doesn't just mean Clone

it's SF2 Ken, not Alpha and beyond Ken
 
I'm pretty sure Jeanne will be one for Bayonetta.

Well, they have a Bass and ProtoMan models in the game now (see the final smash). Could happen

i think the official acknowledgement that they aren't "real" additions has softened the blow a bit

in addition to the fact that we're not getting -as- many real new characters in Ultimate probably means that people are looking to Echoes for quick and dirty reps

I'm just glad that we'll never get a new FE character again and it'll just be echo characters from here out
because lol if theyre ever gonna add an Axe or lance character

I mean I'd be down with echoes if we do also get things like codecs, like Dr.Mario for example (I know he's not an echo anymore but he's close enough so let me have this)

But that being said I'd prefer that we get like 2 or 3 new characters over getting 10 preexisting characters with different voices, animations, and stats.
 
I really don't think we're going to see only 5 newcomers in this one. You gotta remember that Smash has averaged at adding around 17 new characters per entry

Not as many additions to sakurai is probably more like 9-10, not including potential DLC additions

Plus with Smash 4, he said to not expect too many newcomers, and instead we got 17 newbies.

Not that anyone really wants to count Corrin but we need to for the sake of numbers
 
OK obviously not really but I imagine that fake leaks and leak speculation is going to be just as bad if not worse than Sm4sh and the Mac/Shulk conspiracies. So be prepared.
 
Has anyone ever believed a Smash leak that wasn't the ESRB one?

Actually giving megaman echo fighters would kind of make sense to me since some of his custom moves were pretty functionally different than normal, not so sure about any other 3rd parties though

Also don't forget that Dark Pit did have some differences, including his own Final Smash and victory theme.
So I think Echo Fighters do get some modicum of niceness to them and not just clone clone.
Like sayy we get Protoman, he doesn't HAVE to reuse Megaman's Final Smash, maybe his Final Smash could be all the secondary playable characters in Megaman History (Zero, Model Z, Megaman Zero Zero, Zero.exe) to do a super attack instead.
 
An ARMS character (most likely Spring Man) is definitely gonna be a newcomer since the game sold very well.
